Cassian's introduction is genius. He's a rebel, but not a lovable scamp like Han or a noble knight like Luke. He's a jaded spy who will absolutely murder innocents, even allies, if they become liabilities or get in his way.
That scene where Cassian shot the informant before the imperial troops could get to him chilled me to the bone when I saw it in theaters, and it’s when the movie hooked me. Such a great way to show the dirty work the rebels had to do to survive against impossible odds.

In the rebel attack to Scarif, the Red Five pilot died trying to enter in the base. The rebellion chose later a new red five pilot... Luke Skywalker as we witnesses in episode IV and the following. For me, this is one of the best Star Wars films ever. The whole film is incredible: complex characters, narration... and the last fifteen minutes a brutal rollercoaster. Darth Vader here show us how terrific, cruel and evil he could be.

Andor kinda embraces this in their show. Tbh their droid is the only one treated with the kind of love and respect I feel a lot of droids in Star Wars deserve.
The ending of this movie makes ANH a lot funnier; Vader personally watched the Death Star plans get handed through a gap in the door and saw the Rebel ship get away from him. And everyone on that same ship is basically going "lol we dunno what happened to the plans."
Carrie Fisher died like 2 weeks before this movie released, and before I saw it. It was a real emotional jolt seeing her appear at the end of this. I had no idea she would be in this.
The actor who played Gold Leader actually recorded some new dialogue for Rogue One. The actor who played Red Leader had passed away in the interim so all his stuff is archive footage.
Not only Andor series has amazing writing and acting, but the dialogue is at another level. And the visuals? Wow! Andor is peak Star Wars show, can't wait for season 2!

Darth Vader´s dark tower it´s in Mustafar. The same planet where Obi Wan defeated him leaving limbless and burned. Those angry memories helped him to become stronger.
No matter how many times I watch this film, or even reactions, I get full body chills multiple times throughout. Absolutely incredible. Great reaction, too. Meg's excitement is so contagious.
Starling, Krennic, Erso, the Death Star, all dead and gone within at least a week or two of each other. The Rebel Alliance was real slow for a long time, but once Jyn kickstarted it all, they really pulled out all of the stops
So the Tarkin actor was Guy Henry, a good actor in my opinion, but they recreated Peter Cushing's likeness with CGI, with the permission from Cushing's estate.
It opens up a good conversation about using cgi to posthumously recreate an actor's performance. I think when for me when i pair it with the proposed James Dean movie from a few years ago the only thing i can come up with that can make it ethically alright is not only do you have to get the permission of the estate, that estate must have living family members that knew the decedent actor very well during their life and would be able to say with confidence that the deceased actor would have been happy to reprise the role if they were still alive. All boxes that the Cushing estate checked off handily. Thats why the james dean movie wouldnt have worked because there's nobody presiding over his estate right now that knew him in person and theres no way they could ever say he would have chosen to play the role in the film thats being developed. That estate cannot give trustworthy consent because its extremely likely for that estate to be money motivated in that decision.

It's the assets you own, or, if dead, owned in sole title at the time of your death. Every state has probate procedures which include the necessary appointment of a human being to manage the decedent's estate, usually called "Executor" or "Personal Representative". A person's likeness and image is part of his estate. Using James Dean as an example, his image and likeness would be part of his estate, and usage of it would be managed by Dean's Exectutor. If's Dean's estate was deemed fully managed and closed, it could be reopened. Dean certainly has heirs as a matter of law, maybe second or third cousins by now. I doubt they would give the Estate's Executor any flack over signing a contract for the usage of Dean's likeness and image via CGI in the update of a classic movie that would provide those heirs with a nice and unexpected payday.

