My brother died on march 1st 2022 He used to show me these videos and we use to burn one and sit back and relax looking by in time with these pictures is one of my favorite memories. I love you guys keep up the great work.
Absolutely amazing. I a lot of things in life we’re still like this. I’m glad a lot of things have changed for the good. Wonderful collection of photos. Thank you!
Excellent compilation of photographs. Enjoy seeing how different parts of the country looked back then. Myself, was born in Los Angeles, 1958, and traveled the Western 11, and British Columbia with my parents....great trips for sure ✌😎.
I remember how, when riding the charter buses with the window open, you could smell the pine trees and the earth. I can almost smell that while watching these pictures!❤️
Notice something missing? No phones, no tablets, no Facebook, no Instagram. No social media and people were a LOT better off. I am only 41 and I have seen how social media has destroyed things.
And you're on social media to tell us how bad it is. lol I'm 75 years old, and I would have loved to had cell phones way back then. Cell phones save lives when your car breaks down and you have to try and find a phone in the dark. Social media is only as bad as the person that is using it.
I'm 45 been in NY for 30 years, born Europe Poland... This country change so much , just the time I been here ,,,it's crazy to think this country use to rule the world 🌎 not anymore,,,, people are laughing at this place ....sad but true..
@@Mariuz-ru9iw Ukraine is not laughing at us, and neither is Poland. (And if the US is such a joke then go back to Poland, grab your gun, and face Russia.)
My uncle worked the shipyards during WW2 as a plumber, he and a fellow plumber from Oklahoma became fast friends. In late 44 work started to slowdown, uncle tells friend, let’s go to my home town and work, the family owns a plumbing company, so they do. That is how I met their son, my age. Sometime in 1945, the son tells me,”My dog which we left in Oklahoma, in 1943 was barking at the door this morning.” After school I went home with him, here was an old hound, footsore going to the vet. The question was never answered. How did the dog find them?
One can’t help but feel drawn to these times. Easy for me to say, I’m old enough. These were good times, times of my youth I remember like it was yesterday. Different times than the present time, not better, not worse, just different and for those of us who lived through those days, great times in our country. Gas was 25 cent a gallon. 15 cent for a cup of coffee. It tasted better for some reason, but I cannot tell why. My car was a 1953 Crown Victoria. Did 100 miles per hour in that thing one day in one of my foolish youthful moments. Life goes on, I know, today is today and I’m up to date technologically, but cannot forget those days. So let it be said.
I get rocket fuel for writing short stories from studying these photographs. Many thanks for your time, energy and trouble in making it public here. You deserve a Sundae!
I enjoy watching these videos of America of the past .when are country was a good place .I can't express how the country went too hell in a handbasket . The greedy took over America taking away from his brother and leaving him out in the cold .This how are country was and will never be again. This America we had products built here in America like television and Appliances and bicycles Schwinn bicycle company is no longer made in America.
Notice people noticing how things were different, better, etc. What's funny and interesting is that every generation longs for "the good old days" it seems. The effect of Sin hasn't worn off the wonder of life as is the case with the old and dying. Only one way to the innocence of childhood - We MUST be Born Again !+!
I like the pictures and the descriptions, maybe you could put the descriptions under the pictures so it would be easy to read and view. Just a thought…
3:03 Bob Dylan's hometown the year he was born. 9:49 My mom's hometown when she was 2 years old. The bandleaders Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey hail from there. It was pronounced, Shenadoe in Coalspeak, a term describing the way people spoke in the mining country of East Pennsylvania.
What can be a lot of fun is to look up what some of the photo locations look like today, using Google Maps streetview - like here (for the country store photo shown at the 7:19 mark of the video): www.google.com/maps/@43.2909489,-72.7928955,3a,75y,298.15h,92.95t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sK-AFMPXjmVXuT_a-Cc0rgw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
At 1:10 Looking west at 14th and Commercial in in West Astoria; 2:20 The railroad and bridge are still there at Spalding, just outside Lewiston, ID. 2:30 The Nugget is still there, but it looks like they removed Spear St. to enlarge the casino. Just out of camera is a beautiful old state government building.
why nothing from the Pacific NW.. Worlds Fair was 1962 in Seattle Potrland /Rose gardens in the 60's awesome, Spokane Washingon was beautiful in the 60's. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In picture 8,32 it would be a year before WW2. How many of those kids served? At a highschool dance, and a year later they were on the front lines in the Pacfic or Europe fighting for their lives.
My family did camp all over the US in the sixties. We slept on tarps in the open air and we were close to area 51. My dad loved Nevada and unblemished parts of New Mexico. It was beautiful. Death Valley was a favorite. We did primitive camping. No one around but my family. I now have cancer?
Best time in America in my opinion. I was born in Poland, but I do watch history of this country,,,and from what I see ,,,,, USA is finished,,,,,so much bs in this country rite now ...
It seems like such a simple time to live without the complications of today. We forget the negatives! The rattletrap cars with no air conditioning, manual shift! The hot houses with no air conditioning. The barely operating refrigerators that constantly iced up. The stinking half rotten meats from the store. The moldy bread. Washing clothes in the old fashioned wash tubs. And hanging the clothes out to dry, only to have a rainy day. Too many more to list! We are lucky today!
Maybe, but I remember when my mom would give me a dollar and send me to the corner store. I'd come back with a loaf of bread, a pound of cheese, a pound of lunch meat, 3 large baking potatoes and a pack of chewing gum. Cant do that anymore...everyone has security cameras now! 😳
I never understood why people were always looking at the radio while they were listening to it. But, I guess it got them trained for watching when televisions arrived!
Boy, when they say "west", they really mean it. The first picture shown is from Hanauma bay, Hawaii. It has since become so overpopulated with tourists ( and locals ), that tourists now have to make reservations, and buy a ticket ( $25.00 ). Locals still get in free, and without reservations.
At 16:05, it reads XMAS!! EXCUSE ME!!!! Our Lord Jesus Christ is NOT AN "X"!! It's CHRISTMAS with the complete word of CHRIST! It's the celebration of His birth! Get a brain!!
I agree that that Christmas is the celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ, however no one is perfect and the people running the channel have a LOT of research and putting everything together! There’s no need to be rude! They are trying to do their best!
@@wendyryder2708 They may have a lot of research, but it takes only 3 seconds to spell out "Christmas" instead of Xmas!! Let's give our Lord the respect He deserves for dying on the cross for all of us!
The image at 20:09 is a stolen and mutilated work of art. "Crossroads Store, Persons County, North Carolina - 1939" by Dorothea Lange. This is one of Lange's most famous photographs and is a BLACK & WHITE image. For someone to smear color paint all over it is an abomination, and the worst kind of insult to the artist. Why not also spray paint over the Mona Lisa?!!

13:40 Lincoln, NE. It's about 180 miles away. OMG, the old cars! I'm in heaven seeing them. I sit here wondering if any are still here in 2023.

B&Ws of old buildings are often devoid of outside clutter. So relaxing. Landscape around buildings is nonsense. You dont need it.

I love these old pictures but I don't think I've ever seen Oklahoma listed as being in the South before now.
So where the hell is it?? He obviously divided the country into quarters. OK is below the Mason Dixon divide.
call me cranky, but I find little amazing in these images, and a great deal of emptiness in them. Not sure why.
