Richard Rankin does a great job at a real Edinburgh accent. I know hes from Glasgow, but he really does a realistic version of an Edinburgh accent. Hes got all the Edinburgh nuances and expressions. I know a lot of people outside Scotland wont really know the difference. Theres been a few Scottish actors, usually from Glasgow, in the past, who didnt really try. But Richard nails it.
@@stuartgrier5605 Good point, but from what I have read he seems to have moved to Edinburgh in the 1970s, after his stint in the army. Where he was based in Northern Ireland as young man. Though his backstory seems to change a bit between the books and TV adaptions. I think there is also a lot of similarities between the Fife and Edinburgh accent. If he has supposedly live in Edinburgh a long time, you would have think he picked it up a lot.
@@TheEggmaniac The Fife accent is harder than Edinburgh, but there are places in Edinburgh where the accent is very strong and difficult to follow. If you have not read any of the books, I would advise you read No1, No3 up to 6. I found No2 to be the weakest, probably because the publisher wanted another "Rebus book" and Rankin wrote it quickly. You will learn about the history of Rebus in the army and the SAS assesment, his wife Rhona and their daughter. I am going to give the TV show a miss for a while, I may go back to it when it's finished and I can watch them all in one sitting.
I was surprised at how good this show was. Looking forward to a second series. Richard was brilliant in it. I remember him from Outlander but I think this show showed off his talent more.

I am watching the series, but unfortunately I am not enjoying it as the story is nothing like the novels. In the tv show, his brother is an ex army, but in the books he is a hypnotist - like their father. His brother is convicted of drug dealing, but the tv show he is an armed vigilante who is waging a war on Edinburgh's crime barons. If i had not read the 24 Rebus novels I may have enjoyed it more. But as it is, i cannot see a second series. Pity.

Yeah, but John Rebus is from fife.

Richard Rankin is an awesome actor. Wish I could watch Rebus in the USA.
Series is surprisingly excellent. Acting superb, production in general is class, well shot and decent script for the most part.

Yes mainly because the scriptwriters in Outlander hadn’t understood the character, as they hadn’t read the books !
It’s so good
Would love to direct an episode of Rebus.
Soooo good
He absolutely smashes it. I love it
Absolutely loved it!
How & when & where can we see it in the USA?
Love it
Siobhan's mixed race 😆 what a surprise BBC
you haven't read any of Rankin's books then

Binge watched this and found it riveting.

Paul betany would make a great Rebus.
I thought Ian was just the job a natural successor to Ken Stott.
Richard
@@stephenwilson5043 yes sorry richard
It started really well until episode 3 when all the robbery nonsense with Rebus' brother and his ex military pals started.
It's fiction,.....lighten up Francis!
WHAT are you even talking about?
True crime fiction also has to make sense.
You on the sauce again? hic hic
Failed to entertain me and I gave up after episode 3
Ken stott is the only rebus new one is crap this is the 3rd actor does that not say something I won't be watching more 🤔
Stott was brilliant, Hannah was all wrong, having watched it, this actor is somewhere in between
Alguien me puede decir si son parientes al tener el mismo apellido? Gracias!
They're not related. @@lilianaadaro
The show was very average. The ending was piss poor. 5/10. I wouldn’t bother with a series 2.
