- The Music of Nature proudly presents "Song Sparrow," a video portrait featuring several singing Song Sparrows, gathered in the countryside around Ithaca, New York. Song Sparrows are winter residents here and their bright carols are often heard on cold, clear mornings in late winter. Males continue singing well into the summer months.

For years this little bird has been waking me up and I never knew it was a sparrow, let alone a song sparrow. Mystery solved. Thank you so much for posting this. Now if the little fellow would only let me sleep......
Me too..😂😊
me toooo omg
What would our world be like without the sounds of birds?
maybe you don't realize how lucky you are that they're still in your backyard
@@YoChoppa_ I do, indeed!! Why would you say that?
Right now there’s a beautiful little Song Sparrow living in the tree next to my house so I am being serenaded quite often! He has a pretty song to share! ❤️
Finally, some commenter who understands how beautiful and melodic these birds are
What demented sad creatures thumbs down contributions like this??? Thank you for these sir!!
song sparrows kill innocent insects
Maybe they were expecting to hear Edith Piaf (the little sparrow).
L O L. for real.
There were other bird songs in the video besides the song sparrow's singing, so maybe that bothered them
They must hate their life...lol
I hear this beautiful song every morning just before I leave for school. I never knew it was a song sparrow!! So cute :)
Whenever I play this song 100 of sparrows come in my garden I am so happy
Beautiful, clear pics of the birds. Great for putting sounds to actual birds. Thanks
One of the most underrated little birds! ♥
When you hear these guys, you know Spring has rolled into town.
They stay in the snow here. I feed them in the winter.
I've been searching for this for about a year now. I'm so glad I found it, now I can listen to what I used to every morning where I used to live.
It's amazing how birds have such consistency in their song

Most of the time you hear birds that you don't see, so it's important to understand that you could be listening to maybe 4 or 5 different songs, and be listening to the same bird. When I was kid, I didn't realize this, but I eventually figured it out by observing robbins (they're quite common on Long Island), and I noticed that robbins have at least 4 or 5 different songs. Song sparrows are also common here, but, for whatever reason, they seem to be hiding whenever they sing (possibly because of their smaller size), so I wasn't as sure about the song and visual association. This video solved that problem. The songs this bird is singing on this video are songs I'm quite familiar with- I hear them all the time; have suspected they were from sparrows, and now I know they ARE- thanks!.
I fed this bird over the winter. She has a nest near where I fed her now. I love her voice
That is an adult male, singing on territory.
My dad and I actually saved a song sparrow trapped in our deer net. It was tangled inside who knows how. I remember me holding it by it's feet with my fingers and my dad carefully cutting it away from the net. Afterward, instead of flying away, it stuck with us, atop my dad's finger. He said I could keep the bird if I found a big enough box. My family recycles a lot so there wasn't a big enough box so we let the bird go free. I remember when my dad held it to the ground so it could run off but instead it stayed on his finger. It even went on my finger and let us pet it. That bird was a song sparrow. I saved that Song Sparrow song 2 or 3 years ago (probably 2), but I still hear it's call. I wonder if that bird's offspring is calling me.
Quel bonheur d’entendre ce chant de moineau chanteur ET de vous lire!
Thank you
I’m so happy you set it free! It more than likely had a mate waiting for it. Happy ending 💗
you should get rid of that net.
@@patricias5122 Yeah it has been replaced with a metal net that birds don’t get caught in anymore!
Damn 3 years ago and I responded so quickly 😎
Such a quirky song! These birds make me giggle. It sounds like a Bronx cheer in the middle.
This is the song of Spring along with the American Robin that lets us know Spring is coming soon!
I’m in Washington now but I miss the sound of mockingbirds I grew up hearing in the SF Bay Area. I heard them again when I was in Florida.
Thank you for producing this video. Sparrows are greatly overlooked in the bird world. There are many kinds and some are very interesting.
I agree! I love these feathery little beasts! 😍
I love it every morning they come on my window and sing i can see them really close it's amazing
I'm lucky :)
In the background you can hear a mourning dove.
I hear an owl. Or what I always thought was an owl. My whole life I thought that was an owl.
