@peter studios Without getting bogged down into which film is better, my advice is to see more films from your own era. It sounds like you've missed out on an awful lot, which is unfortunate.
@peter studios Just to unpack your post on this, at first you compare comic book movies to the best movies of the 1970s. That's dishonest deck-stacking and it displays an imperfect understanding of cinema at best. And if you're honestly saying you didn't even like Parasite then I don't know what else to tell you, other than say, watch movies with a more open mind. Sometimes we love one era in cinema more than another. But keep in mind that a lot of the revered films of the past do all kinds of things that would get them eviscerated by critics if they had been released today. Films released in our era come under a more challenging microscope because of the past films they get compared against and that is why they should be judged fairly.
@peter studios We're only talking about one film at this point. Let's not get too scattershot. The bottom line is that the films of the 2010s and nowhere near as bad as you make them out to be. Just like the films of the 1970s are not as flawless or as timeless as you might wish to believe. Every era has its good and its bad. I like my older films just as much, but I don't lionize them or elevate them at the expense of everything that came afterward.
One of my favorite performances in one of my favorite movies! I like movies that make you feel something long after it is over, The Deer Hunter was one of those movies.

@@me6271 How did that scene fit the movie? It just saw them together as pals. The piano scene was John saying good-bye to Nick and Michael, and the expression on Stan's face captured the magnitude of the moment precisely. Then it segue-ways directly into the war. But hey, I'm just glad you enjoyed the movie enough to comment. : )
I can't forget his facial expression during the russian roulette. It must have happened during the war in vietnam. Subtle superb acting. Belated congrats christopher walken.🎉🎈👏

He was outstanding as Nick in The Deer Hunter. Love you, Chris!!!💕💕💕💕💕
Remember when films were that good? Every one of those performances could've won. They were all great. Nowadays, we're lucky to get one great performance every few years.
Yeah... the '70s were definitely a golden age of filmmaking. The directors had guts (to do things in their own way) and the actors were of the generation that stripped away elements of cliche & caricature to deliver authentic performance. With the centralization of studio power over the last 25 years, we may never again see such a decade of sheer creativity and artistry in film.
it was one of those performances which usually get ignored by Academy, but 1978 was spot on. Hurt was close but the roulette and torture scenes in DH were actors gold and Walken stepped up. Walken subsequently took his daddies watch and he said "no greasy slope was ever gonna take his daddies watch"...
And was still 15 years too old for the part, but, yeah, he was very good. When my uncle, who was in Vietnam, saw the movie, I asked him what he thought. The first thing he said was, "They were all too old, but it was good."
@@anam3704 Well, late 20s is beyond draft age for sure. De Niro was mid-30s. Could three 30-year-old buddies all decide to join the Army together during the height of Vietnam? I guess. But, like the song says, the average age of the combat soldier in Vietnam was 19. My uncle was 18 when he was drafted, 19 when he went over and a 20-year-old buck sergeant when he came back.

