Taking the buses in Malta is easy and cheap, at just two euro per ticket (which you can use in any two hour period).

You could have just taken the ferry to Valletta and got the bus number 52 or 56. Next time you are in Malta i recommend the Talijna Weekly bus pass at £21 EURO FOR 7 DAYS and just use Bolt...or local taxis as an emergency option....it's much more fun....and i recommend staying in Bugibba /Qawra....it's cheaper than Sliema and Valletta....and the bus service there from the bus station is fantastic....you can go all over the island ....bus is a great way to see the island and explore....hope that helps anyone x

As a local citizen, I can confirm that it those happen especially if the bus is full and the buses often come late or early. They rarley are on time.
(The only reason I use the bus is because it's free for Citizen with a bus card,)

If I understand correctly, you have to walk 25 min (2-2.5 km?) to a bus station ( in a capital city) and then travel 1 hr by bus to a touristy site 12 km further. Or you have the option to go all by bus in 1h35m ...
That sounds as really bad transit !! No wonder everybody drives (' stand still in traffic').
I wasn't staying in the capital which is why I had to walk! In the capital there are more options :)
@@ClairesFootsteps Yeah, sure. The 'capital' Valetta has officially 6k pop. , but the suburbs like Sliema surrounding the harbour belong to the capital urban area. Wimbledon and Brixton are not part of the 'City of London' , but we all agree it is 'London' , right ?!
On top of that I read that Sliema is the major Commercial and Leisure/tourist district and with 17k/km2 the most dense community on the island . ergo 'City' .
But that underlines more so that the bus transit appears to be bád ..

Malta has the worst bus service I have seen in a rich country. Buses are infrequent, and often late and crowded, if they turn up at all. Sometimes they just drive past. They stop running ridiculously early, mostly 9-10pm. I advise people not to holiday in Malta for this reason.
