This is a beautiful video. Everyone who works with children is a blessing, and to take them from that first day to where they stand today is amazing. So much love to Stu for his dedication to them.
After winning the grade 1 world's drumming and band prize in 2017, I think a new "chapter" to this wonderful story needs to be added! Great, heart warming story here!
I almost had a tear to see how this band evolve in this video. A span of 9 years from silly to epic sound pitch and skills are beyond respect both piping and drumming. What Stuart Liddell presented to this group of people is really admirable. I'm very sure monumental amount of patience, team work and brilliance are at play.
Ive been a huge fan of IDPB for years and always will be. Just love their music and the band has evolved so far. What a legacy Stuart Liddell and Steven McWhirter have made in the Pipe Band World by the evolution of IDPB.. both teaching young people from the early stages of the band and then taking a step into the unknown leaving the 2008 Grade 1 World Champions SFU to bring this band from Grade 2 to where it is today one of the top Grade 1 bands in the world I am and will always be an IDPB supporter thru and thru. Heres to the 2024 season. Go IDPB
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this, but it brings tears to my eyes every time. Stuart has done an amazing job. And since this they’ve won the big prize.
What a great piece of pipe band historic biography! This has been wonderful to see. The patience and genius of Pipe Major Stuart Liddell is a triumph. Reminds me of being in the Forfar Burgh Pipe Band from mid 50's to early 60's, where we went from 4th grade to 1st in about 7 years. We had a little help from the Muirhead and Sons Pipe Band Grangemouth around 1956/7. Then under PM Watt Leslie and Pipe Sergeant Trevor Dear we went up thro' the grades and finally grade1 under Trevor as PM. Our first outing in grade1 at Markinch-British Champs (I think) after some deliberation by judges and band members it was discovered the points showed we achieved 4th place. Ahead of Edinburgh Police and other top bands of the day. Although it didn't actually get announced.
Now that you have won the World's, please up date this video. It's a great way to demonstrate commitment and perseverance to up and coming young pipers and drummers.
What an inspiration for anybody trying to get good at...well anything!!! There is no such thing as luck. It's years of hard work and a moment of opportunity.
What an amazing feat!! Well done you guys - glad to see the original members are still in the band. You folks are a credit to Scotland and an inspiration to bands all over the world
Patience is a virtue and Stuart Liddell you are one fantastic visionary! Well done! To show what it is like to start off and to finish the way this video shows is fantastic.
Nothing but the utmost highest respect for this band and its leadership. I've had the privilege of hanging out with this band in Inverary and it was absolutely Amazing. The musicianship is superior and one cannot come away without learning something. That's if your interested of course. Amazing to see the growth from ground Zero. Grateful to have personal friends in this band. Stellar 💯💯
A magnificent story and something in it for all pipe band enthusiasts. It shows what can be done with a desire, good leadership, community support and kids willing to give it a go. Truly inspiring!
An absolute inspirational video , from the primary school years to Grade 1 , so glad the original 5 , are still members , keep at it Inveraray PB , A Grade 1 title will be very hard to win, but if you continue to progress like you have over the past nine yrs, then who knows , you just might nail it !! I hope so !! and well done Stuart Liddell for having the vision , belief and commitment !!
I was overseas in the far east for nearly 9 years. I came back to Scotland in 2015. And I&D PB were world class! What the heck happened while I was away? Well, this wee video shows it all. Braw braw lads and lassies!
This video is just amazing...... in the first clip they are a group of children sounding awful..... the next clip better...... but still in that same year they play very nice. And from there on, its just going up and up. And now in 2017 the band is The world Champion in Grade 1...... the ultimate title. Just amazing what Stuart Liddell has done with them. Great motivation to watch. And congratulation with the great achievement.
Great video. Bought a child size chanter for my wee lad recently. He's got a great tutor, my pal's son who just won the grade 1 world champs in the FMM pipe band. Again, great vid! Good luck for the future.
Superb vid of the journey. Great to be able to look behind the competitions and see the evolution. Thanks Gus for putting it together and salutations to Stuart, the Liddel "Little Originals" and the Band's supporters. Slàinte!
0:30-3:00 Ladies and gentlemen, the 2013 pre-Worlds concert band! The story of Inveraray & District is quite possibly the best reason to love pipe bands right now. "Ascension" has to be the most apt name for a pipe band concert ever, and I will do my utmost to make the CD the fastest-selling pipe band recording of all time.
