Hey Jacks, just found your channel. My daughter and I were in the Basic course you taught October 8-10, 2021. My daughter said it was because of your unique female perspective and adaptive techniques that she was able to complete deliverables that she might have not otherwise been able to complete. We were wiped out at the end of the class, but we did it thanks to you and all the great instructors at the Pathfinder School.
Just want to say that I love this video, & you are pretty awesome.. Your man must be very proud of you... Hope to find a mate like you some day because I'm so into bushcraft, bugout, off grid, or just all camping 101...lol..wilderness is the greatest place to be... 👍👍👍👍New subscriber too...
Well "hells bells" just now stumbled onto this and I got to say, your vidio is hands down the best yet on this class. Congratulations to you . Very well done . Cheers !! Guy Speight
Your channel came up in my recommendations and I'm glad I checked it out! Congratulations on the scout patch, and keep on going and don't let anyone discourage you!!! Definitely gonna check out the rest of your channel!!! Take care of yourself!!
Hey sis! I followed you over on TikTok until I decided to discontinue it - didn’t know you had a RUclips 👍🏼 just subscribed 🍻 Your wilderness brothers from The Last Boy Scouts Survival and Bushcraft Channel
Congrats on getting the patch! What you learned there was not the making of the items but how to work through the stress and doubt and being tired. That is survival! Good job and nice video!
Wow, that's alot of info, I feel like I just got a quick crash course. Kudos to you for sticking with it! I enjoyed the vid, definitely lots of details to consider, thank you for taking the time to point them out. At the least, anyone interested won't be going in blind not knowing what to expect...I enjoy learning on the topic of bushcraft along with prepping a bag for an emergency. Thanking you for taking the time and sharing your experiences...I sincerely appreciate 👍👍
This was a spectacular video! Very informative, encouraging, and full of practical wisdom! I am about to take my first class at the Pathfinder School in October, and, although it is a different class (Intro to Basics), I loved all of the gear information so that I can prepare for further classes in the future. I am nervous, as I will be almost 54 when the class comes, but, as it is for you, this is an important step in my life. Thank you again. BTW, I subscribed to your channel since it seems as if you are quite knowledgeable.
I'm 59 and been doing bushcraft with my sons ,don't know much about it but it's fun just figuring it out, and one more thing your absolutely beautiful keep up the good work. Darwin Herron
Hi WR, found you by luck & I'm a fan of DC & CC. Watch their vids regularly with my 3 daughters. All three love the outdoors activities & bushcraft survival stuff. Hopefully one day they will meet their idols, Canterbury & Kelly. I teach them as much as I know but they get a lot of encouragement from DC & CC. Next time matey, get a branch in length with your saw, cut it in half, either fasten it with bank line or tape. The two items you're allowed to take with you. It won't cut anything with those wood guards. Cheers for sharing. Greetings from Australia.
Don't worry about how your equipment looks, it shows that you have used it and it survived and did its job. It's a good idea to use the equipment before going on the class so you know how to use all of it. Good video and thanks for all the tips you gave, you have a new subscriber,
Congrats on the Advance course! This was an awesome video to help others with great information very detailed and well done. You were an awesome instructor in my course. I am excited for the next courses I have signed up for. I will be using this to build my pack up.
This is cool! First student of Pathfinder video I have ever seen! Great video!! There at the end, I could tell how proud of that patch you are when you hold it up. Congratulations!!
You do know I’m gonna try bumping up your numbers lol 👍👊and keep on rocking it with the knowledge your sharing and hopefully your enjoying Scotland 🏴 lol
Hi Jacks! I had a blast at the June edibles class with you, Baxter and Dave. I am scheduled to attend Basic, the Rope and the August edibles this year. Cannot wait.
Congratz for finishing the course. Great job. You can always tell the style of teaching by the mandatory, recommended and the no go list. Every school has a style of teaching. Of course there's also the difference between basic and intermediate bushcraft & survival. So the pack frame making seems to be a big deal but I just never had to. I sure can make one but when I go outdoors I bring a backpack. It's extremely unlikely that you are going to lose the backpack but still have all the items that were inside the pack and now you have to make a pack frame. Ax? You don't need it. Bucksaw? You don't need it. Why a carbon steel blade? Learning how to make a bow drill or any friction fire, use a flint and steel, make char cloth, etc. are all nice skills to have but won't work in many environments. The first item on my mandatory list however is a loud whistle carried around your neck 24/7. With the basic courses we allow you to have more stuff but in intermediate and depending on environment even your cook pot has to go. We basically strip you to what you would bring on a nice day hike. So no saws, other than maybe in your SAK or multitool, no ax or hatchet. no wool blanket, no oil cloth tarp because that's not what you bring on a day hike. In many cases not even a cook pot let alone such a big one. If you are preparing for a nice stay in the woods where you also cook the 'Mors Kochanski' bush put is a great item to have but you will fill it up to safe space and put it in a backpack. To me this style of teaching is way to unrealistic, leans towards primitive living to much. It doesn't make sens in real life scenario. So I liked your video and your assessment of the items, but the course itself makes no sense to me. And if you are in a tick infected area move away from that area. It can literally kill you or cause severe damage.
