Aside from being one of the great jazz guitarists of this generation, George is also a terrific roller skater as well. The song was written by Rod Temperton, and the song has his familiar chorus usage, who also wrote "Thriller" and "Off The Wall" for Michael Jackson as well as "Boogie Nights", "The Groove Line", and "Always and Forever" for Heatwave,
Heatwave's The Groove Line is one of the greatest and funkiest disco songs of all time! 😃 I hope someone requests it, particularly the 7:30 extended version.
"Give Me the Night" was a top ten hit for George Benson in 1980. It was produced by Quincy Jones and features Patti Austin on backing vocals, Herbie Hancock on piano, and Lee Ritenour on guitar. When you're ready for more from George Benson, check out "On Broadway" from his 1978 live album Weekend in L.A., a song in which he shows off his ability to scat sing the same lead lines he plays on guitar.
Lee is a badass guitar player in his own right (insert 1981's "Is It You" here) -- you gotta be damn good if George requests you to be a contributor given George's amazing guitar talents.
@@PjRjHjthat was Louis? Well that makes sense considering he was a Quincy Artist. But after listening to it..yeah that was Louis Johnson..similar to get the funk out my face beat.
😂 that tickled me too. She really nailed the vibe of the song with that phrase. Add it to the list of the other on point "Empress-isms" that pop up in her videos. 😆
Empress so glad you did George Benson! Please do Turn Your Love Around💖.. that one's got to be one of my go-to's as well! you know when I just wanna move to that beat n groove ..in a disco kind of way!😆👍🏼..yea let's go!
George was a respected jazz musician before he become mainstream. Please do more songs . They are all classic. I would recommend Turn your love around.
I Love this Song! Makes Me Feel Good every time I Hear it. I Remember while Growing Up it was a Weekend and My Dad & His Friend was Outside just talking and I happened to walk out there. They were Listening to 70s & 80s stuff and this happened to come on. I said He Remembered when it First came out He was in California in the Marines 1980.
And this great album was produced by Qunicy Jones, who produced most of Michael Jackson's solo hits, many of which were written or co-written by Rod Temperton. The background singers were ones QuincyJones used all the time, one of whom was the amazing Patti Austin, who stands out here.
I learned about Benson, from my first husband. He was a student at the Berklee college of music and played guitar. He loved him so much, and so do I. He's a serious jazz musician. Great player and vocalist. This is pop- junk he had to do to stay relevant. Wes Montgomery was his biggest influence (George) . As usual, a great reaction. XO
Happy Wednesday homie! This is a true story that I've found out couple years ago that George Benson, who is from the city I've grown to hate since I was born Pittsburgh, different story different time, was staying with my late grandfather back in the days. I didn't asked my mom when but I'm assuming that he was staying with my granddad around the 60s when George was putting out jazz albums before he became huge.
Oh my god I love Pittsburgh, it’s so much a better city now than the one I left in 1996 to move to California with a bunch of ex Pghers. We love going home. Any time but Jan or Feb 🤷🏽
This song was George Benson's biggest r&b crossover hit ever!!! During the summer of 1980, the song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Soul chart. What a banger song indeed!!!

Ya no doubt created alot of good beats but zero respect for that loser
Good memories, Empress! Me and a bunch of friends going out for dancing in those late 70’s nights! 💃🕺
Love George Benson and an amazing song.
My all time favorite disco song. Never will get any better.
This was an international hit. Top ten across North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand etc
I've always loved those backup gals too! One of the best parts in a song full of amazing parts!
🔥🔥
Patti Austin

This has that special Rod Temperton musical style. What an amazing writer he was.
Heatwave's The Groove Line is one of the greatest and funkiest disco songs of all time! 😃 I hope someone requests it, particularly the 7:30 extended version.
If she played the video instead she would have seen how great of a skater he is.
🔥
Don’t forget Patti Austin on the female vocals and Lee Ritenhour on the famous guitar riff.
This is a real classic. Randy Crawford does a nice chillout version of this song.
Gotta check it

Screams the brilliant Quincy Jones producer in the 80s..very MJ vibes!!
