- Day Wave - Ceremony (New Order cover) - San Francisco, Live, 8-4-15, Phoenix Hotel. 1st show of the Good Measure Tour, free concerts hosted by Noise Pop, JDV Hotels and Boing Boing.
Other Tidbits:
Their new EP 'Headcase' was self-released a few weeks ago. We were hoping to get a CD autographed, but there weren't any for sale. It was a free show and they even had free drinks!
The EP is only 5 songs long, but the band played a lot more than 5 songs, which was another nice surprise!
Jackson Phillips previously fronted the electro-pop duo Carousel. This was also the first show of Day Wave's upcoming tour, as a headliner and with Blond Redhead.
I forgot to ask Jackson what the names of the other songs were when we were talking to him after the show. Fortunately, Oakland is his hometown and he will be back later this month.
Setlist:
1. Nothing at All
2. Total Zombie
3. New Song 1 (Come Home Now)
4. New Song 2 (Wasting Time)
5. New Song 3 (Waiting for Nothing)
6. Ceremony (New Order cover)
7. Drag
8. Headcase
9. New Song 4 (Promises)
10. We Try but We Don’t Fit In
This is my favorite song ever, but I've never thought to figure out the meaning of it. Once I tried looking up interpretations of the lyrics but then I stopped because I realize I love the haze of it. Just the feeling of it. Nothing has ever made me feel the way this song makes me feel, even covers of it. It's pure magic. It's a different world in itself. It's haunted by Ian. It's so much beautiful melancholy. It's some sort of moment that's been captured between time.
You summed up my feelings for this song perfectly.
I found this song two years ago and ever since then I've loved it. It's one of my favorite songs. It just seems to flow so perfectly from beginning to end being both fast and slow at the same time. It's an amazing experience to listen to.
!!! perfectly said
I like that 'best song ever' part.
This song is a place, where I go to from time to time since 1981.
Respect to any drummer who tries to do a live cover of Ceremony outside in a hotel courtyard.
...What? It's not a particularly hard song to play. You're just stringing words together like a Family Guy cutaway gag.
I love it when younger people play the classics.
says alot about them, also about the original , and personal validation too
almost perfect.. the drums r my problem, guess its hard to match the skill of morris though
yes,the fact that he has no toms make it sound very differently. Ill give it a B-
stevonub heard the original recording, that was so obvious to me (a newb).
This is what every band looked like in 2005
It’s nice they let Timothy McVeigh be the drummer.
THANK YOU!! WHAT AN AMAZINGSONG BY NEW ORDER...
great to see someone covering this song. seems the drummer is on his own version of the song.
practice on drums!! others are pretty cool
WoW... I am finally impressed with a cover of this song.
Man good job!! I Would like to hear them live!
Bravo!!!
Saw New Order a few times right at the beginning. These guys do a good job.
Great cover! One mistake I noticed was the lyrics in the second chorus. It's supposed to be
"Well I'll break them down, no mercy shown.
Heaven knows it's got to be this time.
Avenues all lined with trees.
Picture me and then we'll start watching."
shut the fuck up
Can you please teach the North bay to be this cool? I'm good on .........hmmmmm
I'm a huge Ian Curtis fan - well covered! Thanks.
Facetious Weeaboo sarcasm huh?
Ian wrote Ceremony
Well I mean the song was originally sung by Ian... He recorded it 4 days before he died
Day Wave, that's a kickass band name
very well done!!
Nice cover of my favorite song ever!
Yeah this is how I found Day Wave! Ceremony is my all time favorite New Order song.
Jeez took a check out song literally
I very like this cover too. Bravo !
Le son est bien dégueu mais c'est comme ça qu'il doit être !
JOY DIVISION COVER.
Skipped a section but otherwise good.
Huge NO fan, your cover is the one I like the best. :)

GREAT COVER!! All the groove, all the moves! Soooo cool!! Many thanks!
wonderfoul
great!
congratulation!!!! good voice
Loved this, your voice is great but the drummer was a bit off.
It's hard to keep up with Stephen Morris.
+canuck21 good cover, but you're right, drummer needs Red Bull to keep up with Morris.
Im in middle school right now, i hope i can play this song in ceremony high school.
Awesome, guys. Nice.
Good job!
Great job!
great cover
Good job !
Solid cover
great cover!
Nice JOY DIVISION cover 👍
Carl Evz13 *New Order
It was made by Ian Curtis before he died. It's a Joy Division song.
the lyrics and some of the instrumentation was changed drastically, I mean not even morris knows what Ian was saying when they played it with him
Show!!!
Awesome
pas mal du tout , La France dit "bravo"
Well done!
What is the bassist doing 🤣
Too much guitar distortion rather unnecessary...New Order sound is always distinctively crystal clear...still gave me chill tho..love it..greatest song from greatest band..
Well i agree but I actually like the ultra distortion.
it’s a cover, their adaptation
Great job boys.
well played
Great cover
But, that's Joy Division young man
Mac Spelling Originally yes but they definitely covered the New order version (the better on to be honest)
The drums are god awful. Also I thought there was not enough rawness in the voice. I'm not sure but I think it was reverb that was putting me off. Anyways not a terrible cover :)
It's a respectful version. I like the excessive reverb and I'm sick of peeps saying the drummer is shit.
NO.
Very nice boys.
