I think my biggest beef is in the fact that federations will have “auto qualifier” events and then half the time they don’t get anyone qualified due to whatever clause they add on as part of finish. IE- podium or better. Federations are so hard up on wanting to dictate best chances to win medals that they basically over manipulate the actual results to then make it where their decision is better. At some point a result has to stand- that’s the most basic level of sport. You either achieve it or you don’t by the result of the race. You shake hands, hold your head high knowing the result was what the result was. Too many federations mess with that concept. So it would be helpful to have like an “US Trials” 1 year out, those winners get spot, and then use say Wtcs A qualifier as other slots.
im a young pro triathlete and i dont have the money to be constantly trying to travel and race around the continental U.S. nevermind the world. This would help the sport so much, and give me and other smaller pros a great chance to achieve are dreams in the sport.
At a junior level it is common for Championship level selection to take place at a domestic race, which is pretty much a trials, so its not a far fetched idea for federations. In GB juniors and U23 athletes will race in the coming week for their Europeann selection, top 3 in each category go, no discretionary. So it's definitely plausible. Or as you mentioned about the relay qualification, GB had Dickinson, Brownlee and Milner race that super sprint EC to decide who's the best over the distance

If it rises out of your second- tier category, then the pool gets deeper and the triathletes get even more elite.
