This will be insanely hard to balance but might be so cool! I am afraid that it might fall into the trap of Humankind of must-have civilizations/traits, that are just a class above the others, that you try to rush. But the bonus to non-picked ones might alleviate that really well.
One thing I would like to know is if you can choose an arquitectural/cultural style for your nation and if the units change depending on how your culture looks. Fox example, in this video you can have Crusaders and Khans as your Warfare national spirits, will the units from the Crusaders branch just look like european or if, for example, if I'm playing a south american culture will they look like south american knights? I know that mercenary soldiers was a thing in history, but choosing Crusaders with the intention to declare a holy war against another religion would make more sense if the units look like they belong to your nation.
Absolutely hoping for that too. Another example is if you're playing as Japan and choose the trebuchet focus. I hope they're Japanese stylized trebuchets!
The devs said recently that only European art will be available. This is presumably due to budget constraints and if the game is successful I wonder whether we'll be offered more art styles as DLC.
@@linmanfu913 here's hoping it makes it to DLC release. Paradox is known to cancel games if they're not performing well - look at Imperator: Rome. On Millenia's recent livestream you can't really find a positive comment... I sincerely hope this team picks up and learns from the state of Millenia and postpone/devote more care, time and resources to it to prevent it from getting canned...
@@papiew1 Unfortunately, I think they might struggle because of Ara. The poor Devs at C:>Prompt must have had a terrible day when they heard that they had a competitor with maybe a fifty times their budget that appears to be a straight Civ clone. *Millennia* is at least trying to innovate; Microsoft is just trying to leverage their control of Gamepass to take over Firaxis' space.
@@linmanfu913 Absolutely, and this is definitely an attenuating factor. I do feel Millenia has good innovation ideas such as the ages system - that's fantastic. Though I'd question if they truly wanted to compete with Civ clones or civ itself if they haven't put as much attention to detail. I feel like a conversation has to be had wether they want to produce and release a low scale game or if their aspirations are to actually compete with industry titans. If their goal is to simply produce a minor game and release, then as-is the game is fine, though, it really won't perform well. I'd say let it cook, make a risk-assessment if they'd rather gamble a deficit but better odds at performing (such as implementing their planned DLC before release) or release near as-is and let it sink. Anyway... The devs absolutely listen to community from what I've seen and I have faith they really do believe in their work.
2:14 What happens if an npc already has a national spirit I really want as well? If I I choose it anyway will they switch to a different national spirit?
Acording to this no, AI will not switch the one they have already chosen, but you, if you arrive late, will loose the bonus that choosing other national spirit would have given you, but it is a bonus, not a penalty, so you are free to choose whatever you want :D
I can't help but find very weird to talk about nations in Iron age. Nationalism is a product of western society in the transition from medieval age to renaissance.

I absolutely love this feature
Cant wait to see more
Do the national spirits have debuffs against each other or diplomacy mauls? Ie Warfare Vs Pacifism
What happens to the bonus for not-yet-picked National Spirits if there are more than eight players?
Your question was sent off with the others for the developers from the Millennia discord so hopefully we'll be an answer for you soon.

This is EUIV Ideas under a different name.

Bloody cards. Just one bloody game without bloody cards for once...
They're not cards tho? They're just techs.
It's how 'techs' are presented and interacted with. That is what the comment is about.@@ChrissieBear

Nationalism is, but nations existed as long as governments