Howdy Jacks... Awesome Kit review. Looks like you're high speed low drag... Switch on and good to go Girl! Keep the videos coming.. k -Canuck Man in a Van..lol
I haven't read all the comments, so forgive if this has been mentioned. For ticks. Sawyer Permetheirn spray. Yellow bottle. Spray your clothes well, put in a large garbage bad, leave overnight. Next day, air dry them. I've used this on pants, shirts, six, boots underrwear even. No ticks in several years, I also live in NY, up on the Canadien border. It worked for 4-5 warnings. I wish you well ......JB
Great Video Jacks! Sorry to hear about the additional health issues after the class. I ended up fighting poison ivy for three weeks. I took a trick from Shawn and treated my clothes with permethrin and didn't have a single tick bite. Now a subscriber so you have to make more vids!!
Thanks Craig! Poison Ivy can be ROUGH. Sorry to hear that. I wound up getting on the permethrin train a bit too late as this was believed to be a late exposure but I do think it works well and will be using it going forward for sure!
Some tips for everyone: AXE: Hultafors axes are very good. BUT... you can get a Huskvarna for half price and it's the same quality. BUSHPOT: Stainless is good, and Titanium is lighter, but Aluminum is doing the job very well, and lighter than Titanium. Will it stay in perfect shape? Nope, but it'll do the work. I bought mine at a thrift store for $2.00 and have been using it for years. Try to beat that! TAR BANKLINE: I have a very hard time with that. I'm totally against it and you should be too. Think about it, what is Bushcraft? It's mainly the lifestyle to live WITH nature. But yet, Canterbury and his schools are trying to force using something as damageable to the environment as TAR. Besides that, let's be honest, most of what you build with, you will dismantle shortly after (unless you have a permanent camp or you're one of those (censored) leaving all kinds of stuff behind in the nature). You can use regular nylon bank line and it'll be much better since it has no tar. And btw, TAR is toxic. Just saying... OIL CLOTH: It looks nice, but it's HEAVY. Silnylon is very light but fragile. The regular THICK tarps from the automotive dept. are very strong and waterproof. There's always a trade-off. It's your choice :) WOOL BLANKET You do NOT need a full queen size depending on YOUR size. Keep that in mind and forget about those trying to sell you stuff. Also, as she said in the video, the thickness of the blanket is very important. You're better with a smaller but, much thicker, blanket than a large thin one you'll freeze your ass off with. VERY IMPORTANT: Get a 100% wool blanket. Most on the market have 70% wool only and some as low as 10% but they still call it "wool blanket". You can also get away with two twin-size blankets. Check at your local thrift store. I bought mines for $20 each and they're 100% wool. One even still had the tag from the cleaner on it! ROPE Why buy that large new rope? Go to any REI, or outdoor store selling mountain climbing ropes. They have mountain climbing ropes.... returns. They're not allowed to sell them for mountain climbing, but could for other basic usages. They may even give them free to you. You can also ask in forums, at mountain climbing facilities, associations, etc... RECYCLE! :D COMPASS Suunto is very good but the Silva Ranger and the Burtons are very good too, and less expensive. As for the false reading, the military training tells you to stay 1 foot away from ANY metallic source. PACE BEADS You can buy or make one. But why not be 100% woodland friendly? Just grab some small rocks and put one in your pocket for each pace. Tada! HEADLAMPS Some will buy a USB rechargeable headlamp. My comment? I have yet to find a tree with a USB plug.... Best, are those allowing you to use either regular batteries or a USB adapter. As for the batteries, get Lithium batteries. Alkalines are HEAVY and don't last long in winter. Lithiums are much lighter and last longer in both hot and cold weather. So it attenuates the price difference by a lot. SWISS ARMY KNIFE I totally agree, not that useful. The saw is nice but guess what? Go to the hardware store and buy a replacement saw for a jigsaw. You'll save tons of money and weight! Then just make a bushcraft handle when needed. I know...I'm a genius ;) LOL BUCKSAW If you buy one, AGAWA CANYON BOREAL 21 is THE one. BUCKSAW - PROTECTING THE BLADE I'm very surprised they don't teach you the easy tick every truly experienced woodsman does... Just cut a small branch, and saw it lengthwise just a bit. Then fix it to your blade with two little ropes and Tada! Free, safe, save your gear, and 100% ecological since you can use it as tinder next time, or keep it for decades... Brilliant, I know ;) WRITING Again, simple tips here..If you want to buy ONE pen for the rest of your life and to be sure it'll work anytime. Then get a Fisher pen and their replacement cartridges. You simply can't