The film i was referring to that would have used james dean's likeness was not a remake of one of his films. It is only of interest to his heirs. A lot of times people with lots of money name a bank to serve as their executor, or if they died old without a spouse or kids, it is not very likely their heirs were close to that person at the time of death, so the idea that Dean's Executor must be close to him and know how he felt about the usage of his image and likeness is not very accurrate, IMHO. We have not mentioned yet the very likely possiblity that Dean may have had a Living Trust, in which case the Trustee, or, by now, a Successor Trustee, would decide how the assets are going to be utilized. It is unlikely that such Trust would have contained provisions directing the Trustee to be very particular as to how Dean's image would be used in future years, but if Dean actually was concerned about such matters, he could have put very detailed instructions in a Trust or a Will which his fiduciarty would be required to follow. Even then, it is likely that heirs only interested in money would Petition the probate court for relief from those restrictions.
From EVERYTHING I've heard you say in terms of your beliefs and themes that you love, I think Andor will become one of your favorite pieces of Star Wars media. It is so intelligently written. It is masterfully acted. I've been obsessed with star wars since I was 4, and in my 35(almost 36) years of living on this planet and consuming star wars material, Andor became my favorite.

Andor is 100% worth the watch even though you know Cassian's ultimate end. It's the best done Star Wars content in the Disney era IMHO (and is in the conversation for best ever).
Even though it would make her wait so long, I really hope she doesn't watch it until after Clone Wars and Rebels. There are a few characters and themes in Andor that she will understand after having seen those. Not knowing those things don't detract from Andor, it works perfect as it's own enclosed story within the Star Wars universe, but _knowing_ those things adds more weight to some parts

When Mon Mothma asks Bail Organa about the hidden jedi, it´s referring to Obi Wan Kenobi. And when he said "I would trust her with my life" he is talking about Princess Leia, his adoptive daughter. He arranged the plan to bring the plans to Obi Wan through Leia.
The rebel who ordered Cassian to kill Galen is just scared of what else Galen may make for the empire in the future. I can’t really blame him. Galen just built a planet killer and while he did sabotage it, the rebels don’t know that.
Michael Giacchino wrote the entire score for this movie from scratch in roughly 4 weeks after the last composer dropped out last minute, taking his music with him. Baze and Chirrut were both "Guardians of the Kyber temple. Sort of like Buddhist monks, deeply devoted to the Force. When the Empire took over Jedha to strip it of kyber crystals, Baze and Chirrut fought against them in an underground resistance and tried to help citizens and children, especially orphans that unfortunately had parents that were killed etc. Baze essentially "loses his religion and faith". He drops the traditional robes for more practical gear. Thats why he is so against the Force and doesnt believe in it anymore, after seeing the atrocities of the Empire. Thats why it means so much when Chirrut dies, he says "The Force is with me, and I'm one with the Force", hes showing his friend and they know they will both see each other in the Force. People allute to a relationship between them, but in traditional Asian stories snd Wuxia style stories, the concept of "brothers in arms" is very common. They share a bond on many levels, and it shows in how they joke with each other. Kudos on a great reaction, I am stoked that you enjoyed my favourite Star Wars movie. It hits on so many levels :)

