Though the story is biased against modern women, Kashaf is a character that makes choices and lives by them due to her own reasons and stands up for herself in every possible way. What a character arc she has. Though it is her situation that force her to marry Zaroon, she finds him to be what she needed and missed in life and finds her happiness with him. The only conflicting reality is that men like zaroon who are misogynistic by nature act the same way with wife and daughters. They expect the wife to be subservient to them, not sure how long a self respecting woman would tolerate that in reality. -- Perhaps this would be the conundrum had there been a sequel to the drama.
Umera Ahmed's dramas have this recurring them of showing a good and a bad woman, one that is marriage material and the other which isn't good enough to be wife
It's not like that. Umera Ahmed herself a woman. She has never shown woman as a marriage material. Kashaf herself doesn't want to marry in this drama. Plus this is what happens in reality. Most of her dramas are actually based on her novels. She has always shown strong, independent woman. In this drama also kashaf was a CSS officer , she was not a house wife. Being feminist doesn't mean that you should not follow the path of humanity. She never shows woman as a marriage material. She always shows independent woman with moral values.
Plus The novel " Zindagi Gulzar hai". Was written and published in 1996. And the drama was made much later. At that time the focus was not feminism but strong and independent woman with high moral values.

It's been a while since I watched but the way zaroon showcases double standards and still expects unflinching loyalty and care from his mother and wife is baffling to me. I can understand the choices made by Kashaf, in fact I love her in so many ways. But the drama demeans Zaroons mother, sister and that other girl for being modern. Shows them as immoral and selfish women. I believe that's wrong. If zaroon felt lonely in his own home due to the unavailability of his mother, his father is also responsible for it. But he's never blamed for it. Her sister is divorced for being modern and same happens with the girlfriend. I say double standards. The devil is in the details if you watch it.
