Driving the Last Cadillac Eldorado, with a $25K Convertible Conversion and Vogue Tires SOLD

- SOLD The twelfth generation Cadillac Eldorado would be the last - a sad testament to a bygone era. Though I'm predisposed to dislike this generation of front drive Cadillacs, I do have to admit that the Eldorado has been a front driver since about 1967 or so, which gives them the claim of historical roots. Truthfully, though, it would have been a front driver nomatter what.
The Eldo, so named in a contest by a young secretary at GM in the early 50s, morphed from a very expensive two and foor door model to a very expensive two door model. Sometime called "the doctor's car," it maintained an elevated position in the Cadillac lineup, often with the most power and equipment on offer. This final generation was no different, getting virtually all of Cadillac's technological goodies, a lot of real wood and bling, and a comparably high price tag. While it's enemy, the Lincoln Mark VIII, and it's cousin, The Buick Riviera, all fell victim to the chopping block, the Eldorado hung on for a few more years before finally being killed in 2002. What a shame.
Full review and test drive by Bill of this 2001 Eldorado, complete with a very expensive and professional convertible conversion by Coach Builders Limited - in 2001, add $25K to the $45K sticker on the car, and it tells you something about the well heeled riverboat gamblers who bought these cars. It is SOLD Авто/Мото
From start this guy posted topical car salesman videos to just not even giving a shit and having life stories and tangents. I love it
I watch these videos partly for the cars but mostly for the hilarious complaints
Me too. Bill is quite a character. And I can certainly relate to all of his peeves.
Don Rickles lives through Bill
GOAT! There it is! Oh no, it LOOKED at me.
His weather rants in the beginning is a mood
I have owned a few Northstars. One being a 1996 Deville with over 250,000 and NO leaks. I have also owned four 1998-99 Olds Auroras, and one 2001 Eldorado ETC. None had a problem with the head bolts loosening. However, with the track record of so many Northstars having the head bolts loosening (and thus blowing the head gasket) I think I would be pushing my luck at this point. But yes, I LOVE this generation of Eldorados.
A new milestone for Bill as he says "shit" several times instead of his previous "crap". Add this to the other politically incorrect comments of the last video (intersects / intersex and the transsexual mechanic), it all adds up to what will Bill surprise us with next time in his unique linguistic charms.
In an upcoming video Bill will perform _'Sweet Transvestite'_ in full dress regalia! ruclips.net/video/AR6wKRWFOoE/видео.html
I had a 2000 El Dorado but I always have wanted a convertible Eldorado!!! Great video and I am old enough to appreciate the commentary the nuances and a little jokes in between hilarious but interesting at the same time this gentleman needs a TV show
"It's one of the reasons why I'm drinking whiskey in the morning.." so true
I always liked this Eldorado body. I’m impressed by how it looks with the top up.
I know that GM eventually addressed many of the Northstar bugs, but I can testify as a former 2004 XLR owner that the legendary Northstar oil leaks were still happily rolling off the assembly lines years after this Eldo was birthed. At least it's a Northstar and not the even more disastrous HT4100 engine that cratered the resale value of so many earlier gen Eldorados. This car is an absolute beauty nonetheless. Great presentation.
My lord whoever is doing the narration deserves a raise
This has become my favorite car channel on RUclips. Never change, Bill.
Always a pleasure watching your vids, Bill, you have a sublime way of keeping life in its true perspective.
Hey man, you crack me up! Keep the reviews coming brother!
they to polish his exhausts chrome tips
Gorgeous car and great review. Thanks for all this Coronavirus quarantine inspiration and amusement, Bill!
Thanks again Bill, for a hilarious yet extremely Informative review ,you sir are fine gentleman and I'm sure a stellar critic of fine whiskey
*_"Whiskey,_*_ why wait until brunch to have a glass?"_ After all, you should be drinking gin by then!!!
Thanks for another great car review. Always entertaining and fun. Informative too.
My buddy had one of these. It was built in Lansing. Sent to Florida to get the convertible conversion. Then sent back to Lansing for him. Massive car with zero back seat.
I love the 12th Gen Eldorado and I love this version even more, it’s a beauty. And I love the narrator, one of the best voices on RUclips and hilarious to boot.
Lol. Fired for being pregnant. Haha I love your commentary
dave ramsey abides
Great car. Particularly in this version. Looks really nice and stylish. Wonderful colors and lines!!
Thanks for showing and Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹👍
See not all European folks hate American cars
@@aerbes1 Most European folks know sh!t.And this opinion is from an European;)From an Eastern European, btw!
