- Talk about a youngster taking his opportunities when he needed to the most. Canan Moodie had an Excellent performance vs Argentina and showed why he needs to be in the World Cup squad for 2023. He was amazing on defence and made great reads and made some dominant hits, it's rare to see a wing be as physical on defence as he is, not to mention how young he is. He's only going to get better. Then on attack he was great as always, his size, speed and physicality makes him very good under the high ball. He didn't really have to compete in the air, as most of it was normal cross kicks, but he did have a few challenges where his attempts resulted in SA getting the ball. He might not always take it cleanly, but he makes it incredibly difficult for the opposition wing or fullback to get the ball in the air.
It's scary to think he's still so young and clearly not challenged by the spotlight. I see people want to try him at 13, I think he should stay at wing, he's very good on defence there and we've seen how bad the Springboks look when our wings make the wrong reads. I would much rather let him stay at his wing position. Then when time is right, we have Henco van Wyk at 13, who is a carbon copy of Lukhanyo Am on defence. Not to mention Henco and Moodie played for the junior boks together as 13 and 14 so they also know each other that way. Either way, South Africa is lucky to be able to have different option. After this World Cup we're going to lose a lot of senior players, and we're going to have to develop a new Core for the 2027 World Cup. And it definitely helps when you have players like Moodie.

He must go to the WC. For a 20 year old, his skill set is exceptional.
I can't see him not making the squad, not after that performance. He might not be an integral part of the starting 23, but we need to give players like him the experience, so that they know what it's like for the 2027 World Cup.

Moodie is a natural and multi skilled. I would pick him over Mapimpi if I had to choose. He will help to freshen up the squad and add some unpredictability. Other teams haven’t spent much time analyzing him vs Mapimpi. His defense is also awesome.
Agreed, Moodie has to be selected. Mapimpi has done nothing to warrant selection for RWC but will be most likely be selected ahead of Arendse because he has more caps, whatever that means. Whoever gets selected depends on how brave the coaching staff is.
Best young talent in SA at the moment. KLA is class too but moodie is the full package
I think what makes Moodie even more special, is the fact that he has incredible size, which gives him that physical aspect. But in saying that, I think we've all seen now KLA is pretty good for his size, haha players like him and Kolbe are more physical than they get credit for. They might be small on paper, but on the field they punch well above their weight
definitely, but we have to admit Arendse tried those big hits against the pumas but wasn’t entirely successful. Moodie tore them to shreds . But I think we can resort to different tactics depending on whose on the field
KLA is 27 years old mate. He’s not young at all. Crazy to think about.

Moody is taller and as elusive as the talented shorter wings currently in the Bok set-up.His height makes him more effective under the high ball.
The AB's beat us in the air so Canaan is the player to consider seriously.
We have the wings at the moment and this young man has a great career ahead of him, his just showing class and calmness you need for the big games.

I have been singing his praises from the time I noticed him. Well done to the coaches for giving him a chance at this young age. It's not just that his talent is immense, but he is also able to read the game so well. That's what sets him apart and why I would start him at 14 in my side.

So refreshing to have a winger that can defend and attack very well, over recent years we've had those that can run to the line but with mediocre defense abilities. Well done and congratulations C Moodie!

Jesse Kriel had a great game, but if Am is injured I'd like to see Canaan Moodie playing at 13 next to Andre Esterhuizen and Kolbe on the wing...
He is fantastic but he lacks the build to be in the middle. Maybe later in his career. But we have to take Andre. He is head and shoulders better than DDA in terms of his all round game.
He has great control over his body, also great awareness of the game. Very controlled rugby player at such a young age. T bad about the rugby jersey, IT needs to be clearly South African colours not a clowns suit, with no ties to the bokke.
We need him for this upcoming BRUTAL world cup.

Mapimpi served his time excellently, but he lacks fundamental aspects (making clean breaks / having vision) that Moodie has.

He is more well rounded than his counterparts. In a tight match like Ireland we will need wings that can actually defend and are solid under the high ball. Makazole will be found wanting. KLA Arendse though lethal is still behind Cheslin.

@@RareMaestro Yep, just take a look at what the All Blacks are doing. They play guys at the back in multiple positions so that when it comes down to it, not only do they have a lot of depth but also great coverage when needed. The fullback spot for instance. Just take a look at their current lineup. You got someone like Beauden Barrett that can play fly half/ full back. Will Jordan that can play wing/ full back. Damian McKenzie that can play fly half/ fullback and Jordie Barrett that can play wing/ centre/ full back.
Good kid, in two years time he will be a monster. WC under his belt and a couple of test caps later. Watch yout for this one, Kolbe 2.0...

A real find exceptional game should be a starter.
Brilliant player with versatile skills, good reads on defence and attack. Our centres and scrumhalves just need to stop pushing him tight to the touchline. With a bit more space he’ll create havoc.

Moody was phenomenal. Very impressive. Do we take 4 wingers to the world cup? Kriel can play wing as well. I just don't think Moody makes it.
Good performance...I would however like to see him be a bit more aggressive into contact. Long career ahead of him most likely at 13 once he does the inevitable bulk up as he ages

I agree, but you have to admit, he's been impressive every chance his been given. I'm not saying he's world class yet or anything close to that. But I'm very impressed with his Rugby IQ. It's rare to see a youngster be so smart on defence. Usually that is something they that gets developed as they get older. Seems like he has that already.

I went tru the video and on attack he got tackled ALMOST every time except the try he score with nobody infront of him. On Defense he shined making most of his tackles and chasing kicks and placing Argies under pressure.
Comparing him to Arendse, i would go with Arendse that can beat defenders, score tries, reads in game situations, is good under high ball, can make massive tackles.