The red head is Mon Mothma one of the founders of the rebel alliance and a close friend of organa and Padme. Important character helps with the financing of the rebellion.
Fun fact: When Chirrut(Donnie Yen) says "Are you kidding me I'm blind!" It was Donnie himself lol the director thought it was excellent and allowed it to stay in.
chirrut and baze's "i am the force and the force is with me" made me cry so much like- baze didn't believe in the force!!! he just believed in his best friend and wanted so badly to be one with the force so he could be with his friend again!! He looked to chirrut as he died!!! hoping that he'll find his friend in the force!! i sobbed
We aren’t still testing nuclear weapons, not only not daily but not at all (other than North Korea, and those have been few, underground not in ocean and by an isolated dictatorship outlier). Other than them the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban treaty meant the last known tests were in the 90s with the 90 USSR in 90, UK in 91, US in 92, France and China in 96 and Pakistani in 98. There’s apparently some suspicion China may have tested one in 2020 but it’s disputed.
Mon Mothma had a minor role in Return of the Jedi during the Rebel Alliance briefing about the 2nd Death Star, and the actress here played her in a couple scenes in the Prequels, though most if I recall were cut for time or other reasons (I think they're well worth checking out, as they show more of Padme and Bail Organa taking an active role in trying to save the crumbling Republic). She got the chance to reprise her role in Andor, and it's where she gets the most time to shine by far. She is incredible in that show (as is essentially everyone).
I love the continuity between this and A New Hope. Most of Red and Gold Squadrons are archival footage of the same actors from the original, and Blue Squadron is notably absent because they all get wiped out here. Also Red 5 is killed, leaving that call sign open for Luke when he joins up.
I like how it makes Leia retroactively cooler. When Vader boarded the ship in A New Hope, Leia claimed it was a diplomatic mission. The ending here shows that Vader LITERALLY JUST SAW HER LEAVE THE SCENE OF A CRIME. She was lying to his face, knowing he knew the truth, and didn't bat an eyelid.
Carrie Fischer died the day I saw this. Someone found out while checking his phone after the lights came back on and announced it to the theater. A sad counterpoint to the ending of the movie.
This movie really enforces the ‘War’ aspect in Star Wars. These battles most of the time there is almost no happy ending or if there is people pay a high price for it as almost every character in this movie did. Vader’s elevator scene was without a doubt the most well done in the OG he was the bad guy revealed to be the tragic father of the hero in the prequels he we see the rise and fall that lead to who he became. But this showcases Darth Vader as what he is to all enemies of the Empire, a horror monster that strikes fear to all in his way.
I cant wait for you to tackle Andor... and yes, if it wasn't obvious enough it's a prequel lol. It is legitimately some of the coolest pieces they have created in the franchise, and a lot of people pass it by cause it has no lightsabers...
Don't forget in A New Hope, Luke was TRYING to join the empire. For him it was no different than joining the army at 18. If his application had been accepted imagine how different Luke would've been and Vader and the rebellion if Luke joined prior to meeting obi wan
I mean, it seemed more like he just wanted to join their flight academy and then defect like Biggs did. He is very interested in hearing about the Rebellion when Threepio mentions it, and he even says to Obi-Wan that he hates the Empire but that there's nothing he can do about it at the moment. He wants to leave Tatooine, but I wouldn't say he actively wanted to join the Empire's ranks.
Yup. MOST of the skilled Pilots and Soldiers that join the Rebellion are Imperial Defectors. Some bought into "The New Order" hype and questioned what they found. Others joined (Like Biggs, like Wedge) INTENDING to desert after getting a skill set and an opportunity to escape their homeworlds.... maybe to snatch some equipment on the way.

When you were asking if Chirrut Imwe's actor does martial arts...yes, he is in fact, a legend. His name is Donnie Yen and as a kung fu movie afficionado he was one of my idols growing up, I would even put him above Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee. Recently he's been in a movie called "Ip Man" which is really good, it's a loose biographical movie about Bruce Lee's teacher and it was so good they made a ridiculous amount of sequels...in one sequel he even fights Mike Tyson. But I think my favorite Donnie Yen movie is either "Iron Monkey" or "Flashpoint", though.
The walkers at the end are not AT-AT's they are AT-ACT All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport a taller less armed and armored version which is why they were easily destroyed by x-wings and a door mounted ion machine gun

K2's actor, the underappreciated Alan Tudyk, was on set wearing stilts, arm extenders, and a motion tracking suit. So when K2 slaps Cassian, apparently that was unscripted, because in the next shot, Diego Luna is grinning so hard trying not to laugh, and trying to cover his face with his hand to not break the scene. Blink and you'll miss it, but once you notice it, you can never _not_ notice it

The black stormtroopers are called death troopers. They’re elite stormtroopers who act as bodyguards and enforcers for high ranking imperial officers like Krennic. That’s why they’re always with him. Black is also the color of the empire’s pilots.
An original theme when Star Wars was first being written is "War is hell". The producers of this movie sought to bring back that feeling, I think they did a good job through their characters events.
Chirrut is definitely Force sensitive in my opinion. He just wasn't strong enough to be chosen by the Jedi Order, so he served in what capacity he could.
I read a comment a while a go that makes this ending of this movie and the beginning of episode IV even funnier, because basically Leia is sassing Vader the whole time when he boards her ship during A New Hope. Because he knows she's lying, and she knows he knows she's lying, but she's like bullshitting anyway.

This movie is always bittersweet for me. I really enjoy this movie. It is very entertaining and a perfect fit in the Star Wars filmography, but the day I first saw it the theater was the day that Carrie Fisher passed away. My friend and I had just taken our seats in the theater, and he was checking his phone one last time before the previews started when he saw the news and told me. So, when Princess Leia showed up at the end and said, "Hope" it was hard to keep my emotions in check.

