  • Ok, I had another drivetrain malfunction. While sitting at Lowes I tried the car after 2 separate 30 minute waits. No luck. My wife came and jumped me off, so I think the battery could have been low again? We revved up the engines to get more voltage. Not sure. About 20 minutes earlier I topped off a quarter tank of Shell 93 octane fuel, with Chevron 93 octane fuel. Interesting.
I got home and fired up my Autophix OM129 OBD reader. You will see some of the results in this video.
Unfiltered, unedited, of course. and Yes, I am not the most proficient using the OBD scanner looking for Engine Fault Codes. On-Board Diagnostics Tool !
AUTOPHIX OM129 OBD2 Scanner Auto Code Reader Car Diagnostic Scan Tool with Graphing Battery Test for All OBD II Car After 1996 - checking out the BMW Drive Chain Malfunction.
ULL OBD SERVICE MODES SUPPORTED: Locate bad O2 sensor, turn off check engine light, reset monitor, view freeze frame data. The obd2 scanner can quickly read and erase DTC (engine fault codes). Access to emissions readiness status, on-screen DTC definitions, built-in DTC look up library, allow you accurately determine causes of the check engine light, and turn off the MIL(Malfunction Indicator Lamp).advanced On-Board monitoring test and retrieves vehicle information (VIN).
ACCURATE BATTERY CHECK: Gather real time battery voltage, analyze information automatically in no time and display results in graph, instead of a direct result on the screen that an ordinary code reader does, which will ensure that you can access and analyze the accurate live data and determine the battery's health status or expected remaining life. Make you know your battery status in advance.
FAULT CODE DEFINITION: The enhanced fault code definition function helps you fully understand the meaning of the code without any hassle which an ordinary code reader can't do. Pressing the "i" button will give you accurate repair advice instead of a bunch of technical terms you don't understand. It saves you the trips to a mechanic, lets you decide whether it's something you can fix or need more advanced help, save money and time. Printing fault codes with code definitions are also available.

Replaced the high pressure fuel pump. Moving to Shell 93 octane gas. Will see if that helps.

Hey brother. I just stumbled across your video because I also have a drive train malfunction. I discovered what my issue is. Many ppl on FB groups and forums were quick to say it was the fuel pump going bad or this or other. My symptoms were that my car would shut off and give me DTM error fuel supply. Thats what lead me to believe that it was the fuel pump as ppl were telling me. Now if I had replaced the fuel pump I would still have the issue. The fuel pump was not the cause of this for me. I ended up going to BMW to get a diagnostic scan with their software and they let me know that my fuel pump CONTROL MODULE was faulty. They want like $800 parts and labor to fix it. ALso told me they had the last fuel pump control module "in existence". They wouldnt tell me the issue with the module however. I further researched and discoverd that our fuel pump control modules are prone to over heating and thermal shut down. Once they get too hot and shut down the fuel pump stops receiving signals and the car stalls out. Once I discovered that I out 2 and 2 together and realized that sure enough, the car only give me issues with that drive train crap when its very hot out. It never acts up at night or early morning, never when it rains ONLY when its hot as balls out. I see a bunch of replacement modules online. Im making a video on how to DIY replace it and save yourself some cash. I have a channel on BMW specific things. Please consider subscribing to me.
Now as far as your specific issue. I dont think its the same as mine by what Im seeing here in your video. Your voltage isnt increasing when the vehicle is on. Thats an alternator issue because the alternators function is to provide power to vehicle electronics and accessories while providing a charge for the battery. Its supposed to turn on when the car turns on. When your car starts the voltage drops a bit and then it rested in the 12.14 area for a while then fluctuated around. Thats not a good sign there. Id check the alternator connections. Be sure theyre all snug and tight. Same with your battery terminals.
Keep in mind. IF your issues were also occuring when it was blistering hot out and you were trying non stop to start the car like I was. That drains the battery down alot.. I noticed one night after my car acting up that the charge battery light was on. So that can be why your battery is having issues. geniusautosecurity@gmail.com is my email I may be able to help you out. I subscribed to your channel.

@@StuffYouShouldKnow1 much appreciated bro. The reason for me that it takes the car about 20 to 30 minutes or even an hour at times to start again is because the module is cooling down. Oh quick tip that works for me. Whenever it happens, to avoid having to wait til it cools down I force reset it by disconnecting the negative battery terminal.. She fires right up after that. I drive around wit a 1omm socket and ratchet in the trunk just in case.

@@StuffYouShouldKnow1 Im actually perusing forums and videos such as yours to compile a list of possible cause for drive train malfunctions. Its such a general error message but for some of us it can leave us stranded. Very annoying. Highly embarrassing if you have passengers. $60k cars have some verve acting like this. Loll
