When I played in my early teens, this was my go to song and my family had to hear it over and over...and over!! I'm now 65 and I've forgotten it completely
I’d like everyone to know that this was originally made to be super easy, for a woman Beethoven had a crush on and was teaching. He made the song for her. But when he found out she wasn’t interested in him, and in fact was dating someone, he got mad and added the hard parts because he knew she still struggled and was mad at her.
Yep! He proposed to her but she said no and married someone else. And because she was never a good piano player, he made the second part so she would never be able to play it, and his heart, again. Rip Simp Beethoven
Beethoven wrote Fur Elise for one of his students that he fell in love with. Since she wasn't the best at the piano, he made the notes really easy. After learning about her engagement, he was heartbroken and wrote the rest of the song so hard, that she'll never be able to play it. You learned something today! :D
*Therese was one of Beethoven's student whom he fell in love with. She was Not good at the piano, so he made it easy for her. Unfortunately, Therese rejected him. Beethoven was heartbroken and made it hard for her to play.* But this is not the original one, the piece which we know today is transcribed by a musician scholar, Ludwig Nohl. Beethoven loved several women in his life. So nobody knows who Therese (or as some believe, she might be Elise) is.
Beethoven was not always deaf. He BEGAN losing his hearing at 28 or 29, by which time was already an accomplished composer. His hearing was completely gone by the time he was 45. Furthermore, he wrote this piece originally so that his neighbor, a young pianist of whom he was particularly enamored, could learn to play it...(Thus the title, "FOR ELISE"). But upon listening to her play, he realized she was not very good. So he wrote the simple beginning so that even she could play it. Then later, he discovered she was already engaged, and wrote the second half so that she could NEVER play it.
The actual name was "Für Therese". Beethoven did like her but she didn't like him back. He did write it for her, he keept it easy so she could play it. He got rejected, he was sad. He did make it harder to play so she could never play it. He named the song "Für Therese" But his handwriting was so bad that they thought the name was "Für Elise". They did search for Elise, like who it could be. They did found a (I guess) friend named Elise. So the went for the name "Für Elise". If you search on google you can finde a picture. And actually the piece was not realiesed when he was alive, but I'm not sure about that. :) That's the sad story about the masterpiece. Hope you enjoy it! (: (Sorry for my bad english.)
this makes me sad in a way, the last time I was studying piano, I started playing Fur Elise. This connected me to a story my Grandmother always listened to on radio back in the day. I got half way into the music piece when my teacher was substituted with a horrible woman. I never finished. Still remains one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've listened to.

Absolutely correct. For people who make and play a song, they use the music to tell emotions through the song rather than them actually mentioning them. Like if you hear a high and fast part on violin, for example four seasons summer. The high and fast part represents the pain and anger vivaldi felt
Half of it was when he was heartbroken and wrote the rest to be super difficult so the person he was originally writing it for would never be able to play it.