I went to see this a second time (I saw it first on opening night), with some family, we had already made plans to go. That morning before we left for the theatre was December 27, 2016, and the announcement of Carrie Fisher’s passing. This movie hit me so much more the second time maybe in part to the passing of, for many, the first named rebel we meet in Star Wars. I cried at the end the first time, I straight up sobbed when CGI Leia showed up on the screen the second time I saw it, and I was not the only one.

Carrie Fisher died like 2 weeks before this movie released, and before I saw it. It was a real emotional jolt seeing her appear at the end of this. I had no idea she would be in this.

The actor who played Gold Leader actually recorded some new dialogue for Rogue One. The actor who played Red Leader had passed away in the interim so all his stuff is archive footage.

Starling, Krennic, Erso, the Death Star, all dead and gone within at least a week or two of each other. The Rebel Alliance was real slow for a long time, but once Jyn kickstarted it all, they really pulled out all of the stops
So the Tarkin actor was Guy Henry, a good actor in my opinion, but they recreated Peter Cushing's likeness with CGI, with the permission from Cushing's estate.
It opens up a good conversation about using cgi to posthumously recreate an actor's performance. I think when for me when i pair it with the proposed James Dean movie from a few years ago the only thing i can come up with that can make it ethically alright is not only do you have to get the permission of the estate, that estate must have living family members that knew the decedent actor very well during their life and would be able to say with confidence that the deceased actor would have been happy to reprise the role if they were still alive. All boxes that the Cushing estate checked off handily. Thats why the james dean movie wouldnt have worked because there's nobody presiding over his estate right now that knew him in person and theres no way they could ever say he would have chosen to play the role in the film thats being developed. That estate cannot give trustworthy consent because its extremely likely for that estate to be money motivated in that decision.

It's the assets you own, or, if dead, owned in sole title at the time of your death. Every state has probate procedures which include the necessary appointment of a human being to manage the decedent's estate, usually called "Executor" or "Personal Representative". A person's likeness and image is part of his estate. Using James Dean as an example, his image and likeness would be part of his estate, and usage of it would be managed by Dean's Exectutor. If's Dean's estate was deemed fully managed and closed, it could be reopened. Dean certainly has heirs as a matter of law, maybe second or third cousins by now. I doubt they would give the Estate's Executor any flack over signing a contract for the usage of Dean's likeness and image via CGI in the update of a classic movie that would provide those heirs with a nice and unexpected payday.

Thats why the executors of james dean's estate in my opinion cannot ethically give this consent because they have no ability to be reliable representation of James Dean.
The film i was referring to that would have used james dean's likeness was not a remake of one of his films. The director was making a brand new story and wanted to use james dean's likeness in a role in the film as a marketing stunt.

It is only of interest to his heirs. A lot of times people with lots of money name a bank to serve as their executor, or if they died old without a spouse or kids, it is not very likely their heirs were close to that person at the time of death, so the idea that Dean's Executor must be close to him and know how he felt about the usage of his image and likeness is not very accurrate, IMHO.
We have not mentioned yet the very likely possiblity that Dean may have had a Living Trust, in which case the Trustee, or, by now, a Successor Trustee, would decide how the assets are going to be utilized. It is unlikely that such Trust would have contained provisions directing the Trustee to be very particular as to how Dean's image would be used in future years, but if Dean actually was concerned about such matters, he could have put very detailed instructions in a Trust or a Will which his fiduciarty would be required to follow. Even then, it is likely that heirs only interested in money would Petition the probate court for relief from those restrictions.

From EVERYTHING I've heard you say in terms of your beliefs and themes that you love, I think Andor will become one of your favorite pieces of Star Wars media. It is so intelligently written. It is masterfully acted. I've been obsessed with star wars since I was 4, and in my 35(almost 36) years of living on this planet and consuming star wars material, Andor became my favorite.

