  • Some hackers managed a hit on Caesars Palace and Harrah’s, causing many customers to have their driver’s license and social security information stolen. At MGM properties, hackers reportedly froze slot machine screens and ATMs, including at the Bellagio and MGM Grand. CNN’s Jon Sarlin and former general counsel at National Security Agency Glenn Gerstell discuss with Jim Acosta. #CNN #News

      That's the only way to win in Vegas, to not play at all. I've been to Vegas several times for bachelors parties and the few times I won at blackjack I've lost at Pai Gao poker (never could figure out the rules). Once I hit the same number at the spin the vertical wheel (not roulette, but the vertical one) and won 40:1 I think it was, but I lost it later that night. You can't win in Vegas and if you do win a lot, as once happened to me when playing blackjack, a big goon shows up and stands right next to you to intimidate you in case you are card counter or some kind of cheater.

      Especially when something like in house IT is essentially an insurance expense - it might cost a little more, but cutting that cost increases their exposure to catastrophic losses. These casinos would lose about $1m every hour in lost revenue and likely around $500k in non-gambling expenses (employees, equipment, utilities, subleases, etc) so every hour they're losing like $1.5m... Every hour could pay the difference in savings if they had in house IT 😏

    • @jont2576
      @jont2576 8 месяцев назад +2

      I'm pretty sure the casinos will go to any lengths to make sure no one fks with their dough.Considering how much money is in the industry.
      I mean if u think about it just how much effort they dedicate to regular security in their casinos.....this is an industry that has been dealing with people trying to steal from them since the beginning of time with varying techniques and more and more sophistication.
      I'm pretty sure the slot machines aren't connected to the internet and are isolated in itself or at most on a lan network.
      I'm only surprised they didn't find the hacker and have each and every one of his fingers smashed with a ball peen hammer.

      Yeah, now imagine the power grid and dams running on systems where the passwords were "password" or "admin," etc. cuz that was actually the case not too long ago. I wish I was kidding, but that was a very real thing just a few years ago until the right people opened their eyes.
      Now, they actually offer bounties to hackers, and if they can show these big companies their vulnerabilities, they will pay them good money for it. WW3 will be heavily influenced by cyber attacks, so it's high time that everyone starts taking cyber security a lot more seriously.
      Whats really crazy is that there are hackers out there who can do some pretty serious damage, and all it takes is for them to get bored one day to do it. A bored hacker is a very dangerous scenario. What's more dangerous are hackers who are trained by our enemies and do what they do because it's their job or "duty." Sh*t can get real really fast.

    Everything inside that building should be on it's own network with no access from the outside. When are people going to learn? You can setup your own network and run it within the building. You then manually copy and move files like updates over to that system with external drives after doing checks on the files being moved over. There is no excuse to have everything connected to the internet where 1000's are out there trying to break into other peoples networks. If you make it hard to get in, someone will always be able to break the lock....so remove the door.

    WRONG!! I work in IT at a major casino and just because you see blank screens does not mean the machines are hacked. Blank screens mean its just taken out of service.

      @@IamShanee I'm referring to the footage in the beginning of this video where the games have blank screens. The hackers did not hack a single game. They stole customer info, which is why the ransom was paid. Not a single game was "hacked" despite the footage at the beginning of CNN's video. Watch it again.