I understand a reputation has to come from somewhere, but really, the whole Northstar blown headgasket thing was always kind of exaggerated.
Like with any car, regular maintenance goes a long way. I've seen these cars last well over 200,000 miles, and having owned two of them so far with over 100,000 miles there have been no temperature or gasket problems, and I'm not running these cars particularly lightly either.
I think the reputation mostly comes from the used market for these things mostly being filled with those that ran them into the ground with no maintenence and then handing them off to some broke teenagers because they can be expensive to fix. Better to sell them off cheap than to take care of them I suppose. But hey, let people keep thinking they're complete junk so other people that can appreciate them for what they are can buy them up.
Yep, yes and I think you're right..:)
GM sold over 1 million northstar Cadillacs and more didn't have the stripped head bolts than did. It's completely over stated.
@16:34 “it’s one of the reasons I’m drinking whiskey in the morning” 😂 ONE!
You have my new favorite car channel! So darn funny!!! Please keep it up!
I agree that this was one of the last cars that actually was a Caddy, this car is simply outstanding, the gold lines, the gold-lined tires and all that jazz really represents the "Eldorado" name. The "modernized" cathedral taillights are one of my favorite design cues in these cars. Great video, my good sir.
The quarrel between you and the wasp was pretty epic and I love your sarcasm! Im a fan!
Bill, your remark about the Oldies station was spot on!
Very nice clean Eldo. Same turn signal/wiper/ cruise control stock as my ‘95 Suburban.
And more great knowledge from Bill, so right about Cadillac.
You really do get some clean cars! Awesome videos
Love your videos Bill... You're very entertaining!
Love ya Bill! You had me rolling with the baby comment. Please never stop!
The best car reviews hands down! Love the easy loss of attention and subject changes
This vehicle is absolutely beautiful!! Wow! (btw - I laughed so hard about your z-car story of your buddy sawing the top off!! XD)
LOVE LOVE LOVE the green Cougar - next door neighbor got a 78' TBird with TTops back in the day - same color - always loved the color.....
towrnghrybear it’s called Dark Jade, I believe
i had a powerlunch scheduled with the Howells yesterday but they didnt show probly on a boat trip
@22:17 That green Coug is a looker. I like the green/white combo, lovely. A little classier than the Thunderbird, but not quite a Lincoln.
WHISKEY in the morning! HA thought I was the only one going this route!
CHEERS!!!!
Thoroughly enjoy the videos, sir. I'm kind of glad you're all the way in Florida because I may have tried to trade-in my '68 Impala for that AWESOME Buick wagon you did a video about not too long ago. :-)
Bill, great deadpan humor, whit & charm; much appreciated for taking my mind away from fear & loathing in the USA and into the unpretentious zen of cartopia. Peace.
Hope you do a vid on the nice Merc Cougar in the background too! Love ya Bill!!
I thought the bee was the funniest part and then 22:28 happened with Bill performing as Officer McNulty 😁
I love these video’s!
I spotted that Mercury Cougar in background. Lol your amusing which is why too I like your videos of the cars I like.
Oh Bill!! A baby containment net?? Each video is better than the last one. Absolutely love the car videos! Keep 'em coming!
I used to love these back in the day. So sleek, sharp and absolutely gorgeous. The chrome wheels and vogue tires are an absolute must, but I gotta say I can do without the drop top on these
Brutal commentary, LOVED IT! I purchased a lot of the more unusual cars out of the southern USA but the Canadian $ is weak. $7500 US is a little over $10,000cdn. Ho hum....
Love this nice custom Eldorado!
Awesome channel thank you
"Paulie Galtieri from the Sopranos moved to Florida & wants to get more sun."
Bill...I almost coughed up a lung when I heard that! A huge fan of your narrations.
Keep up the great work & stay amazing!
I had 4 1998-99 Auroras with the Autobahn package. I LOVED those cars!!!
the Bill Hicks of car reviews!
and it`s Leif as in Live!
car reminds me of the Allante- one of my fav `modern` american cars (Tango and Cash anybody)
cheers from germany
Why does he say Cadimmac?
I ask myself the same question...
I think it is a speech thing. But I think it makes the review even more entertaining.
Thought the same thing lol
Because back in the day you wore the car...A mac! If you were over 50 you would have got it.
Whiskey for breakfast
Bill you should be a stand-up comedian!!!
Luv the drinking man's narration!!
but when did Cadillac get a 'm' in its name ..
This video makes me luv my Eldo even more !!!
