I was also shocked about the earthquake news which was nearly 3 years after my visit. I met some of the friendliest and kindest people in Nepal. My thoughts are with them. I hope they all are ok.
The weather looks so nice in the video as i started mostly early in the morning (like 5-7 am). The best views were early in the morning. At 10-11am the clouds (at least in May) were coming and hide the mountains. Also there are less trekkers on the way and you can enjoy the trek a lot more at this time ;) Wish you the best for your trek next year. For me it was one of the best experiences of my life.
Great video. I was there in 2012 and did the same Jiri - EBC route. I'm going back in October to try the Three Peaks route which includes another stop at EBC but takes in Gokyo and a few other 5,000 m peaks. It's a great way to go back and help the Nepali people after the earthquake.
How much was your trip in total . I'm planning this trip with cousin 8 months ahead . Would love a opportunity to chat . My Instagram is man_on_fire90 . Appreciate any advise
Fantastic! I should be there for 24 days so time and acclimatization shouldn't be too much of an issue hopefully. Also love the sound of less trekkers and cheaper living as well. If waking up that early means that I get to see similar views/weather to what you seemed to have, then that is most definitely a sacrifice worth making. Glad you had a wonderful experience, and thanks for the advice. I can't wait!
Loved it & the music was wonderful. The aerial view was stunning but I felt a bit sad for the guys when they had to leave. It's like leaving your greatest LOVE behind.

