It is legit, but Dethklok is a parody band as well, not even originally real. From the cartoon Metalocalypse, which parodied death metal while doing death metal. Mostly one guy. The original videos are all animated, just not with comic book characters, but as videos the non-existent band made, you see them "shooting" some of them in some episodes. They did then became a real band and toured.
Dethklok is a parody itself, dude. You know that. Probably my favorite metal band of all time (sorry Slayer), though. Truly, truly so good in all respects🤘🏼🤘🏼✌🏻✌🏻
Brendon Small, basically the Seth McFarlene of Metalocalypse, is a musical genius and the sole reason their sound is actually legit. He also made two albums called Galaktikon (1 and 2) which are musically much more diverse and have a rather progressive metal vibe. But his pinnacle piece imo is the finale of the metalocalypse series which is a 50min rock opera called "The Doomstar Requiem: A Klock Opera" that he wrote all by himself in a month and did around 80% of the vocals on there (without them sounding even remotely the same across the 10+ different characters he voiced), most of the instrumentals and covered at least half a dozen different genres within the 18 songs. Even if you don't plan to watch the show, I'd highly reckon you check out the rock opera
