When I first started smallie fishing I used wacky rig everywhere and caught a 17 inch smallie in shallow water up at cedar creek, now I use a ned rig all the time and usually pull 3 or more when I go
Niiice! Even tho I consider myself a finesse fisherman, the river this year has been muddy so often all I really get done is power fishin. I will definitely be throwing the wacky rig more in the future to really get the technique down! Thanks for watching!!!
Hey that was a good video. It’s the way we fished when we were kids. Trekking through the brush, walking in the water with our tennis shoes and, going where nobody goes. Hardcore dude. “This is the End” was the first video of yours I’ve and I hope it’s not the last.
Just a helper...low water...4" black/purple flake"Real" Senko...no weight...o ring...weedless #2 Gamagatzu. Youll get 5-10 fish per bait w this rig. 😊 Let it sink...then start to pop. Repeating. Fush on! Hope this helps! The Gospel of John as. Jesus, leads...❤
Absolutely! 1/4oz joes flies are 🔥🔥🔥 I used to throw them all the time for trout and would catch nice smallies too! I guess you could say I have moved on from spinners cause it usually catches smaller fish compared to other baits. Not saying you can't catch giants on them, it's just less of a chance in my opinion. Thanks for watchin!
Nice job! I've caught more smallmouth in the rivers on a wacky rigged senko than any other bait. Usually fish it weightless on a size 1 dropshot hook, but will sometimes use a 1/16 oz wacky jighead. Almost always use fluorocarbon because it sinks better, and just let the bait bounce along the bottom with the current. Bites can be hard to determine. Usually the line just stops, and they start swimming with it.
Thanks Joe! That wacky rig definitely works! Thanks for the tips! I'm sure the wacky rig will be making an appearance in the future once I get the details of the rig figured out. Thanks for watchin Joe!
Most of my best days have come from fishing a senko but i almost never use them. Lol. Id rather power fish. I mostly use the Berkley General. I also use a thin piece of shrink tube (black or clear) and thread the hook right through the middle. When it starts to wear out i rotate the senko a bit. My best day so far was 19 largies on one senko. It was looking rough but was still catching fish. Unfortunately i had to leave so i wasnt able to see just how many i could catch before it was trashed.
I'm in a similar boat, I have grown into power fishing mostly. Especially when I'm on a kayak, bank fishing is a little different tho. The heat shrink is a good idea! Insane to think you managed 19 on 1 senko!!! Someone else mentioned a milkshake straw, but hest shrink comes in my colors! Thanks for watchin man!!!
Finding the spots and what to use is part of the adventure for Wyatt and I. Definitely using your baits has helped us, now if we wouldn’t get so many snags. 😂
Yes!!! Absolutely the adventure is half the fun! I'm glad the baits are helping! My tips for avoiding snags are fairly precise, but I always say let the bait hit bottom but pop it off the bottom, never drag. Alot of people are unaware they are actually dragging their bait on bottom because sometimes just the current will make your bait drag, and that's what causes the snags. When your in current as soon as you hit bottom immediately pop it back up. Another thing that helps is to learn how to snap your line like I do when you get snagged, the beginner version of it is to aim your rod at your snag reel in to make it very tight n then just open your bail and let the line shoot out. Hopefully that helps!!! Thanks for watchin!!!
Nice video! Getting into a 16 for a first time on the wacky worm is a pretty good start. Its defiantly all about the details in fishing. I don't think anyone will ever master them all, but that's what makes it fun and keeps you chasing the next challenge. Thanks for the video Ish!!
Thanks!!! I was very pleased with a 16 for my first wacky fish!!! The more details I learn about fishing, the more I realize how much I don't know about fishing... Thanks for watchin!!!
The only thing that gives me pause about shoving through dense brush like that is accidentally stumbling into a rattlesnake or other venomous snake. Do you see many along the Yough?
I have seen copperheads/timber rattle snakes from time to time. I do not see many at all, but it doesn't mean they aren't there. Usually, I see them where there are bigger rocks and boulders, never seen any in the sandy area, which are usually the areas with this bamboo type stuff. So, to me, sandy/bamboo areas are a safer place to adventure. Thanks for watchin!!!
