- The Archer - Edit including more beats / drums too add a little more of a punch to the song.
No disrespect to Taylor Swift or Jack Antonoff, I think they did a killer job on the song.
However, I felt like the song was building up to something that never came.
Hence with the VERY, VERY limited experience I have, I used my keyboard (a Korg Pa700) to create a rough version of what the song would sound like with more synth and percussion. Also added some panning to add depth.
Hope you like it!! xoxo
DISCLAIMER: I do not own this song
0:50 - synth comes in
1:36 - kick bass comes in
1:53 - double kick bass
2:08 - kick + snare drums
I tried to play around with the production to give it a little more spice. :) Let me know if you loved it or hated it, and any suggestions are most welcome!
Had the same idea since the first time I heard the original, and you did a really nice build throughout. Only suggestions are (1) drop the kick by at least half an octave. It gets lost in the low strings currently and could really stand on its own; and (2) keep building with the synth and drums towards the end. Maybe some cymbal crashes? Offbeat tom fills? Double the synth up an octave or even an octave and a half? The song has this energy that keeps building throughout and I think that by the end you could almost have brass and orchestra hits and sirens and distorted guitar power chords and it would all work, as long as you add them in one at a time
@@LackingUtility Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds awesome!! I'll try it out :) I recently got this keyboard so there's still a lot of features I haven't been able to explore yet, but I'll definitely try to figure out how to do this kind of stuff. Thanks again!!

This is tremendous. Great song but it really needs some sort of build up as you say. Have you considered doing anything similar with Nina Nesbitt's Is It Really My You're Missing? Maybe not so much drums as more of an orchestral build up? See what you think - ruclips.net/video/zM_zwLbGNH0/видео.html
This song from Yorke is a good example of what I think is possible: ruclips.net/video/DbbjQSC8iBE/видео.html&pp=ygUVeW9ya2UgdGhvdWdodCBpIGNvdWxk
This is such *genius*!!! I love the original, and she said somewhere that "waiting for the beat to drop" is what anxiety feels like to her, but as a result I can't listen to the original on repeat without getting anxious myself, haha! So she succeeded too well. Thanks for this version!!!
Ahh this is so satisfying to hear after hearing the original! As it is the song is a masterpiece..I mean the use of the building music to create that tension and anxiety of a relationship going nowhere is genius. But the added beats is just so satisfying!
Thank you! 😊
I do think it was a creative decision on Taylor's and Jack Antonoff's part to make it sound the way anxiety feels (waiting for a moment of release that never comes) but I just wanted to explore what it would sound like if there were beats in it instead!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊💕
OMG NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE *SUPERCUT* BY LORDE I LUV IT
OMG THIS IS MY FAVOURITE COMMENT THANK YOU 🥺❤️
YOU ARE SO RIGHT LIKE SUPERCUT PLUS A BIT OF RIBS WITH THE SINGING
I'm a DJ and I may play this in a club after the pandemic

This is so good gives me a stranger things vibe

PRAYING FOR ROCK VERSION
I always imagined some halftime drums for the big beat, something to keep it more of a strong feeling than a normal song when the drums comes. This is still awesome though
Minimalist perfection🥰
this sounded like Midnights version ❤️
I feel like it can be even more stronger, maybe the drum hits harder or something? I don't know, but I think that it has some potential to make it stronger
I'll keep that in mind if I ever do a remake!! :)
This is the best comment out there on your work. You kind of went for it without really going for it. This track has 80s vibes and if there is one thing about the 80s music is there no messing around with the beat! So please re-up a version with serious drops!!! You will kill it, trust me !!!
OMG the photo is flawless... Taytay need to see this🤍
Man this was so great! I like the original too but it always felt like how something was missing... But this is so great and gives it a nice feel to it!

Combat, I'm ready for combat
I say I don't want that, but what if I do?
'Cause cruelty wins in the movies
I've got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you
Easy they come, easy they go
I jump from the train, I ride off alone
I never grew up, it's getting so old
Help me hold onto you
I've been the archer
I've been the prey
Who could ever leave me, darling?
But who could stay?
Dark side, I search for your dark side
But what if I'm alright, right, right, right here?
And I cut off my nose just to spite my face
Then I hate my reflection for years and years
I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost
The room is on fire, invisible smoke
And all of my heroes die all alone
Help me hold onto you
I've been the archer,
I've been the prey
Screaming, who could ever leave me, darling?
But who could stay?
(I see right through me, I see right through me)
'Cause they see right through me
They see right through me
They see right through
Can you see right through me?
They see right through
They see right through me
I see right through me
I see right through me
All the king's horses, all the king's men
Couldn't put me together again
'Cause all of my enemies started out friends
Help me hold onto you
I've been the archer
I've been the prey
Who could ever leave me, darling?
But who could stay?
(I see right through me, I see right through me)
Who could stay?
Who could stay?
Who could stay?
You could stay
You could stay
You
Combat, I'm ready for combat
Great sound cheers me up
I LOVE THIS
Excelente. Era o que precisava
Wow ♥️
Glad you liked it!! :)
The song keeps building something that never comes because it tries to recreate a sensation of total anxiety
This cover!!
This is just genius! I love it. Btw who made the cover art?
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!! ^_^
The cover art is by @atnpop on instagram!
This song was gorgeous before but wow… now it sounds like it was cut from Melodrama by lorde. It’s giving super cut…
INSTRUMENTAL VERSION!!!! PLSSS
Where are you from this synth?
It's a preset on my keyboard - the Korg PA700 :3
Sound complete but kinda ruined the archer aesthetic
Yeah, I do see that now. I just wanted to see how other sounds Jack usually uses (the pulsing synth is the best example) would sound laid over this relatively simple track! :) I guess Jack Antonoff knew what he was doing when he decided to keep the production minimal :P
Anyway, thanks for checking out the video!! ^_^
sad twerking rn😪
Wats this video exactly about?
If you heard the original song, the song sounds like it's building up to something, but it never comes. You know how choruses usually carry a punch compared to the verse, that never really happens in the original song. So I tried to make the song a little more interesting by adding panning synth + kick + snare, so it sounds a little better. :)
I would twerk to this!
Thank you for this gem 💎
