  • Battletech: ProtoMech an uncanny Warmachine
ProtoMechs, a creation of Clan Smoke Jaguar, represent a technological convergence of BattleMechs and Elemental Battle Armor. Conceived as a means to deliver BattleMech firepower with minimal production resources, these compact units stood half the height of their larger counterparts and weighed only one-tenth. Developed in secrecy, ProtoMechs required the integration of cutting-edge technologies, with the Enhanced Imaging (EI) system being a pivotal breakthrough.
The viability of the ProtoMech concept was realized through the development of the EI system by Clan scientists. This neural control system eliminated the need for a gyroscope and full-sized cockpit, paving the way for Smoke Jaguar scientists to control ProtoMechs effectively. Volunteer Aerospace pilots, who had failed Warrior Caste tests, became the unexpected but fortuitous choice due to their small stature and adaptability to the EI system.
    Combat Debut and Acquisition:
ProtoMechs faced their baptism of fire during the Battle of Huntress, revealing their combat effectiveness. Despite Smoke Jaguar Khan Lincoln Osis's initial ignorance of the project, the ProtoMechs performed admirably, prompting other Clans to raid Huntress after the Smoke Jaguar downfall. Clan Coyote and Clan Blood Spirit fervently adopted ProtoMechs, with the Spirits facing resource challenges. The technology spread across Clans, each producing limited numbers based on acquired salvage.
    Design Characteristics:
Weighing between two and fifteen metric tons, ProtoMechs stand four to six meters in height, with fusion engines providing agility between infantry and BattleMechs. Their armor, efficiently designed, rivals light 'Mechs in protection. The direct neural connection between pilot and ProtoMech enhances control, but exposes the pilot to neurologically induced "pain" during combat. The intimate bond fosters a sense of invincibility, potentially leading to a pilot's reluctance to disengage.
    Design Evolution:
ProtoMech designs span multiple generations, each catering to distinct roles based on speed, armor, and equipment. Notable first-generation ProtoMechs include Erinyes, Harpy, and Hydra, while later designs introduced Quadrupedal and Glider ProtoMechs. The Triton, a second-generation ProtoMech introduced by Clan Goliath Scorpion, exemplifies the evolution of design catering to specific roles.
ProtoMechs, an innovative fusion of technology and battlefield strategy, originated with Clan Smoke Jaguar and transformed into a shared asset across Clans. Despite their drawbacks, ProtoMechs offer unique advantages, and their evolution signifies the ongoing development of advanced combat units in the Battletech universe.
    What is a ProtoMech?
Battletech: The ProtoMech Guide should provide basic information about ProtoMech and their role in the Clan Warfare and their Toumans. From their invention by Clan Smoke Jaguar on Huntress. Through their time as Isorla by the other Clans. The complete revolution of ProtoMechs by Clan Blood Spirit. The Wars of Reaving and the uprising of the members of the Scientist Caste, who had formed The Society. All the Way to the IlClan era, when Clan Hell's Horses and Clan Snow Raven crated their very own ProtoMech forces.
As BattleTech, ProtoMech fill a gap in the Clan Toumans between battle armor and light Mechs. Piloted by members with the aerospace fighter phenotype and Enhanced Imaging (EI) systems, they are the latest development of ClanTech and a fearsome sight on the battlefield.

The Clans developed an entirely new technology to come up with an entirely new combat vehicle that was cheaper and less resource-hungry than battlemechs but could effectively support battlemechs on the battlefield.
    The Inner Sphere used tanks.

Tanks cannot block mech movement. Protomechs can. This alone is diabolical and makes Protomechs more than viable. Then there's the "near miss" rule...

It would be great to get a video in possible uses in a game.
Give us noobs on a proper use on this cool niche tool for tabletop play.

They're basically ultra-light mechs. I believe it's in one of the technical manuals that they're actually called that.

    • @AGS363
      @AGS363  Месяц назад +1

      Not quite.
Ultralights are usually between 10t and 20t (so there is some overlap with Ultraheavy Protos).
And like bigger Mechs they use a Gyroscope to keep upright, as well as a normal cockpit (no EI needed).
....but there are of course rumors that some technologies made their way around....

Already exist. Its called Assault battle armor. At that point its a small mech… a reason Proto mechs feel both unnecessary and annoying

Shame there was no dedicated WoB protomech designs, Blake know only knows what --twisted-- blessed Manei Domini designs could have faced spheroid/clanner heathens.
