He tried making a Burial track but just made a Drake beat.
fr
No he didn’t, he said he’s making a trap beat- just using some of buriels techniques.
It’s like if Drake did a really good job ripping off Burial lol
😂
burial's style is like a butterfly. the tighter you try to hold it in your hands the faster it crumbles and disintegrates. you can pull out individual elements of it, copy his vocal manipulations like thousands have over the past decade, or take his crackle etc - but no one will ever really recreate his music because it is primarily a feeling and quite personal.
it sounds like it came out of the ground. : )
burial is one of the producers u cant copy imho (without sounding like a dupe)
@devontodetroit yeah but he makes bangers lol
Well said, man! 👍
yes 🧬 man 🌀
The man can't do any wrong imo, his songs can't be stuck down to one specific genre and they all differ even when they're on an album like untrue, this level of creativity just isn't seen anymore or very rarely, very few people are able to replicate his produce style because it is so complex, massive respect to burial and everything that he has done for music, he may not be a world renowned producer but to the people that appreciate and understand his music he is an absolute genius
heard his latest release??? its not good... its bad
@@Uchoobdood YES!!!!! It´s hard for me to listen to!
@@scorpioqueen9633 he's just sort of moving off of the old 2step stuff and going onto more of an ambient genre. I don't think it's bad, it's just very different. I like the emotionality of it all. Not having to use a beat really lets him run free with the atmosphere and experience he wants to create imo. It's better in some ways but worse in other ways. I can't groove to the newer stuff like I did before, but I still enjoy the soundscape. Burial is still Burial
bruh what burial are you listening to ?
HE MAKE REAL TRASH MUSIC FOR REAL
Burial is magic.
Using soundflower for recording that sample was a super helpful tip, thank you so much 🙏🏻 had no idea you can use soundflower for that 🔥🔥🔥
Why not take a piece of his music with drums, make a quantise template and save that for future usage. Or better make a few... you can still tweak the individual notes after that to improve the swing, bounce etc... BUT allow me to say that this is the best tutorial on the net to get the burial sound, really love it. Kudo's point blank, as always. Love the tuts and interviews, you guys are awesome
Really digging this, thanks for making it!
His drum kit and that crackle tho... only just listened on mobile, but the drum kit is so garage and nicely done.
This is abs brilliant 🔥, thank you. Been trying to copy Burial myself for some time now 😆
This was really interesting, thanks!
Good effort, thank you. I reckon Burial composed by the feel of it rather than being on the grid
Pretty sweet but real burial way more complex
Though your breakdown and analysis of the central production techniques and elements is spot on, I skipped to the end result and heard a fairly non distinctive trap beat. You attempted to combine 2 seemingly contradictory things , which is what all daring producers should do. However, I just don't think you've pulled it off. It's fine of course, but it does make for a disappointing video. Who knows it might actually be a great innovative sound, but it needs more tuning.