Fun fact: Beethoven made this song for a girl who he liked named Therese. She was a mediocre piano player and Beethoven made this song so that she could play it (hence the start of the song) but after finding out that she was engaged to another man he made this song harder to play (the rest of the song) (yes I know this is from a meme but not all the people who came here came from the meme, and where do you think they got that info from?
Most guys after their girlfriend breaks up with them: *goes to a bar and gets drunk* Beethoven: *writes one of the greatest musical pieces of all time*
Beethoven's "Für Elise" is one of the most recognizable and beloved pieces in the piano repertoire, renowned for its charming, lyrical quality and engaging simplicity. Composed in 1810, this short piece is officially titled "Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor," but it is affectionately known as "Für Elise," which means "For Elise" in German. The piece is characterized by its memorable, flowing main theme, which is framed by contrasting sections that showcase Beethoven's inventive use of dynamics and expressive phrasing. Although it was not published until after Beethoven's death, "Für Elise" has captured the hearts of audiences and pianists alike, often serving as an introduction to Beethoven's music and the classical piano tradition. Its combination of elegance and accessibility ensures its enduring popularity.
i literally searched on youtube "old song beethoven dududududududududuuddu" and this was the first vid to come up and it was exactly what i was looking for
At 1:19 you can start to feel Beethoven's sadness and anger towards Elise and since he was in love with her before,he made the start easy but since he was rejected by Elise,he made the rest real, real hard . Also the song's name means for Elise in German
Thanks, here I was assuming Elise was some sort of fur creature I just didn't understand an almost LETTER FOR LETTER similar phrase from the language 80% responsible for the existence of English.
One of the most beautiful, inspiring, relaxing, genius music of that time and still holding that same feeling, inspiring seductive love of a quitted and ingenious affair of music composer ect
Elysian jhs its therese not elise its was supposed to be fur therese but she rejected beethoven so beethoven made it the 2nd part harder so she couldn’t play it
Every time I hear this masterpiece, I always remember the old kind woman who is living next to our house. She always played this song in her old piano every afternoon around 4-5pm after she waters her plants and do some cross stitches. I was around 6/7 when I first met her. I always had fun talking with her every weekends or if there are no classes. She taught me how to do cross stitches, we picked also some mangoes from her garden. She has a huge garden with a lot of fruits and flowers. She has also many cats like 8 and 3 old white dogs. One time, during my high school days I was too busy for my school work. I just notice one evening that all her cats went to our house asking for food, so I fed them. Next morning, my Dad said that the house next door is for sale. I asked and my dad replied that the woman died inside her room a day before yesterday. Her grandchildren wanted to sell the house. She was 93 when she passed away. I really like her house, her house reminds me of those magical houses in fairytales with lots of flowers and food. Her house was kinda old and having a classic style. Fortunately, my dad agreed to adopt all their cats and dogs. Few months later, her 3 dogs also died together with the 3 cats. The 5 cats still survive and died because of old age. I really miss her specially every afternoon because I cant listen now this kind of song. I am on my 30s and I decided to visit my parents on our house and as I see the house next door it is not the same as I saw before, which is pure magical and beautiful. Now, it was converted into a car shop. The trees were gone but the old piano was still displayed outside, rusty and damaged.
I can feel the pain, grief, hope, happy memories they spent together ( reminiscence) , the anger & every other emotion. It's crazy how music does a better job than words to convey feelings.
It’s so incredibly talent move your hands around like that and play a song. I tripped over my feet just watching. 😫 I can’t even fathom the gift and ability
Fun Fact (though most know already): Beethoven started writing this song as a gift/tribute for the woman he loved, Elise, hence the name "Für (For) Elise". He started writing it as a simple little melody so that she, as a somewhat inexperienced pianist, could play it. However, after discovering that she loved another man, he made it MUCH harder so that she couldn't play it.
I've heard the piece's origin story 1000 times & I absolutely love it like the common perception of these classical/baroque composers is that they were more dignified & elegant than modern humans & then you do research & learn who they really were and you realize that they're a lot more relatable & "human" than you expected Fur Elise's backstory is so petty & salty, it sounds like something I'd do & it's hilarious
Been playing for about 1.5 years now and can finally play this piece. Not nearly as good as here, but I can get through it. Very proud, it’s never too late to learn
Ikr apparently, Therese rejected him not only cuz she didn’t like him, but also cuz he was *poor* (she married a richer man) Serves Therese right lmao To the person saying “how”: Since Beethoven loved Therese, he made a simple piece for her to play which sounds hard so that she can impress everyone. Beethoven was halfway done with writing his piece, “für elise” when he soon found out that Therese was married to rich man around when he got rejected. When he found out about it he was furious and, made a certain part of the piece really difficult so that Therese could never play it.
Forsyth was the town. I, my mom next to me, grandma, uncle, aunt, nephew, other strange people. 6 was my age. Thank you for placing me back there. This is what my mom and I played that night.
Just a to clarify, the joke means that his crush is with another man. Just like how Beethoven made fur Elise for Therese but when he discovered his crush had someone else, he started making the song hard so Therese could never play it
Did you guys know Elise was a student Beethoven loved, but she wasn't great at playing piano so he made the song at first easy, but then he heard of her engagement he was sad and he continued making the song harder so she couldn't play
Uff i feel you...i spend almost my whole life with this and it's the only thing i was happy to learn...it reminded me to sooo much thing and they say...it's annoying and boring because a lot of doorbell use this song....uff i was feeling sooo betrayed.....
This shit hits hard man. When you hear the song its like watching someone grow. You can feel Beethoven falling into despair the further you listen. You can feel his heartbreak and anguish. One of the deepest musical pieces to ever be written :)
Fun fact fur elise is translate as (For elise) he was inlove with a woman named "Elise" so he wrote a note for her and very simple notes so that she can play easily, the moment at ( 0:51 ) you'll noticed the note is harder because, when beethoven realized that *Elise* was fall in love with the other men he writed the rest of the note on a very difficult way till Elise will no longer play piano

Like if you hear a high and fast part on violin, for example four seasons summer. The high and fast part represents the pain and anger vivaldi felt
Half of it was when he was heartbroken and wrote the rest to be super difficult so the person he was originally writing it for would never be able to play it.
@@Snavels yup. Haha
Not sure "easy" and filled-with emotion need be mutually exclusive. But yeah, it's an astonishing few minutes of music.

That was genuinely incredible. I’ve never heard the song in full length before watching this video.
Sad😕

Fun Fact (though most know already): Beethoven started writing this song as a gift/tribute for the woman he loved, Elise, hence the name "Für (For) Elise". He started writing it as a simple little melody so that she, as a somewhat inexperienced pianist, could play it. However, after discovering that she loved another man, he made it MUCH harder so that she couldn't play it.
I've heard the piece's origin story 1000 times & I absolutely love it
like the common perception of these classical/baroque composers is that they were more dignified & elegant than modern humans & then you do research & learn who they really were
and you realize that they're a lot more relatable & "human" than you expected
Fur Elise's backstory is so petty & salty, it sounds like something I'd do & it's hilarious

Since Beethoven loved Therese, he made a simple piece for her to play which sounds hard so that she can impress everyone. When he found out about it he was furious and, made a certain part of the piece really difficult so that Therese could never play it.
