    Hi Nikki, I am a retired middle school teacher and I live on the east coast of Canada. When I retired I felt a little lost with so much time on my hands but since then I have been enjoying sewing and quilting so much ! I have learned so much from your videos ! Mostly about sewing tips and tricks but more importantly about giving myself grace and just having fun! No more "grading" my work. Even though my houses aren't wonky enough and my machine quilting lines sometimes cross when they aren't supposed to I think I'm proud of what I have accomplished. Thanks to you, my favorite youtube teacher.

    I love listening to you. You’ve taught me a lot in a short time and gave me confidence to begin sewing in my retirement. I began making pot holders and casserole pads using duck cloth and repurposing old jeans. Now my friend is teaching me to quilt! Your faith is clear to me which makes your instructions more valuable. Thank you sis!

I wanted to say that I feel like you being so honest with your viewers about everything especially your faith and how you rely on it so completely. You are very inspiring with your ideas, your thoughts, and you're open heart. I appreciate this video very much because it makes me feel like I am not alone. Your advice on how to not go to sleep with anger in your heart, is such a huge piece of advice! The way you handle your negative emotions and how you release them is such an awesome way to deal with these issues. I think you're being willing to be so open and honest about that is also inspiring. You are just an inspiring person and a breath of fresh air. Thank you for all you have done to reach your 100,000 subscribers! And thank you to Layla for her awesome editing skills. Have a very blessed day!!

    Hi Nikki! Congratulations on hitting this milestone! I discovered your channel a few months ago and I can't tell you how much you've helped me wrap my brain around quilting and getting over perfectionism. My grandmother was a master quilter - one of her quilts won the Louisiana State Fair about 30 years ago. I can remember watching her quilt and thinking that I could NEVER do something like that. But, doing large stitch quilting is something that I'm rather enjoying and watching you make up that house/neighborhood quilt was AMAZING! Free style quilting is definitely in my wheelhouse and you make it seem fun and completely doable! Thank you!

    I have a small notebook where i list all my projects and what i may need to finish it (so i can justify buying something to finish it). Every Jan 1st, i go thru and cross off what i finished, so liberating. And add in the new stuff...
    And i only work on one thing, from start to finish. Less stressful, can always find my supplies for it.
    I can make draperies lined with blackout, waaaay cheaper than buying!?
    And i buy batting by the roll at Cmas time, 20yds for $60 = $7/per quilt.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  7 месяцев назад

    Think the EPP question is about basting the fabric on the hexie. I’ve used glue, sew basting through the template and tack stitching the fabric only. I settled on tack stitching around the fabric only. I’d suggest making 3 flower hexies trying each method. You will find the method you prefer once you experience shaping the fabric, stitching the hexies together and removing the paper template.

    Two years ago I made a list of my UFO's. There were 26. There are now 14. I try to not allow myself to start a new project unless I have finished two from that list. Any new project (NOT including charity work) goes on the list. The goal is to get it down to a rolling five or six projects - I will never be ONLY the current ONE project. This list includes ALL types of crafting (knitting, crochet, cross stitch, needlepoint, etc.). I also try to not buy new fabric unless it is to go with something I already have (I fail on this FREQUENTLY). I do have a ton of "kitted" projects but do not count them unless I have cut the fabric. I often will offer a fiend the opportunity to peruse my stash and choose a quilt for me to make. I also intersperse small projects that don't do on the list - like the two Hemmingway pouches I will be making for a granddaughter. I love variety and, as you say, I get better with practice.

    I use patterns, especially RUclips videos, as inspiration, help with color selection, combinations, accents etc. I have a number of patterns from my early years that are sometimes invaluable. Surprisingly old construction techniques are helpful in catching on to the newer methods. Don’t Pooh-Pooh patterns because you can learn a lot from them and still make something new and modern.

I stumbled upon your bib tutorial while you were in Hawaii & again found your QAYG Bibs while I embroidered burp diapers - loved your info on making a business out of sewing & your honesty. Am currently binging through your tutorials. FYI: try the magic pins - they are thin, bite thru fabric easily & thin enough that you can sew while they are in place plus you can iron on them. And a quilters select ruler is life changing- doesn’t move!

    Congrats on your amazing RUclips milestone!!! 🍾🥳🎉 Have loved watching your channel for the past 4 years when I was getting into quilting. Got back into sewing by making quilts, some improve, for a children's charity. Now, I'm more into garment sewing, but have remained subscribed to your channel. Bought your pattern for dolls, which is on my bucket list of future makes. Would also like my hand at making a wonky house quilt also. 🥰 Planning on eventually starting a YT channel for general sewing projects, but when that starts is TBD. In the process of preparing a big retirement move cross-country and sewing has been put aside until afterward. Was very helpful to know about the size of your sewing space, how you store your fabric, hearing about your filming equipment, and such. Anyway, thank you for all your very fun and informative videos! Have really enjoyed all of them. ❤

    The white fabric can be identified with a small black light. This works well when it’s a white on white fabric If the light shows no pattern it’s the back. I got mine on Amazon. It was not very expensive at all. TFS love the q and a. Congrats on 100k.

    I haven’t read all the comments so it may already have been mentioned, but when working with white on white patterned fabrics use a small black light (found on Amazon). The side with the pattern really shows up with the black light. I just started using this and I LOVE it.

    If you hold the white on white fabric up close to a lamp, it is much easier to tell the right side from the wrong side.
