  • 700R4 TV cable adjustment. This is critical to getting set correctly so your transmission does not burn up, and also so it shifts at the proper time. If the cable is too tight, then the transmission shifts super hard all the time, and will not shift correctly on WOT passes. If the cable is too loose, then the transmission burns up. Here is how you set it, it's pretty easy but if you feel uncomfortable make sure you visit a professional transmission shop.

TCI makes a constant pressure valve body that eliminates the need for the TV cable. They work really well

Man, that takes me way back... I was working in a GM assembly plant until 1998. We built hundreds of those transmissions every day! The corvettes got the hi performance parts.

What type of stall converter did ya'll use for the 1987 C4 Corvette 700r4 automatic transmission? I had my transmission rebuilt and it doesn't shift like it did before it was rebuilt.....The car doesn't feel sporty anymore....the car drives like a basic low powered sedan😮

@@TheBlkac1there are two 700r4 rebuild kits. One for vettes, and the other for everything else. Might have got the general non-Vette kit. It does happen. The torque converters that work best for our cars are 2400 rpm stall converters. Crank your fuel pressure up to 45/48psi and it’ll be plenty of fun with the stock tune

@@johnbrentonlll How do you increase the fuel pressure? With an aftermarket regulator?

I had no idea you had a Vette!? Thought you were strictly a Ford guy outside of the engine in the mustang. But when I baught my Camaro, someone had already done the R4 swap on it, and the TV cable wasn't hooked up at all and I didn't have a clue about those back then. Anyways I drove it quite a bit like that, you literally had to let off the gas and manually shift it to get it to shift like a 4sp manual trans. Then I got to looking into them and discovered the issue, but it survived! It's been a great transmission and has taken some power! But it's a "built" 700R4 , built by Transco out of Florida. It has taken a big block on nitrous and a couple healthy small blocks, still going. I was really worried after reading how weak they are, "built outta glass" I read, but it's still going 20yrs later!!

If your car came with the 700r4 hold button wide open throttle release at least that's what I've heard on my camaro it came with it I did the wide open throttle method and it shifts smooth now but still need to fine tune it cause it feels like it shifts smooth but early hard to tell since my speedometer and tach don't work

My Caprice 700r won’t shift into 3rd gear all of a sudden. Could this be the issue?

If you forget to hook up the tv cable after a rebuild, you'll be rebuiling it again. I know from experience. 😂

Man that’s scary that something so basic can do so much damage if wrong. Kinda like hooking oil lines up wrong 😬 🫢🫣