EXCELENTE...!!! REALMENTE MOTIVADOR....la perseverancia, el trabajo duro y el no darse por vencido, excelente trabajo....!!!saludos desde Chile al sur del planeta
Never let anyone tell you that you will never reach your goals and fulfil your dreams because all it takes is guts, determination and hard work, congratulations!
Wow.....this is wonderful. Does any of the original 3-4 pipers and 1 drummer now play in the Grade 1 band? Yip acorns do grow into mighty oak trees. Are the majority of the members now in the Grade 1 band from the local area or are they like many others in Grade 1 and have players from all over the world? Very inspirational and moving...........
Are there vids like this of other pipe bands? If not there should be. This is a reminder that we all gotta start somewhere. I'm blind so i can't see what's happening, but i do know that from the first green hills to the second there is a definite upswing in the quality of the sound. The chanters were all in tune and the over-all sound was stronger. I don't know whether this was the point where Stuart took over leadership or there were more pipers or both.
The leading tip at the outset was Graeme McMillan. He still plays in the Grade 1 corps. Nowadays the leading tip is Steven McWhirter, current World Solo Drumming champion.
Inveraray 2004. Even Strachur Primary was better than that way back in 1970! And as for wee Strathlachlan...they were on fire back then! Salute to Neil Campbell of Succoth.
This is a beautiful video. Everyone who works with children is a blessing, and to take them from that first day to where they stand today is amazing. So much love to Stu for his dedication to them.
Must be my favourite pipe band video ever, this is what all pipe bands are dreaming to strive

Fantastic. I've watched the rise of the band with interest and can't wait for the concert at the GRCH in August. You are an inspiration to all....
Magic, pure Magic. From the ashes a new pheonix is born. Thankyou for this excellent tour.

Hi, does anyone know the name of the tune played at 7:34? Many thanks :)
Ian Green of Greentrax a Gordon Duncan Hornpipe
love!!!
The tune is "I See Mull" - also called Land of My Youth.
Awesome!
To come that far in 10 years is simply amazing. I hope y'all beat the kilts off of FMM and every other band at the next World Championship.
Yes, the original 5 are still with the band. Amazing, right?
Keep those kids going. In the states we have very, VERY few kids getting into our arts. Sad.
The leading tip at the outset was Graeme McMillan. He still plays in the Grade 1 corps. Nowadays the leading tip is Steven McWhirter, current World Solo Drumming champion.
Hope to see y'all back on Glasgow Green soon. Best of luck for another championship.
This is great....special the intro :)
Yes they are!
Très émouvant.
Anyone know the name of the tune at 8:56? Hungarian/Bulgarian something?
Johnny Hunt Jim Blackley
4 times actually. IDPB have won it in Novice Juvenile, Juvenile, Grade 2 and Grade 1.
Inveraray & District Pipe Band 5. Now.
I had no idea Inverary were all still pretty much kids! That's how you do it, though--get 'em young and keep 'em interested.
I can't tell you how happy that opening bit just made me - 'n dòchas gur b' e do smuain fhèin a bh' ann Stiùbhairt!
Team hendo for life!!333 best teacher in the world!
Is there a full video of 15:17 ? At the rehearsal ? It's magnificent !
I never realised they've actually been world champs in 2 different grades, that's some achievement.
bubbleboy02 - 4 grades. And some repeats...
Is any of the kids in the video at the start still in the band or still playing?
What is the tune the kids are playing at the start? I recognise the tune but can't recall the name.
Great inspirational video. Well done!!
Where is this we drummer boy now is he still in the band
He took a couple of years out to study law. He is now a trainee solicitor but teaches drumming to a local Grade 4 band, Mid Argyll.
Mostly that was Green Hills of Tyrol with just a bit of Bonnie Galloway at the end.
is the leading tip still the same one?
Tune from 2:30 - 4:00? Thanks.
Inveraray 2004. Even Strachur Primary was better than that way back in 1970! And as for wee Strathlachlan...they were on fire back then! Salute to Neil Campbell of Succoth.
15:07 - "Yes, I was Drunk" LOLOLOL
it's all got to start someplace...
Champions again in 2014. I liked the effort with "I See Mull". :)
9:35
@gozzaoz
Land of my Youth