Andor is 100% worth the watch even though you know Cassian's ultimate end. It's the best done Star Wars content in the Disney era IMHO (and is in the conversation for best ever).
It's shocking how good Andor was. I didn't care a thing about it when it was announced, but now it's one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media.
Just think of it as a biopic of a long-gone historical legend! This whole saga was a long time ago, after all.
Even though it would make her wait so long, I really hope she doesn't watch it until after Clone Wars and Rebels. There are a few characters and themes in Andor that she will understand after having seen those. Not knowing those things don't detract from Andor, it works perfect as it's own enclosed story within the Star Wars universe, but _knowing_ those things adds more weight to some parts

When Mon Mothma asks Bail Organa about the hidden jedi, it´s referring to Obi Wan Kenobi. And when he said "I would trust her with my life" he is talking about Princess Leia, his adoptive daughter. He arranged the plan to bring the plans to Obi Wan through Leia.

The rebel who ordered Cassian to kill Galen is just scared of what else Galen may make for the empire in the future. I can’t really blame him. Galen just built a planet killer and while he did sabotage it, the rebels don’t know that.
Michael Giacchino wrote the entire score for this movie from scratch in roughly 4 weeks after the last composer dropped out last minute, taking his music with him. You may recognize some of Giacchino's other musical works such as Up, Incredibles, Ratatouille, Inside Out, Star Trek (2009), Lost, Mission Impossible 3, Jurassic World, Zootopia, MCU Dr Strange, MCU Spiderman, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Batman (2022), among many others. Baze and Chirrut were both "Guardians of the Kyber temple. Sort of like Buddhist monks, deeply devoted to the Force. When the Empire took over Jedha to strip it of kyber crystals, Baze and Chirrut fought against them in an underground resistance and tried to help citizens and children, especially orphans that unfortunately had parents that were killed etc.
Baze essentially "loses his religion and faith". He drops the traditional robes for more practical gear. Thats why he is so against the Force and doesnt believe in it anymore, after seeing the atrocities of the Empire.
Thats why it means so much when Chirrut dies, he says "The Force is with me, and I'm one with the Force", hes showing his friend and they know they will both see each other in the Force.
People allute to a relationship between them, but in traditional Asian stories snd Wuxia style stories, the concept of "brothers in arms" is very common. They share a bond on many levels, and it shows in how they joke with each other.

Having everyone die for the mission and showing the sacrifice made is what made this movie so good.

We aren’t still testing nuclear weapons, not only not daily but not at all (other than North Korea, and those have been few, underground not in ocean and by an isolated dictatorship outlier). Other than them the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban treaty meant the last known tests were in the 90s with the 90 USSR in 90, UK in 91, US in 92, France and China in 96 and Pakistani in 98. There’s apparently some suspicion China may have tested one in 2020 but it’s disputed.
Mon Mothma was in Return of the Jedi. She was one of the commanders explaining the mission to the rebels.
Mon Mothma had a minor role in Return of the Jedi during the Rebel Alliance briefing about the 2nd Death Star, and the actress here played her in a couple scenes in the Prequels, though most if I recall were cut for time or other reasons (I think they're well worth checking out, as they show more of Padme and Bail Organa taking an active role in trying to save the crumbling Republic). She got the chance to reprise her role in Andor, and it's where she gets the most time to shine by far. She is incredible in that show (as is essentially everyone).
This is just reminding how unbelievably good Andor is. Meg is gonna love it so, so much when she gets to it. I can't wait for season 2
I love the continuity between this and A New Hope. Most of Red and Gold Squadrons are archival footage of the same actors from the original, and Blue Squadron is notably absent because they all get wiped out here. Also Red 5 is killed, leaving that call sign open for Luke when he joins up.
I like how it makes Leia retroactively cooler. When Vader boarded the ship in A New Hope, Leia claimed it was a diplomatic mission. The ending here shows that Vader LITERALLY JUST SAW HER LEAVE THE SCENE OF A CRIME. She was lying to his face, knowing he knew the truth, and didn't bat an eyelid.

Carrie Fischer died the day I saw this. Someone found out while checking his phone after the lights came back on and announced it to the theater. A sad counterpoint to the ending of the movie.

This movie really enforces the ‘War’ aspect in Star Wars. These battles most of the time there is almost no happy ending or if there is people pay a high price for it as almost every character in this movie did. Vader’s elevator scene was without a doubt the most well done in the OG he was the bad guy revealed to be the tragic father of the hero in the prequels he we see the rise and fall that lead to who he became. But this showcases Darth Vader as what he is to all enemies of the Empire, a horror monster that strikes fear to all in his way.