@peter studios Fair enough. I've never seen Heaven's Gate. I hear it's actually quite good.
One of my favorite performances in one of my favorite movies! I like movies that make you feel something long after it is over, The Deer Hunter was one of those movies.
Exactly 👍
Bruce Dern John Hurt Christopher Walken What a fantastic group So hard to pick won’t find a group of 3 like this together anymore
I must say i also always liked Jack Warden...
His speech was honest and straight to the point. A well deserved academy award 💯
1979 Dyan Cannon, still gorgeous & beautifully vivacious. Telly Savalas, legendary TV stud. Last but not least. Christopher Walken, becoming a legend in his own right.
I got chills listening to the nominees. All are great actors in great films.
Those are some serious actors. What a great line up.
Agreed, all good movies too!
I just watched it and curious about Walken cos he was just beyond phenomenal in this film. So glad to find he was requited.
Dang, when he got up.....I though, "what s tall and handsome man!" Would love to be on the receiving end of that walk! Which translates to.....to have a beautiful man like that walk towards you....love those eyes and that VOICE! His speaking in that "pause-mode" is so unique. I just love it! Love, CWalken!💕💕💕💕💕
THAT ENDING SCENE PROVES THAT HE DESERVES OSCAR!!!!
Recently have watched “The deer hunter”- a real masterpiece of Cimino and brilliant actors! Definitely Walken was superb in this movie! Before watching this movie he wasn’t even a significant actor for me!
Wow look how young they all were. Time goes by so fast when you get older. Awesome movie The Deer Hunter, glad he won.
No doubt about it, time flies faster and faster as we age ourselves!
@@dodgerblue182able True...
He is an genius and we should have seen him do more of these kinds of roles!!!!!!!!
Ahh!
The good ole days
Nice actors
Great movies
Movies like those nominated here won't be seen again due to the quota system.
He even talks like a Christopher Walken impressionist
well deserved Oscar for Christopher Walken in "The Deer Hunter".
Christopher Walken has great acting in The Deer Hunter.
All the actors were superb in that film.
He's always great!
Which is why he was selected for the award.. Why else would he have been selected for it?
Love Chris Walken.. Probably one of my favorite actors of all time.
he also performed great acting in that film.😒
How wonderful. An acceptance speech that didn't politicize a personal belief.
I love Christopher Walken
The russian roulette scene is one of the best scenes ever made. Everyone involved should have won an Oscar for that.
It is impossible to separate de Niro and Walken during the excruciating russian roulette scene. Nor during the entire film in fact.
The Russian Roulette scene was intense, but the piano scene in Johns bar was, by far, the best scene of this movie, imho.
@@mortb9 The scene where they sing "I love you baby" is top 5 scenes of all time for me. The piano scene was mid compared to it
@@me6271 How did that scene fit the movie? It just saw them together as pals. The piano scene was John saying good-bye to Nick and Michael, and the expression on Stan's face captured the magnitude of the moment precisely. Then it segue-ways directly into the war. But hey, I'm just glad you enjoyed the movie enough to comment. : )
@@mortb9 filming began 45 yrs ago now
He's class, all the way!
Awesome clip. Thank you.
I can't forget his facial expression during the russian roulette. It must have happened during the war in vietnam. Subtle superb acting. Belated congrats christopher walken.🎉🎈👏
I wish people would stop calling Walken weird. I don't see weirdness. I understand the difference in the way he talks. But that is his unique style. I don't find him scary or even threatening. He has very unique and beautiful eyes that are very expressive. When he walked up on stage to receive his award I said to myself, " damn, that is one tall and good-looking man"! Extremely sexy! He was outstanding as Nick in The Deer Hunter. Love you, Chris!!!💕💕💕💕💕
1979, dignified and concise..
Walken has always had that “it” factor!
Astounding acting in an astounding movie, one of the greatest movies ever.
👍
He brings so much to every movie he's in. An amazing guy.
All 3 principle actors in the Deer Hunter deserved an oscar.
God,,,, that was such an EXCELLENT movie....
Nick breaking down in the hospital made me feel like crying myself.
When we were all still young and beautiful.
Back when Oscars were really worth watching!
it was one of those performances which usually get ignored by Academy, but 1978 was spot on. Hurt was close but the roulette and torture scenes in DH were actors gold and Walken stepped up. Walken subsequently took his daddies watch and he said "no greasy slope was ever gonna take his daddies watch"...
All 5 of those films are solid
He deserved that Oscar! He was amazing in that move. I love Christopher Walken. My son does really good impression of him 😆
❤️Christopher Walken “ The Deer Hunter “
*Christopher Walken Yeah!*
*Favorite Actor!*
*Deer Hunter favorite film*
The theme music of this movie must never be forgotten
What a well deserved OSCAR
If I won a Oscar and going up to receive the award, I’d be scared out of my mind, no matter how famous u are, ur heart is just pounding
He gave an absolutely stunning performance
Wow, it's amazing how young Walken is.
And was still 15 years too old for the part, but, yeah, he was very good. When my uncle, who was in Vietnam, saw the movie, I asked him what he thought. The first thing he said was, "They were all too old, but it was good."
We were soldiers once, and young.
He was in a Hawaii five o episode in 1968 or 1969, 10 years before this
@@EgbertWilliams How old is supposed to be Nick (Christopher's character) in the movie? I see him as a young man in his late twenties.
He starts his speech like ‘Two little mice.... ‘
Man, they also played "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You", which is the song they sang in the movie.
My favorite actor of all time
Love the deer hunter , one of the best cast ever , he was amazing in it ,,, one shot
When Christopher Walken first gets his name called, he looked like he wasn't even listening lol. Look how his head just perks up right when he hears his name
Nobody does a Christopher Walken like this guy.
This guy Walken should have won at least two Oscars, by the way, I f**king love the way he talks!
