  • It would appear the flooded (wet) OEM batteries they throw in Polaris atv's cause some headache. Rather than fill the OEM, I swap with an AGM instead.

Good video. I might also suggest a Rick's Hot Shot Mosfet rectifier (70 Amp) and a Quad Logic Battery relocation kit. The relocation kit is great and well worth the money. All parts are included. Believe it was around $80. I'm not affiliated with either.

I'm assuming the relocation kit goes into a rear wheel well, (haven't looked at it yet). Have you had any issues with water/mud shorting anything there?

Changing the battery and the oil filter is a total disaster.
The engineers who placed them in their nearly inaccessible locations should be fed to a pond of rabid bullfrogs.

In my opinion, they do this to make it just hard enough to encourage people to take them to polaris shops for work

@@bkisystems1590 Exactly. But others are real easy on top. I hate this.

The polaris engineer that put the battery down there should be run off. Major PIA to replace the battery, it is not as easy as the make it look, plus changes in the frame cross members make impossible to get two hands in there. Engineers should be made to perform simple maintenance like this, then they will understand what a stupid design they came up with. Battery replacement should take no longer than 15 minutes. And another thing why put a cheap battery that need its water checked in order to maintain it, there no way people are going to go through this BS just to check the water routinely. The motto at Polaris must be "save a buck and aggravate the consumer." Just changed mine out to an AGM battery and the next atv I buy will be maintenance friendly, so I'm guessing it won't be a polaris. Mine is 2018 570 w/EPS. Watched your video before changing mine out.

I suspect its to annoy the owner enough to change it through their service facilities. If I'm not mistaken, if you buy the 850 or 1000 models, they have a much more accessible location for the battery, not sure what type though. Either way you have to pay...

I’m in my 60’s and not a mechanic but don’t find this that difficult.

My 450 cranked very slow from day 1. It always acted like it wasn't going to start.
2 years old now, It wouldn't start.
I pulled the battery and it was indeed very low on juice.
But remember, like I said, it always cranked slow.
This week I put in a lithium battery and it starts almost instantly when I turn the key. Amazing difference.
The lithium battery is 300 cranking amps.
I also twisted the battery to the rear, over the tire.
This underpowered battery was just another way Polaris cheaped out on production. And the battery location was really stupid.

Completely agree with you! Nice job - curious which lithium battery did you wind up using?

You really need to strap the battery down being it so close to the drive shaft. I think Harbor Freight sells those rubber straps.

Thanks John. I say it never came with one but there's a better chance that it got knocked off in use. I'll check my local store and see if they have one.

What is wrong with Polaris, their battery is damn near inaccessible especially for an old man like me, I can't believe how stupid their battery placement is. Suzuki invented the four-wheeler, you lift the seat and there's the battery. This is my second sportsman I bought new and I will never buy another one.