Xx
This guys narration is classic😂
Finally someone who understands the n* engines were perfected by 05/06
Lmao hes slick with the jokes “ some baby momma picking up formula milk with her ebt card” 🤣🤣💀💀
Gotdammit McNolty! 😂😂😂
F did I do?
Love my dad's 01 Seville SLS...it's been great to us...
I have an '04 SLS, still cruising along, fun to drive. :)
I'm 61 and Bill seems like a crabby old man to me. It is a very nice car for it's age, like new really. It even has what I like, nice radio with CD and Tape deck! (How many snow flakes know what a tape deck is?!!)
24:45 Maybe you can find a Tony Soprano spec Suburban
The Aurora was a great car! I worked at a dealership that had Oldsmobile as one of the 5 brands and drove a new one from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale in 2001 or 2002. I guess around the time that car was built
absolutely beautiful car.
Glad you made the reference the northstar was 2 quad fours on a 90 degree angle. And GM was already aware of the issues with the quad 4 before the northstar came out. They ruined what was left of the brand with this engine.
I had a 1992 Eldorado, which is the exact same body style as this car, for a few months after I bought it off a friend. Every time I drove the car something would break. Every time.
Classic right here 🤌
You don't really need a convertible. If your wife wants the wind to blow through her hair, tell her to hold her wig out the window.
Damn you..! You have just given my wife (and I truth be told) our bucket list car! After owning a 2000 Eldorado ETC which I stupidly sold to my Father In-Law, now departed, I realized that I made a mistake. My wife and I missed and continue to miss our Polo Green Saddle leather loaded ETC, with Vogue tires and BBS wheels. Looked at an 03 Seville STS, but it just wasn't the same.
After a dastardly double head gasket fiasco with a 3 y/o 2000 DeVille DHS, we swore off Cadillac NorthStar's forever. Now that we've BOTH seen this gorgeous, FULLY loaded Black ETC Convertible, ( I called the wife in to watch this video with me, and she is similarly affected by this gorgeous car) we've both decided to start looking for a similar Cadillac NorthStar powered Eldorado ETC Convertible. We'd like to have one in Polo Green like our first, but Ebony Black, Burgundy Red, or even the Pearl White will fit the bill nicely.
As always, thanks so much for making this video! I realize the ultimate goal here is public exposure to your inventory of exceptional cars, but the fun and comedy, along with the great detailed looks, showing all the neat features, exceptional condition, plus a spirited road test, are fun to watch, and a joy to experience. I love your comedy, you think and talk EXACTLY as I do!, My wife says we could be brothers or something, though I'd be the better looking one of the bunch...LOL>>!!
Seriously though, it's nice to know that such cars as you seem to find do still exist. Furthermore, it is amazing to know that someone out there (beside me) take such great care of at least a few cool cars, be they rare or otherwise,.. Not to mention you take the time to seek out such cars out, and give us a unique video to experience along with you. Thank you for all of that, .. Your videos always make my day... Right now I'm binge watching them, which is why I'm taking time to comment on a 1 year old video, one that you are unlikely to reply to.
That mental picture of the ghetto white trash mom, with her multiple baby seats in back, worn out doughnut spare mounted, and EBT card in hand,.. is PRICELESS!! If you are not doing stand-up comedy, you should be...!!
Damn McNolty, I want your Cadillac badge and Impact Gun on my desk in the morning. Do you hear me? (Capt Art Malloney, 1979 colorized)
Lol! Those off the wall comments!!
Sooo funny!
I have a non-drop-top 2001 Eldo.... I've owned driven many, many cars.... the 2001 Northstar V8 is absolutely one of the smoothest & most responsive engines I have yet to drive... just sayin'........ :)
I have a 02 Eldorado ETC completely stock with every factory option including wood steering wheel. Its a gorgeous car and fast. Cheers! 😀
@@lancedukel3436 Are you not worried about stripped head bolts? Otherwise, definitely one of the most beautiful cars made by Cadillac!
@@vetteluvnh I think they only gave trouble if you didn't change the coolant at recommended interval, maybe causing overheating which compromised the head bolts..one and done. :)
@@vetteluvnh No, life's to short. Mine doesn't leak oil or lose coolant. They made over 1 million northstar Cadillacs and contrary to popular belief they didn't all have stripped head bolts. If it happens I will stud it. 😀
Lit the tires in the top of 1st, nice!
The MY2000 Northstar engines are said to have better casting quality to reduce head bolt pull out, but the threads were finer than the 1999 and earlier cars so it wasn't as immune to head bolt pull out as it could've been. It did have roller cam followers that largely eliminated the flat tappet wear issue of the 1999 and earlier cars when running oil with low ZDDP. The 2002 (IIRC) and later ones were great, except for potential half case oil leaks that most of the Northstars had over the years.
