Hey Everyone! Thank you for being here today. I’m so happy you are here with me today to see what I created. If you are new to my channel, I’m so happy you have found me and I hope you enjoy what you see. It’s great to have you here. If you are a returning creative friend - thank you so much for your unending support; it really does mean a lot.
Today’s piece is inspired by: one of the first ever designs I did. Using just three tones to create a piece that just says WOW.
Technique used: Travelling Straight Pour
What I learnt: Be careful not to muddy your colours; black and white even with the slightest of movements will always create a grey tone. That said, this was just about having fun and seeing where my creativity would take me.
Colour palette: Gold, White and Black. (Windsor & Newton/Mont Marte Brands)
Time Stamps: If you want to go to a specific section of the video, here are the main segments:
00:13 Straight Pour colour palette and canvas outline
01:00 Taping off the back of the canvas
02:11 Making sure the canvas is flat and level
02:33 Lets look at the colours and the consistencies
03:28 Layering my cup with the three tones and my words of wisdom :)
06:05 Layering the paints on the canvas
06:48 Let's get Pouring
08:46 Stretching out the design
13:01 Let's look at the wet version
14:00 Getting the drips off the edges - this is what I do to take the drips off
14:50 A look at the dry version
Canvas: I use canvases from Loxley Arts: either the Gold or Ashgate brands.
Pouring Medium: I use a ready mixed pouring medium here in the UK and this was made and produced by a fellow fluid artist. You can get that from her here: madebymelovedb...
Hair/Blow Dryer: I currently use the Remington D3010 and always use the cool setting unless I specify otherwise. This works for me due to the slim nozzle at the end. There are also other great alternatives and each artist has a dryer they find most comfortable with using.
I have a video that shows you how I mix my paints for various techniques: • Fluid Acrylic Pouring ...

This is lovely!! Your teaching style is so great and perfectly British. I like that you talk to our listeners and not just about yourself. Keep up the great work and cheers!

@@deesdavi7592 wow that’s amazing!!! Didn’t even know that’s what happened
@@MarkJRatcliffeArt See! You're SO good and you're appearing in news feeds!! You go Mark ‼️
Btw your calm demeanor as you work is very alluring because other artists come on with a super strong over-caffeinated energy that honestly doesn't appeal to all audiences.
They're not thinking about what head space audiences may be in.
Your channel and work always soothes and despite how talented you are, you are HUMBLE... and humble tops ego every day!
Don't change my friend:)
Really a nice colour combo and the design is very beautiful
Thank you so much 😊

Wow i do love the colours its fab
Thank you so much Wendy 👍🏻💜
I very much like this piece. I enjoy your pictures when you limit the number of colors you use. I seem to use too many colors and am not satisfied with them. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!
What a lovely picture great
Thank you Tracy 😊
You are very talented and knowledgeable. Love your videos. And yes you have a natural way to teach which saves us money, frustration and time. Thank you

It's like a far far galaxy. I like it very much and am locking for more. Perfect combination of colors ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Gorgeous! Three beautiful colors that give an effect of richness. Thank you
Thank you 😊
That is awesome how you made the paint thick enough to glide yet hold the lines. Very nice!
Thank you so much Brenda. I learnt if you make your paint a little thicker, less chance of it getting muddy and you can work it a bit more 👍🏻
Love this. I am going to try this palette. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Thank you 🤩
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Very Nice… love the colors together
I love the deeper sides tho ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful
Thank you so much 😊
I love it
Thank you 😊
Your work is awesome! I love the gold, black and white painting! I tried this pour and my gold sunk to the bottom when I added it to the cup. Did I not add enough water? Thank goodness the painting still turned out very nice! Thanks for all your videos!
Thank you so much. Metallics like gold have a slightly different density so maybe a little more water next time 👍🏻
Love this
Thank you 😊
Love your work and how you explain things so clearly. I'm in the UK.
@@dianejohnson6777 thank you Diane - where in the UK are you?