Absolutely perfect! This must be the most beautiful and spectacular video i have seen on the internet. Well done!
Thank you for that, enabling me to re-live part of our trek which we did back in Dec 1975-76 from walking from Kathmandu to Kala Pattar back to Lukla and out on the then dirt airstrip to Kathmandu. Cheers Stephen
Great video, did the same Feb. 2010 but walked out, followed by Annnapurna circuit another 21 days. Hope that people that we saw are alive and well. have not heard from my guide!
Nice video.... Refreshed my memory a lot, as I did the track from Jiri to Kalla Pathar back in 1997. A journey that often still pops up in my mind and absolutely a wellness trip for both mind and body. Nice music too.......A dream would be to go there again with my son and wife.....
Hi ! Thank you for sharing. I'm so glad that I found your video to watch before my trip this November. It's a beautiful trek from Jiri to Lukla. Yours is also one of the very few videos that shows much of the trekking terrain. I'm now very much looking forward to my trip.
One of my favorite place is Nepal, especially pokhara & Kathmandu ! I had a great experience ! Thank u Nepal & Nepali people ! I'm from Tokyo , but I'll visit next year again...
Thank you for posting this video, it was lovely to see it again. I walked this trail in 1991 with a friend, also from Jiri. The first part is the most beautiful in my memory. We had a slightly different route, some other villages to stay, and suspensionbridges made of wood, really scary. There was only electricity in Namche, which fell out every half our, that has changed now i see. I was there in early spring and it was really cold, with lots of snow at some places..
you are welcome! Yes the first part was really beautiful. The people are living there really simple. They are really friendly and show you the way if you get lost ;) I think from Jiri to Lukla..there are not many changes since 1991. I only met 10 other foreign hikers in 5 days. From Lukla to EBC you will get shocked of the tourism there.
I also travelled alone having done this 3 times to the everest region and once to the Annapurna section of the Himalayas. I did the circuit through Gokyo. This has some stunning scenery from Gokyo Ri. It is almost impossible to get lost unless in the very high parts you decide to go off the track which is not recommended. Just read ALL you can. You must go there. I guarantee it will change your life. Get fit and go - its a cheap trip and the people are lovely. By the way - I am now 66yrs.
Hi, thank you! yes, i would totally recommend you to start in Jiri, if you have enough time (recommended time from Jiri to EBC and back to Lukla is 3 weeks). - first of all you are better acclimatized to the altitude as trekkers started from Lukla and the chance to get AMS is a lot lower as when you start directly from Lukla - the trek from Jiri to Lukla and landscape is amazing and different as the trek from Lukla to EBC - less trekkers and more friendly nep. people - really cheap -...
thx. 1) From Jiri to Lukla i think no guide is necessary. The path is easy to follow with a good map.If you get lost the local people are helping you. The trek to EBC is also easy to follow. For Goyko i would take maybe a guide as some people were getting lost there on crossing a specific pass. You should also take the recommended rest days and don't go up to fast. Inform about AMS 2) yes, more then enough 3) Yes, most of them provide blankets. But you could also rent a sleeping bag in Kathmandu.
Much enjoyed; wonderful; thank you. My one regret is that, with the last shot of Everest Base Camp, you began to pan up towards the ice fall and stopped instead of tracing the standard route up the mountain as far a eye could see.
Hi, yes the best time to do this trek is spring and autumn because of the weather conditions. I did it at beginning of may. The EBC is here really busy because here its the season to climb mount everst. The last thing i heard you can still do the anapurna and ebc trek alone without a guide. Well, it is always safer to travel not alone. In may case i never felt in danger or unsafe. The way from Lukla to EBC is really crowded. there are some good hiking forums with a lot infos especially to Nepal.
From Jiri to Lukla at daytime it was quit hot.But from Lukla to EBC (especially on Kala Patthar) it was sometimes really cold. I worked with layers and this was the best decision for me. I packed like 3-4 Trekkingsocks, 1 Gloves, 2 Merino T-Shirt, 1 Merino Long-Sleeve, 1 Fleece, 1 Softshell Jacket, 1 Hardshell Jacket, 1 long Trekkingpants, 1 Zipoff Pant, 1 Buff, 1 warm Cap, 3-4 pair of merino underwear ect. You can also leave some stuff in Namche and pick it up on your way back. Have a nice trip
What a great job you did on this video thank you so much for sharing it. I am looking at 2014 for my trip, Doing the Camino de Santiago in 2013 first. Can't decide on the spring trek or December one for EBC from Jeri. Was told and have read the weather is colder but clearer skies to enjoy the views. But your trip is amazing and like you said early morning to get the clear skies. May have to rethink and do the spring Trek Dave
I've done the trek from 25.11.-14.12. and it wasn't really cold. In Gorak Shep only about -5°C in the night... and there was not one clowdy day on my trek!!! All the best for you!!
Hi, you are welcome ;) wish you the best for your trip in November. I enjoyed a lot the trek from Jiri to Lukla as there are not many other foreign trekkers and you have more contact to the amazing nepalean people and see how simple the are living there. You will be shocked after this trek when you arrive Lukla and see the huge groups of trekkers. Tip from Lukla to EBC: Start early in the morning as soon as the sun rise. Much more quiet and the best views to the mountains (at least in May).
Hi, thx. You can find at the end of the video at 27:40 my route and total days. I needed 16 days from Jiri to EBC and back to Lukla. Recommended are 21 days for this route. I would fly back from Lukla. Why do the same track twice?! Save the days to do some side tracks and do some rest days for acclimation. Don't rush and enjoy the amazing views. Inform about AMS.