beat that. Now, if you need to write on plastic or anything "protected".Bring with you some sticky labels. You can even waterproof them with some ultra-transparent scotch tape after. PROTECTING YOUR MAPS Your map is your life. You can buy a special protective bag made for the maps. But any very good and thick ziplock bag will do the same! And here's a pro tip here... ANY bag using a slider to close it will leave a tiny opening space when closed. Just remove that crap slider and close it by hand. Tip #2: every experienced woodsman will tell you to have two maps and keep one in your pants pocket at all times! This could save your life. FISHING VEST That's..... GENIUS! Kudos to you :D TICKS If you get Lyme disease, you'll have it for LIFE. Here are a few tips: - Ticks don't die during winter, they fall into a deep sleep. - Ticks are more active during springtime and in fall. - Ticks can be anywhere! - Best pants to have are the ones from the Canadian Army. They have a "tube" inside the lower leg, so you can put it IN your socks so ticks can't get to you at all. Those pants are very hard to find. - If you can't find any Canadian military pants, then sew an inner tube yourself. - You can also put your pants in your socks. Not stylish, but I prefer that to be sick for the rest of my life. - If unable to get to you from your legs, Ticks will go to your waist. So tuck in your shirt, t-shirt, etc. - Wear bug spray! - Sawyer sells permethrin for your cloths. DO THAT! I hope that some tips will be useful to you all. Cheers!
Good information thank you I’m going for the basic this summer and will work my way up to intermediate and hopefully advanced. Those statistics at the end are very sobering.
Sawyers makes a Permethrin spray for your clothes and picaridin for your body and everything else. Works longer and better than deet. I have had Lyme disease it is no fun, That is when my research steered me toward the Sawyer products.
I know I already commented on your vid in the Pathfinder school learning center but wanted to again. Great job and great job on getting another class done 👍. Hope to meet you at a class one day! Subbed to your channel hope you add more content
I’m not sure what you’re talking about in this video, but I’ve fallen in love with your vivacious personality and wished I lived closer so we could collab 😃
We did gear dumps at military schools - Zero day. Normally it was 35 to 50 pounds of gear - no wonder my lower back hurts now. lol. It looks like people who want to do these courses need to buy into the Pathfinder product line. Good marketing ploy. Keep working hard to achieve your goals and then get your own Discovery Channel show. Jacks "Jungle" Genega
I think your fishing vest is adorable, Jacks!!! It reminds me of Yelena Belova's vest!!! Let the haters hate!!! You ROCK!!! So says this old man!!! 😎👍👌🖖
Congratulations. Surprised you think the leatherman saw would be more effective than a sak saw. My experience has been the opposite. Besides the main blade and the saw were there any other tools on your ranger that came in handy?
Great job! If I had any suggestion at all, it would be to talk a little slower. But I thought your content was very good! I have a hard time finding appropriate outdoor clothing for women. You might consider doing a video about clothing you like. What pants are you wearing in this video?
Thanks Kelly! It is REALLY hard finding both clothing and gear for women and will be definitely be a doing a video about mine. There are some great clothing companies out there that do cater to women like Garphyttan and Fjallraven. (which can all be pricey.) These pants are from a brand called Forclaz which can be found at a Decathlon or Walmart.
I’m heading to the March basic and staying for the following week intermediate class. I’m from California and looking to drive to Ohio if I can find someone to carpool with if possible? Any takers
Great video! Do you teach at the Pathfinder school? If not you should. Thanks again for this informative and well made video! 👍🤠👍 P.S. I loved the vest! 😉

For the bucksaw - cut two straps of wood that cover the blade completely and using the bank line tie it up, thus covering blade.
Yup that works!
THANK YOU! VERY WELL DONE. 😊
Your a Rock star of the woods!!!
Very cool video intermediate class I guess you have to make your own backpack 😮. Hopefully I can do the basic class this year.
I'm pretty sure I'm not alone saying, I'd like to see you on the Alone show.
PATHFINDER UP!
Excellent video. It came off as very real and honest, hands on experience insights.
Some tips for everyone:
AXE:
Hultafors axes are very good. BUT... you can get a Huskvarna for half price and it's the same quality.
BUSHPOT:
Stainless is good, and Titanium is lighter, but Aluminum is doing the job very well, and lighter than Titanium. Will it stay in perfect shape? Nope, but it'll do the work. I bought mine at a thrift store for $2.00 and have been using it for years. Try to beat that!
