Man your crazy to do that, I've been in those tunnels inc the one that went alone the rear of the tanks, there was low oxygen warning signs in the tunnel and a strong smell of fuel. But thanks for the awesome video.
Massive kudos for getting in there! At 18ins diameter this pipe would be a tad too small for me... Seen much of the rest of the site on other channels but never inside the actual tanks - not many can say they've been in there! Great video thanks for posting!
Thanks for that. Glad to know someone appreciates the effort. It was a tight, claustrophobic squeeze but the oil helped lubricate me through! And it's very impressive inside - rather like in a very dull concrete cathedral.
FairPlay mate, takes some bollocks to squeeze through those pipes, not may people have got into those tanks. Imagine if your torch 🔦 went dead, you’d never find the pipe to get out
Kudos for getting in to the tank itself. What an adrenaline ride through that 18" pipe. Up at Inchindown they have created a sled thing which you lie on and are pushed through with a poker but you did this first so well bloody done for having the nerve.
Amazing! never been in the actual tanks of the depot. Always seen the half cut off ladders that I assume lead up/over to the tanks. Had many hours and visits enjoying the engine room and the long echod tunnels. Shame this place is currently sealed. Thanks for uploading :)
Yes. The ladders lead up to a small chamber which gives access to the main fuel storage chamber. Glad you liked the video. Unfortunately, the chamber is so large that even with the bright torches I used, they couldn't really make much impression into the distance!
RevengeLawn thanks for the reply. Such an interesting place. I am guessing you used them ladders to enter the chambers? As I am not aware of entry other entrance points apart from the main 3 to the tunnels.
Entered through bottom one of four horizontal access pipes - you can see them at 1.11 in the video. Had to slide through on my back. The pipe is about 18 inches diameter!
RevengeLawn now you mention it, I do remember the pipes. We threw a stone through the pipe to listen for the drop and how deep it would have been. You are very brave to have crawled through it. But well rewarded for your bravery. I am slightly jealous to have missed this oppourtunity and believing I had seem most of it now makes me realise that was wrong.
Have you been in the one in Scotland Invergorden it has six tanks 3 less than portsdown hill it held the worlds longest reverb echo they are 45 feet high and 800 feet long 30 feet wide
That explains the winches in the corridors at the end of each tank... to crank the pipe up and down inside the tank. Wonder if it was the inlet or the outlet?
yes, winches are for the internal pipe. You have the same thing on cylindrical buried fuel reservoirs (11.50 ruclips.net/video/wfw3GZvnYqg/видео.html) Not sure whether it's in or out. Sorry.
My guess is one of the four pipes through the wall is the inlet and this one is the outlet - simply because when fully lowered as can be seen in this video, it drops into a depression in the floor (a sump) so the tank can be fully emptied.
It wasn't too bad really - I was more worried it may have been corroded in places. Anyway, I had to climb up it to get to the chamber above (see ruclips.net/video/n9RZ0IlMyeY/видео.html)
I love it that you don't make a big thing about it. Our Secret. You were there First. But Dear Guy you put yourself under so much risk to collect this footage. Good Show but for Goodness Sake - Take Care of yourself. You Legend. But at the same time it's be like at 4:32 - Do not try and climb those steps.
Thanks very much for your comments. Yes, I don't like making a big thing about stuff, old boy. Too many people nowadays make it all about themselves, instead of the subject they're filming. I blame selfie-sticks!!!
from which material are the walls made of? is it metal or concrete? the echo sounds very clear with almost no predelay. what would you hear 300 meters ahead of the man? i suppose these tanks are not for public. is there any chance to get into? would be intersting to make some recordings there
Side walls are concrete. Unfortunately, the last I heard(summer 2018), this fuel depot had been sealed up. When I was at the far end, it was very difficult to make out what a friend was saying at the other end, cos of echoes.
@@RevengeLawn I want to ask if the Portsdown Underground Fuel Bunker makes echoes the same way the Inchindown oil tanks do. Not only that, but I also want to ask if the Underworld, the domain of Hades, the Lord of the Dead, makes echoes the same way the Portsdown Underground Fuel Bunker and the Inchindown oil tanks do.
@@RevengeLawnThanks for the reply. Not only that, but I want to say the Underworld smells rotten the same way the Portsdown Underground Fuel Bunker does. That's because Hades is hotheaded to make it this rotten and spooky.
The tank size are 240 metres long 11 metres high and 10 metres wide held 20000 tons of oil very dangerous poor air inside of fuel fumes I’ve seen the enterance will my friend and all sealed up with metal and bolts

That fuel bunker is an amazing feat of engineering.

looks amazing matey would luv to visit there

Thanks very much. It was quite tight but there was enough wriggle room to get through, but did need a bit of a push on the feet from a mate!
Actually the first time we entered inchindown tank no.1 was about 2010 using the left over sledge that the workers used to gain access

Imagine the walls would be made of glass. how much would the reverb increase?
we found this aswell and the engine room flooded with oil

Apparently, that long ladder at the end of the tank is a deathtrap, as its supposedly very slippery from the oil.

RevengeLawn how wide is the tank
Tanks 4 to 9 are the same as this and tank 1 to 3 are shorter only around 150 metres long
I will call this the backrooms level 1285 because it looks so liminal
1:30 oil level float ..connects to the huge measuring tape in the main tunnels ...
Thanks for that - I was wondering what that was.

wow thats big
So big that the echo just went on for ages - a fair bit longer than on the video!
Are you gonna do it?

I wonder whats at the top of that ladder
This ruclips.net/video/n9RZ0IlMyeY/видео.html
The way in
Slowly starts filling with oil
Echo
Is this place still accessible?
I don't think so. They've concreted up some of the entrances and welded up other ones.
My advise it’s interesting but health comes first poor air quality specailly inside the 9 tanks and pump room that’s why they sealed it up
Where is this
Have a look at the title.
Needs more pipe organ!