Amazing video, and what an amazing weather window you had! I am looking to do the EBC trek in April/May 2013 hopefully. Would you recommend trekking in from Jiri first, or flying straight to Lukla? I won't be in a hurry, so time is not an issue. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you for sharing your expedition. Would like to ask how long was the trip and how one could find friends in Jiri to join and go through. I am going to travel to the area about September 20, 13.TKS
You are normally not much faster from Lukla to Jiri as the way from Jiri to Lukla as you are going up and down an this trek. So its no big difference. Its much better to start your hike from Jiri because you are already good acclatimized to the altitude when you arrive in Lukla after 5-6 days hiking. I needed 16 day but recommended for this trek are 21 days. I think you can find someone on the black boards in some hostels or at Pumpernikel Backery in Thamel. Good luck!
You are asking why i didn't start directly in Lukla?! There are many reasons for this (if you have the time to start in Jiri): - you are much better acclimatized to the altitude when you arrive in Lukla (still take the recommended restdays in Namche and Dingboche) - beautiful landscape and different as the landscape of the trek from Lukla to EBC - felt like you see a little more of the real nepal because not so touristy - cheaper as you dont have to buy the flight to Lukla - ...
hi, thx. the accommodations are really cheap, like 1 (1,24 USD) Euro per night. Expensive is the food and drinks. The prices are getting more expensive in the high. For example a bottle of water in Kathmandu costs 20NPR (0,20 Euro). In Gorak Shep a bottle costs 300NPR (2,75 Euro). I think, the average cost for one day was for me something between 15-20 Euros (inkl. accommodation, food and drinks).
Very nice picture of the trek aswell as the route which I find ineresting as I am planning my next trip end of November this year. Would be much nicer to hike from Jiri instead of short flight from KTM to Lukla. Any information is welcome! maybe you can tell me howe you did prepair and howe much time you walked each day Thanks!
Why did you hike both up and down via Tengpoche when there is a much better scenic trail high on the opposite side of the valley from Phortse to Pangpoche? That trail should be taken on the way up, then return via Tengboche monastery. After hiking that High Scenic Trail 22 years ago I have never walked up via Tengpoche again. Many big international agencies have started taking their clients up via the High Scenic Trail instead of Tengpoche.
climb the mountains and get their good tidings. nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. the windswill blow their own freshness into you,and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. John muir 1898.
awesome video. feels like i am right there. i have a list of questions. u travelled alone. is guide needed or no? my major concern is losing the way on the trail, also other dangers like theft etc. so, where do i get info on trekking alone? how did u do it? was it a book or website? i heard the best time for trek in nepal is spring or autumn. so, when did u go there? the trek doesn't look so crowded. for music, use himalaya(the caravan) soundtrack, whole album. its a good fit n i love it.
Liked it . Planning to travel soon. Actually m wondering about making good videos while in trek .I have Gopro Hero 3, sony DSC-HX100V & trying to get sony HDV. Most of ur video u took frm gopro, I guess. Wht u suggest me concerning about video.
Did the same 20 years ago, It doesn't seem to have lost its character which seemed to be subject to allot of development at the time, suppose most fly into Lukla, and more difficult politics since discouraged tourists a bit. the walk in is spectacular but very hard work, with no flat bits, Naively done without porter/guide support and loads of camping gear, walked out again as by that time 20lb pounds lighter and turbo charged with red cells from altitude, walk out took two days less from Namche
Thanks for the answers. Do you know anything about the safety issues- any mugging, thefts or assaults etc. along the route? I have heard that its quite safe though.
great video. i was planning a trip in December that somehow resembles yours, but I was thinking of first going by plane to lukla and trek back to jiri to take the bus back. do you think it's easier the other way around? I mean did you climb from jiri onward because going back on the same road would mean getting down the mountain and therefore would be a much faster trek... Thanks
thanks for your awesome video. How many day did you trek from jiri to lukla? and how many day did you decent from EBC to lukla? I will solo trek on this route in this february from jiri to phakding to EBC to jiri. 23 days possible?
fantastic video, great track!! I am heading down 13th April and I hope its as good as it looks. Just a quick question, is it cold? Can I track with just shorts and tees? I hate to over pack with clothes that I do not need.
Gerne.
Good coverage of the Jiri - Lukla stretch which is hardly seen these days by most people... but the music tends to become a little tedious towards the end! Perhaps you could re-edit with a larger variety of Nepali hill songs, Sherpa folk music etc.
Aloke Surin I did the same, starting in Jiri and really enjoyed it. The trails were empty and scenery far different than the stretch from Lukla to EBC.
yes, it was the gopro hero 2. You can charge it in the tea houses but it will get more and more expensive the higher you get. I had 2 batteries with me and just recorded some parts of the trek. Have fun next year and a save travel.
Amazing video. Thanks for putting up this video, very uselful ! Have a few questions: 1) Is it safe for a young couple to start the trek from Jiri all the way up to Lukla and then to Gokyo, without a guide or a porter? I have heard that there are not as many trekkers on that route. 2) Are there enough lodges on the way from Jiri to Lukla? 3) Can one manage without a sleeping bag? Do all the lodges provide blankets good enough for the cold? We are planning to go in November this year.
15:30 is this the Chuckung Ri you stand on or is this only some hill you walked up??? By the way your video is awesome, mine looks like shit instead of yours ;)
I was also shocked about the earthquake news which was nearly 3 years after my visit. I met some of the friendliest and kindest people in Nepal. My thoughts are with them. I hope they all are ok.

