The fact that this was the fucking jets vs giants is pure perfection. Also my guy Herbert showing up in a rare plays video was neat! I checked out of that game so fast so I didn’t even notice 😂
Close. Right play, wrong dumbefcation. It was sending Ricardo Lockette out on the pattern while wearing a dress. On the most important play of his entire life, as well as his teammates.
It was a great play call. Very bad execution and end result. Patriots had 0-coverage so all receivers were on man coverage with no players helping deep. Successful pass? Everyone would be raving about how great that call was. "Patriots went all in to stop the run and they passed for TD!!!" Incomplete pass? It would have been just a "gutsy call" by coach, trying to pass when defense sent the house to stop the run. They still had two plays to go. Then just run on the next play.
When the chains are set, the chain clip is clipped on the back side of the next solid line, which is the 50-yard line. There is a piece of tape that shows the middle of the chain. The front edge of the ball is touching the 50-yard line, which needs to flip to the other side. Even if the chain stakes are on the 45-yard lines, it still has to change places because the chain clip has to be on the back side of the 50-yard line going the other way. If you need more information, send me a message.
I was never going to think of such a scenario before you introduced this. But when you started off with 1994, I immediately thought of a Rams Saints game. The Saints punt the ball, it bounces into the end zone, takes a miraculous bounce just before the end line and stays in the field. All the players (and the broadcast crew) turn their attention elsewhere to switch units. All except for Robert Bailey who races over, grabs the ball, and goes 100+ yards for a TD unopposed. They changed the rules soon after where a punted ball is immediately declared dead if it bounces in the end zone. So this play can NEVER happen again. Here's the play. ruclips.net/video/r6yoJssvy-Y/видео.htmlsi=H4e5KcuR4t8Ih3ZG
You know what's going to happen now 5? Someone from the KC organization is going to see this and use their devil magic not only to 3-peat but be the first team in SB history to accomplish an absolutely perfect Flip-N-Sip.
I have seen (in the NFL, before I abandoned it, or they me, in 2020) the refs simply turn the ball backwards, flipping the nose, on the 50 during a quarter change. I imagine this has been quite a frequent event. But the reason I don't have the biggest balled channel on those interwebs is because I have never, never paid attention to the chains, whether they ran 45-45 or anything else. There are men, and there are the rest of us.
As to the play search, how about "5 or less results" minus everything in the "4 or less results". There is one deadly catch, though - you need "5 and 0 inches". Unfortunately stats don't record 4th and 2 inches to go. Or a 2 inch touchdown run. Even though everyone knows it is the dingaling size of Ricardo Lockette.
Yo @fivepoints, I hate to be a downer, but someone from the chain gang would have to grab the big orange arrow and move it to the other end of the chain.
This is awesome... What an amazingly awesome waste of time and brain energy. I needed this today for reasons I shant explain, but know they are significant. THANK YOU 5 POINTS ... Love you love your show. You're better than Perna even if your team is not.

I'm sure someone more bored than I can search for instances in MLB when the score was full of 2's. 2nd inning, bottom half of the inning, 2 outs, score 2-2, count 2-2, 2 men on (1st and 2nd) ...hell why not make it the #2 hitter up to bat
Back when I officiated HS football, this happened to me -- TWICE IN THE SAME GAME! Yes, you read that right. It happened twice. Both the 1st and 3rd quarters ended with the ball on the 50, something I had told the chain crew before the game was never going to happen. The only difference between my situation and the one you call out here is that in both of my quarter-enders, it was 1st and 10, so the chains did have to flip, but the down indicator stayed put. For the rest of my officiating career, it never happened again.
This video is fucking awesome. Such a creative concept I never even thought of. A+ content right here, great fucking video man. Its giving me Scorigami vibes
The 50 flipper happened to me this past year in a high school game in Georgia. In our association the deep judge on that sideline is responsible for the flip instead of the short wing. For my particular situation, it was the second quarter of the game. 2nd and 5 from the 50. I didn’t have to move the chains at all, the down box moved maybe 3 inches from one side of the line to the other and the ball went from one hash to the other, but my job was easy 😂 second half I’m on the home side so that meant I didn’t have to do anything at the end of the third quarter either.
Adam this was a really good video. Your sense of humor is great as always. I really enjoy the format of your content. You need more subs dude. Also the Giants are cooler than the jets ... Just saying.
10:23 "are you willing to go through every old box score, and every old reel of old footage...." Well, since there's a lot of people that's going to Skip watching the Super Bowl, one can do this football-related thing instead....😉
I was on the chain gang for one of my son's football games this year and this happened. I knew at the time that it had to be pretty rare but I did not expect it to be that rare!
Should call the play a "5.0 Turn n' Burn" in your honor. Just a thought. Also you looked like Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez from Sandlot when you were a kid.
it would be the quarter expires while they are lined up on the 50. like they try to draw them offsides but on the 50 with 5 to go. I can't imagine that has ever happened
Don’t the chains set up for ten yards? What I mean is any series that starts on the 45 will end at the opposite 45, so it doesn’t matter if the quarter ends and it’s 2nd and eight or 3rd and two, the chains are still going to be 45 to 45 and they won’t have to flip. The 5 yards for a 1st only really affects the down marker guy.
i propose a playu so rare it has never happend, the 1 point saftey. on an extra point attempt is a team blocks the kick and takes it to the one the fumbles in the endzone, if the kicking team recovers and is downed then the defgending team would get a 1 point saftey. so much incompetence would need to happen for this to bless our world
No, if the ball is on the 1-yard line, the chain gang only have to go 98 yards, because the difference between the field and midfield is 49 yards multiplied by 2. Imagine if the field is measured as whole 100, and you are on the one, going to the other side one yard line, would take you 98 yard, if you did walk 99 yards, you would be at the end-zone line. *Face Palm*

You watch, the flip and sip will happen in Super Bowl LIX.
I thought that was a mcnabb jersey behind you 😂
I thought that one side of the chain gang always was the “downfield” side so at minimum they need to move ten yards and switch places
The blue line marks the nose of the football so I imagine the center of the football is right on the 50.
Can you rank the best soundbites in the NFL?
Would a brett farve interception be the opposite of this play?
Beautiful
If the ball was at the 1-yard line at the end of a quarter they’d only have to move the chains 98 yards.