'04 SLS with 98k, smooth as silk. :)
I owned a 98 Riviera convertible converted by this same company...sold it to a gent who shipped it to Florida to enjoy. The company makes Challenger convertibles now.
After retirement from GM that secretary actually lived in Naples for a while Bill! Before settling into a patio home in Michigan
Sweet one of my all time favorite cars, i know the engine has it's problems but it can be fixed and corrected with bigger bolts 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I had a '95 Eldo, never had any engine trouble, fast and smooth, fun to drive!
Northstar engine under the hood is what drove me to buy a Lexus SC300 over one of these, after owning a couple different BIG body on frame Cadillacs. The Lexus wasn't quite as fast, but I noticed it drove nicer and was better built, this was about 12-13 years ago. Got great service from the Lexus for the next 7 years as well, still felt tight and nice even with 150k on the odometer.
On the 2003 DeVille for a few years, had always been curious about the SC coups, drove the sc400 and I couldn't believe how unsupportive and weak the seats seemed, nor did the engine make the great sounds that the Northstar does when you gave it the stick, the whole thing just didn't come together for me, but to each their own
They do sound nice, I see why they didn't make convertible, huge blind spot there but with the top down it's really nice.
Nicer fit and finish than what GM would've given you.
Love the Pauly reference
We need the Eldorado back.
Beautiful car, my mom had a 99 Eldorado. Her's wasn't an ETC model, it was still quick.
Man. I had a 85 Riviera too. Here in Germany. With Bullet holes on the Flanke. My best car. My now wife is still claiming , she only dated me because of this car.
If only other car salesmen had his sense of humor and love for all cars...
I bought an 83 red barrettes and you were the one talking about it I love that car has white interior red exterior and a Rolls-Royce Grill
Those aftermarket "Rolls Royce" Cadillac grilles look like ass. Stick with what the factory put on there.
@@MarinCipollina You are crazy they came with the car with the luggage rack
@@rickwalter8032 No it did not.. It was a dealer add on.
ok, not going to lie...that's a gorgeous car. Reminds me a bit of the volvo C70 convertible. Elegant big 4 seater cabriolet's are pretty rare in the modern age, especially ones looking that good.
You are the light of my new Corona-Income-For-Shit life! Thank you for the entertainment and actually excellent reviews!!!
Dude, you are funny. Given the resolution of today's cameras, tell your detailer we can all see what he misses. :-)
You just drove past a nice red Cadillac XLR on the right.
That car is beautiful.
I love watching your videos. Is this El Dorado for sale? If not, do you know where I can find one
Awesome video!! Great Cadillac, very cool!!!
Wow, this is my dream sunday car.
I had the same 1 hard top peanutbutter inside outside collar greens! It over heated never drove it again!
The stupid burns. Classic. I note some grouchy today.
Eldarados were the best caddy I ever drove 1976 & 1984 I was very pleased with those cars
I love it.
Does your detailer watch these videos? You may have to watch your back... he may be conspiring with the birds!
I've noticed on the few videos I watched of him that he can't stand the detailer.
@@henrywashington3732 I know...and other drivers, birds, and likes taking Canadians around the back seat. This guy's hilarious
BILL: Did they beef up their suspension to prevent flexing and future buckboarding and rattling,(eventually)🤔😬🙄🇺🇲🇮🇹💰🪰🪲🐜🐛🍁☘🍞🧀🍷🌧🌫❄❄🥾🥾👢👢🚬🚬🩺💉🩹🚸🛑🚦
The salesman that I bought cars from for the last 20 years or so really couldn't give two shits if customers wanted the car or not, which is why I always went back to him. Bill reminds me of those good old days before manufacturers shut down small family owned dealerships so we could all have the pleasure of an evil empire's shysty BS. Bill is like Frank in that if there is a feature he doesn't like or thinks is ridiculous he will indeed let us know. If they could make a sitcom that I laughed at as much as I do this narration I would never miss an episode.
my maternal grandfather had a late 60s or possibly a 1970 Eldorado when my mom was a young girl so it was a front wheel drive I think most of the Cars he had for the rest of his life were Front wheel drivers
They made this final version of El Dorado look great. Honestly, they should have made the ATS coupe named El Dorado, then again interior of that car was so bad, may have been for best it wasn't named an El Dorado.
The CTS of 03 was overlapping crap with the '04 Seville...THAT is a great car!
