I feel like I needed to see this video! I am Mexican American and trying to connect to my ancestors during a very hard transitional period. I really loved your tutorial and I love especially the ritual of setting intentions and calling on ancestors for strength, it really resonated!! Thank you for making this!!
I feel you. I’m in the same situation. I grew up in mexico and it’s quite interesting to have that experience of duality and understanding of both cultures. Being far away from home reveals to me how special our culture is, and how the ones that have a divided heart between both countries, like us, braid the narrative of belonging. I’m very active on Instagram @journeyofabraid with this theme.
Greetings from Ukraine! It was really interesting for me to find out about Mexican braiding and the spirituality of this practice. Your respect towards your national traditions and your ancestors is awesome, as I believe that every nation should keep their traditions alive.
I really love the intention setting to help another woman out. I have been loving braiding bracelets and inviting the recipient to make a wish upon knotting it on them.
I'm oaxacan from my dad's side and I been wanting to braid my hair with ribbons. I've always wanted to visit and connect with my roots so I've been eager to braid. I got an orange ribbon but its half the size of yours xc I'll get a wider one soon, thank you for your video!! 😊d
I’m Guatemalan, and the practice may not be the same, but we also brain ribbons into our hair and I want to learn and embrace it and I was so confused on how to do it. So thank you
I have African hair. I say about 14 inches long 😬. The longer kinky hair gets the harder to deal with 😅. I had this idea about braiding ribbon into my hair, so I went on RUclips to see if others have tried. I found your video, and you make it seem so easy. I'm going to give this a try. Hope it works out. Wish me luck 😊❤
Think of this as a conversation with yourself. Enjoy the process of having a conversation with yourself through the ribbon. Think about how braided we are to each other. I know you will make it happen ❤️
Would you consider doing a video on your hair care routine? How you wash it? What you use? I'm Very curious to know more... I have very long hair I would love to nurture like your's.
Hello! I've been looking into different ways that hair can be braided for a while now when I came across this video. The idea that the ribbon can have intentions is very intriguing to me, but I haven't been able to find anything online about the historical significance. Also, I'm Salvadoran, not Mexican, so I'm worried that if by doing this I would be hijacking a different cultural practice. Do you have any insight you could share with me about the history of this? Thank you!
Sorry for my late answer. The element of braiding with intention is my own ritual. It doesn’t have a historical root that I’m aware of, but it has turned braiding into an element of power for me. What does have historical relevance is the act of braiding. Every culture in the world has braided their hair in some way since our civilization began in Africa. Braiding belongs to humans. As long as it’s done with respect I do not see how it can be cultural appropriation. Understanding where it comes from is definitely important, but it’s our culture. Human culture.
Hi there! I am wondering what are the lengths of each ribbon (the shorter and longer ribbon). I am trying to figure it out but I just simply cant seem to, i'm sorry! thank you so much!

Hair being an extension of the soul really makes sense to me, and I think that's a beautiful practice! Thank you for sharing it!

Hi! Has it worked? I think if you let the top part loose, it should work out well!

Your videos are very enlightening! Where can I purchase a set of ribbons? 💖
Hi Jessica, so happy you like them. I sell them on my website, journeyofabraid.com/shop, or you can practice with long pieces of textiles as well
@@journeyofabraid Okay thank you so much! I'll check out your website! 😊
Lovely video
Where do you get your ribbons?
Looks nice
In China they do this too💞 ancient Chinese hairstyles
Nice.
Hi there! I am wondering what are the lengths of each ribbon (the shorter and longer ribbon). I am trying to figure it out but I just simply cant seem to, i'm sorry! thank you so much!
They’re about a foot long. I sell the best quality ribbons you can ever find on my store as well. 🥰 journeyofabraid.com/shop
Can non mexican do it, love the ribom at the end
Super
Where do you buy the ribbon? I want to try!
On my website! I’m restocking right now. They will be all added to the store on the first week of august. (Www.journeyofabraid.com/shop)
Thank you
So cute
a genuine question, is it problematic if non mexicans use the Mexican Braids?
Upload more ribbons hair steyls
You would be super hot even with a short haircut, but with long hair..... OFF THE CHARTS!!!
Thank you for your light 🌟
@@journeyofabraid *smiles*
Upload twin folding braids ribbons
I can see you’re struggling to do this with your very long hair
Here because of jennie kim
That’s definitely not the way to tie it. We wrap the last strand of the ribbon around the hair tips and tie a knot around it not with the hair
that's the beauty of it. everyone can do things however they want to. would love to see a video of how you do it.