It is legitimately some of the coolest pieces they have created in the franchise, and a lot of people pass it by cause it has no lightsabers...
So there was no Blue Squadron in A New Hope because it was interfering with the blue screen. They decided to kill them off in this one.
RIP Blue Squadron; you helped Rogue One pull off the most important heist in Rebel history.
Don't forget in A New Hope, Luke was TRYING to join the empire. For him it was no different than joining the army at 18. If his application had been accepted imagine how different Luke would've been and Vader and the rebellion if Luke joined prior to meeting obi wan
I mean, it seemed more like he just wanted to join their flight academy and then defect like Biggs did. He is very interested in hearing about the Rebellion when Threepio mentions it, and he even says to Obi-Wan that he hates the Empire but that there's nothing he can do about it at the moment. He wants to leave Tatooine, but I wouldn't say he actively wanted to join the Empire's ranks.

Yup. MOST of the skilled Pilots and Soldiers that join the Rebellion are Imperial Defectors. Some bought into "The New Order" hype and questioned what they found. Others joined (Like Biggs, like Wedge) INTENDING to desert after getting a skill set and an opportunity to escape their homeworlds.... maybe to snatch some equipment on the way.

This is my favorite Star Wars movie. I loved how it made the Force seem mystical and it made Darth Vader feel like an entity rather than a man.

And then, My Girlfriend had to remind me we weren't in our living room when I uncontrollably blurted out, giggling, "ya all dead now!" When Vader's Saber touched off out of the darkness.
Please for the love of god do not skip out on watching Andor because he dies in this 🙏. The show is so much more than his backstory. It is legit peak star wars.

When you were asking if Chirrut Imwe's actor does martial arts...yes, he is in fact, a legend. His name is Donnie Yen and as a kung fu movie afficionado he was one of my idols growing up, I would even put him above Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee. Recently he's been in a movie called "Ip Man" which is really good, it's a loose biographical movie about Bruce Lee's teacher and it was so good they made a ridiculous amount of sequels...in one sequel he even fights Mike Tyson. But I think my favorite Donnie Yen movie is either "Iron Monkey" or "Flashpoint", though.
The walkers at the end are not AT-AT's they are AT-ACT All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport a taller less armed and armored version which is why they were easily destroyed by x-wings and a door mounted ion machine gun

At 20:53 in this video, when K2 is taking Cassian and Jyn to "prison" on Jedha, he slaps Cassian to silence him. K2's actor, the underappreciated Alan Tudyk, was on set wearing stilts, arm extenders, and a motion tracking suit. So when K2 slaps Cassian, apparently that was unscripted, because in the next shot, Diego Luna is grinning so hard trying not to laugh, and trying to cover his face with his hand to not break the scene. Blink and you'll miss it, but once you notice it, you can never _not_ notice it

The black stormtroopers are called death troopers. They’re elite stormtroopers who act as bodyguards and enforcers for high ranking imperial officers like Krennic. That’s why they’re always with him. Black is also the color of the empire’s pilots.

An original theme when Star Wars was first being written is "War is hell". The producers of this movie sought to bring back that feeling, I think they did a good job through their characters events.
Chirrut is definitely Force sensitive in my opinion. He just wasn't strong enough to be chosen by the Jedi Order, so he served in what capacity he could.

This movie is always bittersweet for me. I really enjoy this movie. It is very entertaining and a perfect fit in the Star Wars filmography, but the day I first saw it the theater was the day that Carrie Fisher passed away. My friend and I had just taken our seats in the theater, and he was checking his phone one last time before the previews started when he saw the news and told me. So, when Princess Leia showed up at the end and said, "Hope" it was hard to keep my emotions in check.

That morning before we left for the theatre was December 27, 2016, and the announcement of Carrie Fisher’s passing. This movie hit me so much more the second time maybe in part to the passing of, for many, the first named rebel we meet in Star Wars. I cried at the end the first time, I straight up sobbed when CGI Leia showed up on the screen the second time I saw it, and I was not the only one.