I deleted my last comment for the confusion. I do look forward to trying some of your baits. I throw the weightless whacky rig with Senkos often. I buy them in the bulk pack of 50 because you lose them like crazy and they don’t hold up well but they work so I keep buying them. I’ve noticed that I have set the hook a little faster on this rig than you typically do to avoid misses and losing baits. I do apologize for seeming like I was hating because that wasn’t the case! Great video and editing is getting crazy good
Yeah, I would like to say about your other comment, that yes, the yough is constantly changing, but it's basically impossible to have a video based on current conditions. I would rather encourage the people watching to learn from what happened in the video and apply that to their fishing..... When necessary.... That is why I so often show river conditions like temperature water flow, water temperature, and water clarity/color. Then you get to see what I did that day to have success. I can't hold everyone's hands. If someone who actually pays attention to my many videos can't catch a smallmouth, there is something severely wrong. I say that because, even being a bait maker? I know the bait you're using has very little effect in comparison to where and what the fish are doing. My videos are highly educational IF people actually pay attention, even tho that is not my main concern. My main concern is entertainment. I would also like to admit that I am quite touchy about my bait business because even with me being pretty popular with the locals.... and I hate to say this but locals make up about 10% of my total sales.... so needless to say my bait business hasn't exactly had a warm welcome with the people in the area... honestly, either Fayette County is completely poor.... OR it's basically Fayette County giving me a huge middle finger... what I am saying is local people... haven't even given my baits a chance and my business has been running for 3 months now...
@@fishinwithish My comment was more directed to anyone struggling to catch fish than it was you just as you said you can’t hold anyone’s hand. You’re having more impact than you think especially on the kids. I have seen more kids running around with baitcasters and trying to throw jerkbaits. I think your local following is a lot of kids and that’s why that’s not translating to sales, but it will eventually. You’re putting smallie fishing on the map locally. Even just last year, I never ran into anyone targeting them specifically. Your videos are different than any others I have found. You have a story line but it’s not corny. You don’t show just your catch with slow, boring music playing in your background putting you to sleep. It is entertaining and educational at the same time. People want instant results but fishing really is a skill and takes practice to get good. Again, no hate at all on what you’re doing just a mix up on my confusing comment.

Great video Ish! You're absolutely right, the devil is in the details. Everything has to come together to be successful. I mean that's why they call it fishing and not catching right? I see a lot of people do well with the wacky rig, but I haven't had much success. I don't fish it often but you did better than me. I did notice the shirt...nice. I didn't think you ever got skunked 😂.
Hahaha I was hoping no one was actually paying attention when I said that🤣🤣🤣 yes I have been skunked before BUT I have had 2 skunk days this year, and those 2 trips were actually only 30 mins of fishing and I'm blaming it on not having enough time🤣🤣🤣 thanks for watchin Chris!!!
Also, I appreciate you giving me your ebay shirt idea. It was a good option, one of the best actually, but me n Tiff was crunching the numbers and figured why not make them ourselves. I figured I'm already making all these baits, why not make t-shirts too 🤣🤣 🤣
Imma try the wacky rig this Thursday 👍🏽 hopefully I can come across a couple fish like those dude, great video dude 👍🏽
Yeah man, It's worth a shot!!! Hope you catch a GIANT!!!! thanks for watchin!!!!
i was just fishing through that area on my bike yesterday, went from smithton to cville and back.
just below Adelaide campground at the little dock,
had a BIG bass smash a no11 jointed rapala on top,
and then jumped 2 feet out of the water to throw the lure back at my head lol on gopro hahaha
Thats a long ride!!! I think I know exactly wher you mean, and last year I definitely lost a giant next to a log right above that little dock area. haha those smallies love to jump!!! Makes me cringe everytime a big one gets a jump in cause I know the chances of it coming off are good!!!! If you recorded it on the gopro you outta put it up on YT!!! Thanks for watchin man!!!!
@@fishinwithish well lol yes and no,its definitely a good distance, but its a dual battery electric cargo bike,so its cheating hahahaha.
@@sammydewitt4498ohhhh ok hahah yeah I'm a cheater too!!!😂😂😂
Another great video Ish. I hope you make a t-shirt with Fishing with Ish on the front and It’s not small on the back. Great to see so many pictures up on your shopify page(including my pike). Thanks for the video.
I absolutely will have a "It's not small" t-shirt!!!! I have a logo already made for it, just waiting on a heat press to come in so I can start making them! I know I have more pictures that people have sent to me, but I kind of lost track of them! Thanks for watchin paul!!!
My search bait and damn near only bait I take is a weightless wacky rig. No o ring. Hook through the bait itself. If u can't catch a fish w that then they ain't bitin
Yeah, I've always gone with paddletails and has served me extremely well, just wanted to try something different. Even with almost everyone using senkos they Def still work! Thanks for the tips.
If it’s not a real senko don’t call it that. It really pisses me off when any plastic worm they call it a senko.
Well, it's a name brand type of thing... Just like Chatterbait or a Creasant wrench, it's technically paying homage to the original creator. You may hate me calling a non senko, a senko but I'm not going to go around calling it a plastic worm.... Honestly Senko people are almost like a cult which is why I stayed away from them and this comment is just further proof of it lol
@@fishinwithish Exactly! I agree with you. It's like calling all hot tubs jacuzzi's or all tissues kleenex etc. I call them senkos even if I'm using a yum dinger. Haha.
@martinharris859 absolutely! 👍👍