great experience , i did it from lukla and it was unforgettable trip ! Jiri looks amazing and more beautiful than i thought !
walked same route 10 yrs ago, so glad not much have changed
First of all thank you for visiting Nepal.what a beautiful video with smooth music.I watch this video while meditating.
From Jiri to Lukla there are a lot of tea houses (a little more basic then the tea houses on the trek from Lukla to EBC).
Thank you for that, enabling me to re-live part of our trek which we did back in Dec 1975-76 from walking from Kathmandu to Kala Pattar back to Lukla and out on the then dirt airstrip to Kathmandu.

Tolles Video, eine wunderbare Gegend.
Es ist ein Traum dort zu sein, und der Mount Everest hat was geheimnisvolles was mich in seinen Bann zieht!
Incredible pictures, thank you for posting this. I will return to Nepal one day!
This brought tears to my eyes at the end. I went to EBC in 2010 as well.

Awesome video! Beautiful documentation. Juri to Lukla- Camping or Tea Houses?
thx. No, I think it was the view from Pokalde (not directly from the top - a little further up the Nangkartshang Gomba nearby Dingboche).
outstanding video. Nepal is a very special place.

brilliant work, good work!
What shooting setting did you have your go pro in at Kala Patthar? Great filming
Hi, nice video. Can you send me the link of the background music you used in your video editing.
Great Video with lots of info. How much did you spend a day for all food and accommodations?
Your video shows the height of Kala Patthar as 5,550 meters but in 2008, the re-measured and confirmed the height as 5,644 meters.
Good video and good prayer.
loved the om mani padme hum mantra rendition (the female version) in the background.. could you point to the source or artist or a youtube video?

thanks for your awesome video.
I hate to over pack with clothes that I do not need.
you are right sir you can check thisruclips.net/channel/UCfL02HhJUmTXHX7OV8qT0oAvideos
yes, i know. Sorry for that! But im still traveling since nepal and had not much time for the video editing...
I've make same hiking way. It was GREAT!!!
Really great video !! Thank U
great video! thanks for sharing.
beautiful country
Great video. I'm going next year. I assume you made the video with a gopro? Did you just charge it in the tea houses at night?
yes, it was the gopro hero 2. You can charge it in the tea houses but it will get more and more expensive the higher you get. I had 2 batteries with me and just recorded some parts of the trek. Have fun next year and a save travel.
Doing the same trekk in may 2014.
We are welcome sir
Thx Akunz for the info. Cheers!!

wow how many km total ?
Amazing video. Thanks for putting up this video, very uselful ! Have a few questions:
1) Is it safe for a young couple to start the trek from Jiri all the way up to Lukla and then to Gokyo, without a guide or a porter? I have heard that there are not as many trekkers on that route.
2) Are there enough lodges on the way from Jiri to Lukla?
3) Can one manage without a sleeping bag? Do all the lodges provide blankets good enough for the cold? We are planning to go in November this year.
some one please tell me how many days does it take to reach lukla from jiri..!!??
thank you :D