TAR BANKLINE:
I have a very hard time with that.
OIL CLOTH:
It looks nice, but it's HEAVY. Silnylon is very light but fragile. The regular THICK tarps from the automotive dept. are very strong and waterproof. There's always a trade-off. It's your choice :)
WOOL BLANKET
You do NOT need a full queen size depending on YOUR size.
ROPE
Why buy that large new rope? Go to any REI, or outdoor store selling mountain climbing ropes. They have mountain climbing ropes.... returns. They're not allowed to sell them for mountain climbing, but could for other basic usages. They may even give them free to you. You can also ask in forums, at mountain climbing facilities, associations, etc... RECYCLE! :D
COMPASS
Suunto is very good but the Silva Ranger and the Burtons are very good too, and less expensive. As for the false reading, the military training tells you to stay 1 foot away from ANY metallic source.
PACE BEADS
You can buy or make one. But why not be 100% woodland friendly? Just grab some small rocks and put one in your pocket for each pace. Tada!
HEADLAMPS
Some will buy a USB rechargeable headlamp.
SWISS ARMY KNIFE
I totally agree, not that useful. The saw is nice but guess what? Go to the hardware store and buy a replacement saw for a jigsaw. You'll save tons of money and weight! Then just make a bushcraft handle when needed. I know...I'm a genius ;) LOL
BUCKSAW
If you buy one, AGAWA CANYON BOREAL 21 is THE one.
BUCKSAW - PROTECTING THE BLADE
I'm very surprised they don't teach you the easy tick every truly experienced woodsman does... Just cut a small branch, and saw it lengthwise just a bit. Then fix it to your blade with two little ropes and Tada! Free, safe, save your gear, and 100% ecological since you can use it as tinder next time, or keep it for decades... Brilliant, I know ;)
WRITING
Again, simple tips here..If you want to buy ONE pen for the rest of your life and to be sure it'll work anytime. Then get a Fisher pen and their replacement cartridges. You simply can't beat that. Now, if you need to write on plastic or anything "protected".Bring with you some sticky labels. You can even waterproof them with some ultra-transparent scotch tape after.
PROTECTING YOUR MAPS
Your map is your life.
FISHING VEST
That's..... GENIUS! Kudos to you :D
TICKS
If you get Lyme disease, you'll have it for LIFE. Here are a few tips:
- Ticks don't die during winter, they fall into a deep sleep.

I know I already commented on your vid in the Pathfinder school learning center but wanted to again. Great job and great job on getting another class done 👍. Hope to meet you at a class one day! Subbed to your channel hope you add more content
Thanks so much Dan! Hope to meet you as well!
@@wildcard.wilderness your so welcome!! Would be awesome for sure ☺️
In the photo, only three had certs or patches shown. Did others not make it?
There were some students who did not patch.
@@wildcard.wilderness Thanks. Trying to figure out transportation. How do I get from airport to the meeting spot... Lol
great job !
Great video,thanks
I’m not sure what you’re talking about in this video, but I’ve fallen in love with your vivacious personality and wished I lived closer so we could collab 😃
That were a great video
Great video thanks
We did gear dumps at military schools - Zero day. Normally it was 35 to 50 pounds of gear - no wonder my lower back hurts now. lol. It looks like people who want to do these courses need to buy into the Pathfinder product line. Good marketing ploy. Keep working hard to achieve your goals and then get your own Discovery Channel show. Jacks "Jungle" Genega
Lol thanks!
I think your fishing vest is adorable, Jacks!!! It reminds me of Yelena Belova's vest!!! Let the haters hate!!! You ROCK!!! So says this old man!!! 😎👍👌🖖
Love your energy!
thanks!
Congratulations. Surprised you think the leatherman saw would be more effective than a sak saw. My experience has been the opposite. Besides the main blade and the saw were there any other tools on your ranger that came in handy?
Probably the pliers for lashings
(which can all be pricey.) These pants are from a brand called Forclaz which can be found at a Decathlon or Walmart.
good job jacks
Just now found your channel
well done
Do a motivator for Advanced!
Great video.
I’m heading to the March basic and staying for the following week intermediate class. I’m from California and looking to drive to Ohio if I can find someone to carpool with if possible? Any takers
Both in one go! Power to you! Good Luck!
Did you learn any Tracking through the course?
Sadly no but there is some of that in the trapping classes
R u giving instructional courses n the N.Y. area? I would like to start preparing to take a Pathfinder class or two.
Not currently but possible!
@@wildcard.wilderness thanks
Great video! Do you teach at the Pathfinder school? If not you should.
Thanks again for this informative and well made video!
👍🤠👍
P.S. I loved the vest! 😉
Yes I do!
