yes this but also him understanding in that moment how martha felt when he did that for her and why it could have led her to do what she did. its not excusing it but helps to somewhat explain it
For anyone wondering, Donnie’s reaction at his Assaulters is a classical CPTSD Reaction called Fawning, it’s when Trauma Victims react to psychological danger resembling past traumas by being nice and submissive and meek - but it’s an hard to control CPTSD RESPONSE called „Fawning”.
That's definitely what made this so hard to watch for me. I have the same trauma response and it got VERY real. And his constant self destruction....I get it
The end was him realizing that it wasn't his mistake to be empathetic towards martha
He didn't start stalking the barman at the end, that was just either Netflix dramatising things, or Gadd finding himself in a sort of ironic reversal of what started it all.
It was him realizing that he did nothing wrong when he offered her a cup of tea