I love this. You have some great effects in this painting with lots of movement in it too xxx
Thank you so much Barbara…. I love the movement in this piece 😊🙏
Beautiful I think add some crushed glass to it would be very pretty
Thank you. Yea adding some mixed media would really bring out those elements too x
Mark, this is gorgeous! I really enjoy your work!
Thank you so much! I’m so pleased you like it 😊🙏
Lindissimo
Thank you 😊
I love the half swipe and half flower bloom on your back wall. It looks like a calalili in the center before you stretched the pour. What paint brand do you normally use? Beautiful end result, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!! I use a combination of brands including Amsterdam, Daler Rowney System3 Acrylic, Windsor & Newton, Mont Marte, Arteza 👍🏻 THANK YOU so much for your feedback 😊
Mark I have to admit I was nervous when you poured the second cup. Oh my too much paint but I was wrong. This is great. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Maui - I always use too much paint but I think this was just enough to allow some stretching. Thank you for your feedback and support 🤍🖤
Nice!
Thank you 🙏
I love it and I don't say that often.
Thank you, really appreciate your kind words 😊
That was so beautiful !! You can try the best as you can but little bit too much. You did awesome.
Thank you! 😊
I’m going to do this too
Yay! Good luck 🤞🏻
Thank you Mark. I like it that you use only 3 colors. I like it much more than a bunch of 5-8 colors. This looks more ...I don't want to use the wrong word.....classy? (I am not really very comfortable with english, so sorry if I say it wrongly)
Your English is excellent 👌 thank you so much x
I do love this piece!! The way you teach and explain makes it look so easy!! Thank you Mark for inspiring us 🤗🤗
Thank you so much Bonnie..: to receive this feedback really makes me smile and to say I’m inspiring is a wow moment for you. Thank you for your unending support 🙏😊
You are doing fine
Oh God do I love this piece…!. I missed this vidéo a year ago. One question: why Liquitex PM this time instead of Owetrol/GMV?
Thank you. I was testing out this medium because it’s already glossy but I feel it’s more rubbery so not sure I’m a huge fan of the medium itself
@@MarkJRatcliffeArt I do agree with you. I do not use it anymore exactly for that reason. I really prefer Floetrol. Thanks for sharing
This painting was absolutely awesome, love the colours. What do you use for your medium, and as a base coat ? I've heard people use paint from b n q for the base, I'm still very much a beginner and have good paints bad paints, some passable and some swiped off. But I guess everyone is the same. I never seem to get the right mix. I'm using pva and water as the medium, and just keep mixing until I think it's ok. I've loved watching you videos. 😍😘😍
Are you in the UK Pam? If so I buy my pouring medium from a fellow artist called Jo - message her on her page and tell her I sent you, she will give you a quote - facebook.com/madebymelovedbyu/
Ok so when using glue and water - a rule of thumb I use is 60% glue and 40% water. I’ve never used house paints from B&Q I tend to use Winsor & Newton or Daler Rowney System3 Acrylic.
Hope that helps and thank you so much for your kind feedback and encouragement 😊🙏
@@MarkJRatcliffeArtThanks Mark, I will have a look,x
I love it :) where are you painting from?
Thank you Camila, I’m based in North West England, UK 🇬🇧
Beautiful where do I find how to prepare the paint ,struggling nana
Thank you so much- I made this video - I hope this helps Fluid Acrylic Pouring - Mixing my Paint (Reference) - Paint/Pouring Medium Ratios

Beautiful again.please what did u mix the paint with.I want to try this one also.
I used Liquitex PM for this one, but Pva or Floetrol would give the same result 👍🏻
Thanks for replying back so soon.love your work.
@@willyguliker4697 thank you so much! You’re welcome, anytime 👍🏻
Hello Mark, you were kind enough to offer your help on my questions earlier in the week on a FB art club page. Here l am checking out some more of your work 😊 pouring is wonderful to watch. This piece is lovely reminding me of some rock l photographed on Kintyre on Monday past. I was interested to see the spots appear without using a blowtorch. What do you do with the paint that falls off the canvas? I think l would like to let it dry so it could be peeled off and perhaps cut up and used in a collage. Just a thought. Many thanks Alioban x
Hey Alison! Oh wow what a brilliant idea, I love to to a collage so that’s a perfect suggestion. I might start doing that. Thank you!! And thank you for watching me and I hope you enjoy what you see 🙏💜
What did you mix to the paint before you were going paint. I ❤that painting. Pls.can you repliy to my
Thank you. It’s a pouring medium (glue/water) or you can use Floetrol/Owatrol or whatever pouring medium you have access to.
Thanks
تسلم يداك
Thank you for watching 🤗
Se fate vedere i vostri video in Italia, perché nn mettere i sottotitoli in Italiano? Grazie
This is an old video. All my recent work have Italian subtitles and I’m slowly working my way back through my portfolio to add 19 languages including Italian
Rookie here😂🤣😅😆size of canvas please?
Hey! This one was a 20x20 inch
👍
🤩🤩🤩
Sound is better
Love it
Thank you Lisa 🤍🖤
Another incredible pour Mark. I love the three tones together ❤ Well done. 👏👏
Thank you so much Catherine 💜
Hi Mark, love your colours & design in this piece. Thank you for sharing your expertise & taking the time to be definitive even in the small areas such as taping the back of a canvas as these have to do with overall presentation of an artwork. Thank you. Cheers, Michelle from Australia 🌹
You are very welcome, thank you for watching Michelle 🙏🤩
I love this but too much paint wasted
Love everything you do I'm just learning so everything looks good to me thanks
Wow thank you!! This cup just looked delicious. Thank you for your lovely feedback 😊
God those colors melted together so well!!!!
Thank you so much Garrick - I love this palette 🎨
I just love this piece so much. I learn something new every time I see your work. Good job my friend. :)
Thank you so much Brian! So grateful for your support and feedback 🙌🏻💙
It looks so textured, i was surprised when you said it was smooth. This is one of my favorite combos as well. Have you tried doing one with drying time between each color combo. Example.... do a cup that is predominantly black let that dry then do mostly white letting that dry, then the Gold with maybe just a smidgen of the black and white. Im taking a break from acrylics to play with a few other mediums but I still love to watch and learn.
Thank you so much Donna… wow yes!! What a great idea; I might try that to see what happens 😊🙏
Mark this paining is just simply gorgeous I’ve never thought of doing a straight pour this way but it works it’s different it makes me happy. I’m going to have to try this I wish I knew how to upload Pictures so I could show you my art nothing like yours but I am working on it and I’ll keep trying to just like you. Love your art thanks for sharing

I very much love the three colors together!. As you say “the linage” is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your work. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for watching and for your support 😊
