    Use a 1/2” pvc pipe down the middle with holes drill at intervals for each level. Put 1/4” irrigation tube through top of pipe. You get better stability & watering in one.

    Mine are stacked 6 lots high and have been 100% stable. They are overflowing with all kinds of herbs right now. Super impressed with them for the $1 price tag!! Even if they only last me a couple of years they will have been well worth it. Punching out all the holes makes it super easy to water as they 'water down' really well that way.

    I just started punching the holes in mine. So the soil doesn't leak out and water stays in longer, I am going to cover the holes with coffee filter or maybe landscape fabric and will mulch the top. Bought pink Owens Corning rebar from Home Depot to go down the center. $5 for a 1/2" x 8' bar. Going to cut in half.

    I've never used them. Because of this video, it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, I'm not doing so well right now. I was so excited in January to get to gardening. But, I'm new to gardening, so when my seeds did not germinate, that failure has really set me back. I haven't tried to germinate any other seeds, and I have plenty! 😢😢

    • @Cerridwyn1st
      @Cerridwyn1st  Год назад +2

      I’ve had trouble getting older seeds to germinate. Some species don’t have a long shelf life. I’ve tried again with other seeds and I was able to get some things to sprout.
      If you have a plant buddy maybe they have a few extra starts to get you going.
      Hugs! Just try not to be too down on yourself and try again.

    • @A-G5518
      @A-G5518 Год назад

      Ive let garden failures hold me back for so many years that I'm seriously regretting it. I'm finally rhis year just diving in head first, armed with as much information on each plant before planting ao i can do my best with it. Don't let it stop you, let it teach you. ❤
      I highly recommend looking into what you're planting along with what your planting zone is to know when is a good time to plant and when isnt. That is one thing that will help. Trying to grow cold weather crop in the middle of summer is a big disappointment as they bolt and go to seed before you can even eat some of it, for one example. Look into how deep they should be planted, should they be soaked beforehand, do they need deep spaces for their roots and thus wouldn't do well in this type of planter, etc.

      I grow strawberries in mine. I have them placed to get more sun during the winter months so I need to pull them back into the shade now. As for herbs I would grow something modest like thyme or marjoram. Mint or even oregano would over grow the containers.
      In the cooler months (I live in Florida) I would grow things like lettuce, spinach, compact varieties of kale in them.
      I would also try some of the more exotic greens like Moluccan spinach, Brazilian spinach, shiso and Okinawan spinach in the summer, just keep in mind that the planters can dry out.
      I saw a post from someone that grew bush beans in these. I tried but it didn’t work out for me. They got too dry too fast. It might also be a problem of putting the containers in full sun so they would dry out too fast.

    • @Cerridwyn1st
      @Cerridwyn1st  2 месяца назад +1

      @@user-zb6ul4ti9d I haven’t ever grown strawberries from seeds. My understanding is that it takes a long time.
      If starting from bare roots for strawberries, you want to get them early, as soon as they arrive in the spring. Here in Florida that would be January or February. You want to be sure that the crown - the top part of the plant where the leaves come out - is above the soil. If you bury it the crown will rot and never grow.
      If there are still packages of bare root strawberries in your area, feel them to see if they seem cool like there is still moisture in them. Personally I feel for one that’s a bit cool and maybe even feels like it’s sprouted in the package. If the package seems warm and dry then the roots are probably dead and won’t grow.
      Hope this helps.
