- At Atlanta 1996, Krisztina Egerszegi won her third consecutive gold medal in the 200m backstroke, making her only the second swimmer, after Dawn Fraser in the 100 free, to win the same event at three straight Olympics. She is the only female Olympic swimmer to have won five individual gold medals.

Egerszegi, what a legend. She was always so humble. When I was a little kid, we went to the swimming pool where she trained and she used the same public changing room as everybody else. It was in 1994 when there were lots of news about her quitting the sport or not. Some photographers even followed her in the arena and she since she really disliked the media harassing her, she asked us if she could hide behind us, little girls. I was too young to realise what a legend she was but I clearly remember her winning her 5th gold medal in Atlanta a few years later. She is so respected and loved in Hungary.:)
Thanks for sharing. She's my favorite backstroker. She seems to be an introvert, unlike the American swimmers grinning with gigantic mouth when winning a gold medal.
So serene but dynamic at the same time - Krisztina Egerszegi's swimming is a thing of beauty! Her legacy and impact on the sport will never be forgotten!!
La meilleure dossiste de tout les temps c'est bien Krisztina Egerszegi !!!👍👍👍🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺
The greatest ever. Amazing backstroke, astonishing swimming... Thanks little mouse!
❤
Isten éltesse és áldja meg a ma 50 éves Egerszegi Krisztinát!
One and only, Krisztina Egerszegi!!..
Happy birthday Krisztina Egerszegi! She has had the 50th in the 16h of August.
We are so proud of You and thank you so much for everything!❤
Simply outstanding - an all-time great in the sport!
Thank you so much for the video! Greetings from 🇭🇺 Hungary.
Seeing this heart warming memory again, I feel like jumping in the pool to restart back stroke. ❤
Her leadoff backstroke time in the medley relay, 1:01.15, was faster than the winning time in the 100 m backstroke final at this event.
Unfortunately she decided not to taking part. She still did not have enough self confident... Unfortunately it is typical in Hungary. But WE love her and appreciate our 'little mouse'.
The most forgotten and underrated GOAT level swimmer ever. Doesn’t get the recognition she deserves.
cuz she is not from the US :D
Absolutely PERFECT form - a true champion in the sport.
She is not at all forgotten, not in Hungary anyway, but she doesn't want to live in the limelight anymore. She has 3 children, and they didn't know either for a while who she really was.
what are you talking about? She is an unbroken legend here in Europe for swimmers of her generation.
She is not forgotten at all and she got the recognition she deserved!.. Everything is fine!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ она лучше всех
She had no opponent, and she was only 22 when she retired, she could have participated in 2 more Olympics if she wanted to...she still would be most decorated female swimmer of all time.
She is the best backstroke swimmer of all time.
Amazingly Krisztina Egereszegi gets her 5th Olympic gold medal! 🥇 5x!
The 'original' Iron Lady from Hungary
Two different generations of swimmers. They both deserve respect.
GOAT backstroker.
Ma is megkonnyezem!!!!,Az örök KISEGÉR, AKI maradandót tett,s szerény maradt.EMBERI.
She was one of the best ever especially against those male German swimmers
Lol
Salam dari Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Giga mega ❤
National treasure
Néhány úszónő tanulhatna szerénységet tőle.❤
What a talent! She could have easily continued on to Sydney 2000 (if she wanted to) for more gold! Why didn’t she enter the 100m Bk in Atlanta? Her time in the heats of the Medley relay was faster than the winner of the individual 100m BK.
Because you get out on the top. That’s what makes you great and remembered.
Happy 50th birthday Krisztina!! 🥰🥰🥰

She retired from competitive swimming at the age of 22
Wow, the rest of the field are light years away from her. She could still make the finals in any of the current & past 3 games??
Egy igazi példakép, olimpiai bajnokhoz méltó életet él.
❤❤🎉🎉
Great Olympican.

200 IM?
I got to go back and change to revised the timeline to help Whitney Hedgepeth win the Gold medal for the Women's 200m Backstroke in 1996.
❤🤍💚
"She is the only female Olympic swimmer to have won five individual gold medals." ..apart from Katie Ledecky who has six individual golds.
She was the first to ever win 5.
Obviously, once she stopped and the new generation came.
