OK this is wonderful. So simple, obvious and smart. Amazing how they used basics like this to engineer these incredible attractions. Matterhorn is such a complex ride and structure - to think of this being built in the 50s is incredible.

It's amazing how things were done back in the 50s. From filming to testing rollercoaster speeds, it's impressive how far we've evolved. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic video!

Correction - it’s May 1959! Not May 1958. The Viewliner shuttered September 30, 1958. Clearing of the whole area commenced in October.

We are working with a Disney history expert to ID the folks on the platform, but they do not believe it’s Walt. They DO however, believe we see Disney Legend, Admiral Joe Fowler.

Matterhorn Bobsleds Top Speed: 27mph.
1958 Video: 47mph!!
Being for real though, I have recorded the speeds of the Matterhorn today and both sides reach up to 33mph top speed.
