Actually there are many natta adavus but the steps varies to the guru who is teaching. My teacher taught me 14 adavus only. My friend learn bharatnatyam from another teacher she taught her 8 natta adavus. My sister recently learning bharatnatyam there she learned only 6 natta adavus.
Number of Adavus varies from the way of teaching and depend on the Guru who may have their own style of interpreting them.