There's a yellow warbler in there, too :)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I had one in my yard this morning singing happily and it made me happy. Couldn't think of what it was called so this video solved that mystery for me. Thanks!
So grateful that God made such beautiful creatures. Thank you for sharing.
This bird is awesome, these songs bring back lots of nostalgia
After the Recent Thunderstorms/Tornadoes came; The next Morning the First thing I saw and heard was two sparrows singing to each other in my backyard. I took it as a lesson to be Grateful that the same God that watched over those two sparrows had protected us. Matthew 10:29-31, John 3:16 Thank you for posting.
Singing a blessing for our Creator
oh so THESE are the birds i hear when i wake up in the morning. i’ve always loved laying in bed and just listening to them for a few minutes before i get up :)
Such an awesome pretty animal. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video 😍😍
Same exact song in California, and I now live in Utah and hear them here as well. So wonderful to hear my little familiar friends!
Shout out to the bird who woke me up too early.
A Simpleton :I haha
Too funny 😹
Here to make this same reply
I get up when it's still dark. Who's SINGING? American Robins, White - throated Sparrows, Northern_Cardinals, Song Sparrows, Northern Mockingbirds and Brown headed Cowbirds and Carolina Wrens
Same here lol
My favorite backyard songbird! We always leave millet on our deck for them.
I played this video in my garden and a song sparrow come in aggressively to see who was invading his territory!
The singer at second 53 faces into the wind with such dignity and such a passionate heart, that she makes the lead female at the bow of the Titanic in the movie of that name, PALE in comparison! (Either that, or I'm a hopeless bird nerd!)
Love their little songs, I never knew who was doing this, thank u
What a very peaceful sound ......
Them and black cap chickadees wake me up every morning. I love waking up to nature sounds. Makes my day.
Very beautiful video! I really enjoyed watching it!
Hi Lang, I played your song sparrow video in my back yard this morning just to see if my local sparrows would react. wow , they really put on a show searching desperately for the anonymous sparrow! Thanks for the upload😃
Me too!
I heard sparrows come to announce someone's death, specially if you make eye contact with them
This just happen to me crazy observation
What a great idea, I'm going to try this.
@@annebuus3409 actually not great idea. Birds waste energy looking for nonexistant intruder/partner. They need to talk to each other, not our phones.
Such sweet songs. Little morning sparrows songs I will take any day. And I get excited when I hear my 10 am hummingbird songs.
Lol... don't wish for a Mockingbird at 3am. 😂
Love this little guy. He always reminds me of early spring.
Now I know what bird makes that sound. I have been hearing it for year out in the country. The sound of the song sparrow reminds me of my Grandpa Williams. He had a farm out in the country. The call of the bird brings back memories of the farm life etc....
This is the song of joy to me - the song I heard on very early summer mornings when I was a child. Did you know they have different accents? The Cornell Lab's recording is from Corvallis, OR and it's pretty much exactly the same as I remember - but not exactly the same as this one. Check it out!
Same
Wonderful video about the birds .
I wrote a song about a Robin.
THE ROBIN FLEW AWAY (C)2006
Hello, from just north of Toronto, 2nd day of May 2020. Over the past few days, I've seen a couple of these birds. They must be flying through from somewhere as they are not here any other time of year. Only in the spring, at my bird feeder. I could not quite place the song, when I heard it in our yard, but here it is. Thank you. Oh I saw 2 birds.
Finally figured out which bird this was. Been hearing them my entire life here in Washington State, ranks right up there with the Swainsons Thrush! I used to think it was the same bird doing 2 different songs!
This is a fabulous video. Much more helpful in identifying song sparrows that my wildlife book was!
there's this same bird that's been sitting in the same spot on one of the wires in the yard for the past three days, singing the same lovely song early in the morning. glad to know it's a song sparrow-their song is easily the best in my area
Un petit Bonheur Merci Magnifique !!! Jai la chance d`avoir un couple ici
un Pure Bonheur de les entendres chanter et de les Revoir à chaque printemps au même buisson Magique il son ... JAIME les Bruants Chanteur
What kind of video camera do you have. The images are all so close up and clear. Beautiful!