You missed an important detail by skipping to the end. He points out that he will be pinpointing 3 of his techniques and applying them to a different genre.
We need more people like you who look at this positively
Love your comment :)
Dude why would you start out by placing the kicks and the snares on the grid? It completely misplaced the entire swing you were trying to accomplish. I appreciate your effort on the video though. But you can almost certainly have the kicks and snares way behind the beat. You don’t need an “anchor” so to speak. Just have to use your ears.
Hmm not really anything like burial, more like a generic trap track.
Sorry for my English: Back then it was a different process. we didnt use daws like Ableton but we used the computer for beats and as an 8 tracks recordedr I used Sound Forge or Cool Edit to sample and record, a tracker or fruity loops for beats. A cracked reason for basses, We used to sample tv, movies and yt videos.
I am talking as if I am an fart! I am 44 😂. I just trying to say it was a different approach: in the box, but in many different boxes
How's the rhythm programming a 'producer technique'?
Anything is a producer technique if you try hard enough
burial wasnt making on grid. he was doing it in soundforge. thats how his rhytm is technique
I don't even remember being subscribed to you and didn't even know who you are but thanks for this video. It's something I was thinking about lately, how to emulate some of his techniques.
he actually didn't use a DAW at all to produce Untrue. It was all made in soundforge which is just an audio file editor like audacity which is pretty crazy
Great video!! I have a question, do you sample vocals that aren't WAV? How much does that matter if you process heavily?
@devontodetroit Right exactly. My thinking is that if my drums/synths so tight and high quality and obscure processed vocal that isn't a WAV will be ok.....
@devontodetroit Nah not going for his sound, just more curious about using lower quality wavs on vocals, but you've answered my question so thanks dude.
if you process heavily, it will get a different vibe than the original.
Do you even 2-step bruuuh....XD
I'm a huge Burial fan.
LOVE!
Thx for this. It would be nice to see burial making some music live on video. 😍
Where i think ur trap beat goes wrong, is that youll hear in a lot of songs he doesnt have the accents quantizrd, snares and claps shuffle just as much, and makes the groove itself feel drunk.
@fruityler lups I agree, the initial kicks and snare should have been moved off-grid
Thanks PB...great one
Burial & Dilla are from the same Universe
sounds more trap then garage. but you made a dope beat.
Amazing!
What is the name of the program that he used?
Picsart
Thank you
Some of you may be interested to know that it's been said before that Burial doesn't produce to a tempo but instead uses time code
@hmm he used soundforge to create his tracks, which doesn’t have a grid.
@@someguy7448 I honestly think he's fucking with people on that bit... because why in his right mind would he use Soundforge? lol. Especially since you can turn the grid off in any other DAW. He wasn't someone unknown to the world of music production and just stumbled upon it, tried it out and it worked. He's friends with, and collaborated with well known artists who certainly don't use Soundforge... it just doesn't make sense to me. I've read all the articles over the years and it really just seems like he's just seeing what he can get away with on that one :) Just my opinion.
shell of light, his best track!!!
HIDERS 🥰
This is great
never knew burial made hip hop lol
soundflower is only for MAC users :( is there a free alternative for windows?
audacity is a good alternative
Well done.
I would make this drum loop a bit more minimalistic, its way too bisy. And maybe add much more swing and crispiness. The rhythm you come up with, just didn't feet into the atmospheric samples mood
Good one sir
Imagine not being ashamed about uploading this.
Rather listen to burial and learn myself... but it was a goood lesson to get audio in2 Ableton. I use loopback from farrago to avoid most of the hassle, but hey! Cool
I used to be a producer like you... but then I took a brick wall limiter to the face.
Would love you to do 'Maya Jane Coles'; she's effortlessly contemporary whilst maintaining those classic deeper vibes. I've not seen anybody adequately represent what she does yet...
for real? theres about 100 different producers all doing the same as her. its nothing of any interest really

feel like i just wasted 17 minutes of my fuckin life im so pissed
you went too trap / hiphop instead of garage
Don't listen to RUclips tech boys about Burial. Turn away from the beaten path.
16:10
Flume
That doesnt sound like Burial at all..
absolutely nothing like burial, nice beat but in no way what he does
Not many can do what he does so doesnt suprise me they couldnt get it spot on
Who said electronic music can't be soulful?!
Burial for Garage and Khordelia for R&B is all I need. My faceless UK dons.
Nice work, I have just made a burial inspired song aswell, feel free to check it out !
this is objectively the worst recreation of a burial track ever
like, seriously? the drums are just normal electronic samples, you used a piano melody which just made it sound like a stereotypical rap beat, AND YOU USED AN 808 BASS
burial uses foley for his drums, he rarely uses melodies, if he does its almost always a synth. he uses a reese and sometimes some dubstep wubs for his basslines. and he uses ALOT of vinyl crackles and noise.
17 minutes to make 2 bar trap loop that sounds not even remotely like Burial. That's just embarrassing.
The video says "how to use techniques from Burial and apply them to a COMPLETELY different style of music". Maybe you missed this?
and the drums are on grid 😂
@@MrDarthSeriousmixes yes lol, he syncopated the grooves and accents.. which is precisely what Buriao doesn't do
Putting Burial and trap cancer in the same video, come on.
Wtf is this 😭
It deserves mentioning that what he was using wasn't even a DAW
supposedly
@@nickhyder9141 he used sound forge, which is a very different kind of audio software, with no grid.
@@MFKitten I don't know what to believe
Only track (I know of) that he used a daw on was 'unite'
I posted this in another comment but because it's relevant I'll post it here too...

All that background noise in the vocal!! What are you going 2 do about it? Overcompressed noise is the worst use of noise
🤦🏼♂️
Not even close son go back to point blank school
this barely even sounds inspired by burial... like the drums show no influence from the 16T swing sound of UK garage and the sampling techniques are awful. the sample should have been a pad with a volume ramp. take one pad sample and pitch it up and down to get cool overtones instead of sampling a huge long piece.
This tutorial it is abs a joke tbh
Burial Untrue is a masterpiece but to this day I failed to find someone who will listen to the whole album for pleasure.
i do
i do
🙋🏻♂️
you need to speak to better people
I do
Why isn't this getting the abuse it deserves!? yuck.
Lame
sounds more like trap than burial.
The point is applying burial techniques to other genres, in this case trap. Did you not listen to the video?
not good
This is blasphemously bad
Start of the video: this is bs this sounds nothing like Burial wtf lmao
End of the video: my mans just made a new Burial song :O