This just made my morning. I also opened my window for the songs & calls of this fellow to attract my wild ones into my front yard. Lovely. Thank you so much for sharing. I loved the morning doves in the background too.
There is a single song Sparrow where I work and the poor little guy is the only one that ever sings his song so I started playing this video and he gets so happy I play it every time I'm on my lunch
Thank you so much for posting this video. We just found a very very small chick sparrow in our patio who can’t fly yet , So we kept in inside to save it from foxes and cats for few days. This video is keeping it company and it’s responding to it !!! Thank you
Perfect photography! You can see every feather! Sweet little songbirds.
This is the only video I found that has the cute ending to its song...scores ski. Does that 3 times. That’s how identified it for sure. Thanks.
This is just awesome: to both hear the bird call and see such excellent video of the bird making the call.
I finally have these little guys in my yard!
They were here about 6 weeks ago but disappeared.... now they're back.
NE Ohio.
I cant believe how fast their beak moves
I loved watching them sing away.
There are probably hundreds in our neighborhood. I love hearing them sing in the early mornings of spring.
This has amazing clarity both in picture and sound!
Finally, I have a name for these very vocal birds. I have song sparrows nesting in a tree right next to my home. They are up EARLY too!
Hi from Istanbul 😊 so peaceful 😌
💕💞💓🥰 it's amazing how a little cute critter can sing at all.💕💞💓
Yes I’m here because my camp name is Sparrow. Yes I am very pleased with that name.
These birds are very adorable.
I have saved a little sparrow, that had a broken leg,and i still have him one year now.he eats bugs and wet cat food.😊
Thanks I have tons of these little guys in my neighborhood but I haven't been able to ID them till i found your video :)
Beautiful, LIVE videos. Thank you!
Pretty nice, really especially pigeons calls. I Love listening to them all the time.. those tiny jets flying by every once in awhile tho. 😄👌🏻
Thank you for sharing! Great video. They’re definitely beautiful singers
Thank you for this priceless video. I love these little guys!
Wow, amazing quality and footage!
there is a tiny flock of birds who live in the bush outside my window. My Parakeet, Milo, loves them. I open the window (theres a screen still so he wont fly out and bugs wont get in) so he can hear them and sing to them! I previously thought they were female house finches as they look similar to song sparrows, but i have finally found what they are!
I didn't know we had song sparrows!
Some of the best bird videos I've seen - thank you!
We have song sparrows but my husband likes to call them “fancy feathers”. 😂
Lol
Thanks for the beautiful contribution! Lovely cinematography.
awesome video
Lang Elliott...THANK you! Love love love it! Perfection in every way.
Im playing this to my rescued new friend :))
Thank you for this beautiful video. I also appreciate the morning dove.
absolutely beautiful bird and very nice video....thanks!
Excellent and amazing video. I loved it.
Played this and my cat sat up and looked around.
Fantastic video and quality! :)
We sat beside you, Lang Elliott, at Hollis Taylor's talk at Cornell a few years ago. I wrote "BirdTalk."
Birds make the Best music.
His Eyeeeeeeee is on this spaaaaaaaroooooooow❤
We have such a wonderful planet to live on, it's a shame man is destroying it. ☢☣😢
Thank you birdie and Lang Elliott!
Love this - thank you!!
❤️ Sparrow ❤️😘
Beautiful!! I'm pretty surethe Song Sparrow is an actual native American Sparrow :) ! Love this sweet lovely little bird and always loved the human English translations of his call such as
" Chip! Chip! Chip! Chareeee boys!! Springs here!"!!! :)
Beautiful
Your photography is absolutely beautiful. Just tops. Thank you!
Thank you YVO
Thank you for your recordings. I heard a call today and thought it might be the sparrow I had seen. Its great to have the visual and audio together. I am more a visual learner.
Lang Elliot He is the bird master videographer
We them on the west coast too. (British Columbia, Canada).
Just saw and heard one in the park, such a loud and pretty song! Thank you for this video, confirmed this was indeed a tiny sparrow. Lovely
