Hi Oliver, great video and great resource. Thanks for sharing the looks are amazing. I purchased the powergrade. My working colour space is Davinci wide gamut intermediate colour managed and my output is Rec709 Gamma 2.4. When I use the log power grade on my BMPCC OG footage it gets over saturated as my colour space set up is alreagy correcting for the log image. To be honest, the sRGB profile looks better but again off. Do you mind sharing your input/working and output colour spaces in order to make this power grade work? Many thanks.
Your footage is really impressive, the best I've seen out of the BMPCC. Quick question: when you super-scale to 4K, do you do it before or after applying the grade? Also, do you add grain to the footage before or after the super-scaling process? Thanks!
So many videos on RUclips of people teaching you to colour, But none of them actually come close to making footage look like film, in my opinion You’ve come the closest!
Love the video, just purchased your power grade. One question, how should film convert nitrate be used with this? I have the free version of Resolve and so am using film convert nitrate to add grain. However it dramatically changes the colors when I use it. Thanks!
glad you enjoyed the video! I don’t use film convert anymore but if I were to use it I would probably apply it after the sharpening node (to ensure you aren’t sharpening the grain) and then decrease the film luma setting so the colours don’t clash with the film lut. Having said this it’s worth playing around with it to see what kind of looks you can achieve!
Hey, I purchased both this and the orthographic film pack but had a question. What are you selecting in color space transform for input color space, input gamma, output color space, and output gamma? not sure if my settings are correct
Hey, it really depends on what your camera is and which powergrade you’re using, there is a specific part of the video where I walk through the Color space changes you need to make, feel free to drop me and email if you’re still having trouble!
Love your stuff man. Have the powegrade and shooting on a gx80 but when I use it, it tends to make everything a bit washed out and nowhere near as vibrant as your footage, any ideas?
Hey, thanks for picking up my powergrade! Could you confirm what picture profile you’re shooting with? The Powergrade will render a slightly flat image to begin with because it can’t account for individual exposure but once you fix exposure and white balance using your waveforms this shouldn’t be the case. Drop me an email if you’re still experiencing issues and I can help you troubleshoot 🙂
Hey, sorry to hear you’re having trouble with it, the only color management setting I use are the ones I outline in the video, I.e correcting exposure and then looking at each scene and tweaking the Color in the gamma, lift and gain. Drop me an email with some screenshots if you’re still having trouble!
Hey I bought the powergrade but for some reason when I try to use the KeysLut I get a message saying: "MISSING LOOKUP TABLE 3D LUT: KeysLuts/Fuji Pro400.cube". What could cause this? Also should I use the dpx or drx version of the powergrade file?
Hey! The lut is included in the download file, you need to import this into resolve and apply it to the last node named “keys LUT” I hope this helps but let me know!
Hi there, I’m really not an expert on audio but my general approach is to set a limiter on the zoom and then get the levels correct when recording and then apply the gate feature in the EQ settings in davinci to cut out any ambient noise. Hope that’s useful!
Hello Oliver , I just purchased the pack and from having the same identical kit I thought I could/ would get sorta the same results kinda with you . Surprisingly enough im actually really struggling to color some of my footage is it because I shoot in Pro res instead of Raw or does that not affect anything at all ? just really curious to know
Hey Gerald, hmm that sounds very odd. I also shoot in ProRes most of the time so I don’t think this will be the issue. Firstly have you amended your exposure in line with the waveforms to make sure the contrast is set correctly? Secondly have you used the lift gamma and gain dials to correct your white balance? If these are set correctly then you shouldn’t be having any issues. Drop me an email at oliver.keyscine@gmail.com with some screenshots and I can help you troubleshoot further!
How important is it to use the original bmpcc instead of the bmpcc 6k to achieve this 16mm? What if I tried your tree already made for bmpcc on a bmpcc 6k footage? Also did you shoot the clips shown in video in RAW?
You can definitely use the Bmpcc 6k, all you need to do is apply the LOG powergrade from the download and select the “CST” node and end the input to Blackmagic design 6k and you’ll be good to go :)
@@oliverkeys3953 The reason why I'm asking this is because I sold my old DSLR and currently only have a Sigma 24mm 1.4 DG Art lens. I don't know weather I should buy the bmpcc 6k or the OG. If I bought the OG I feel like I could only use it for this vintage type of look but maybe it isn't the look I always wanna go for. That's why I'm asking if it's possible to achieve a similar look with a 6k to the og.

From your comments i see that i should go with the LOG option but i still dont know what CST node settings i should have, also what are your General CST settings (YRGB,YRGB color managed auto, or ACES)
Hi there, sorry for the delay! You need to select the Blackmagic 4K option in the CST node. The LUT is in the “Keys LUT” folder in your download file, you’ll need to import that to davinci and apply it to the last node. I originally called it “Fuji 400h” that’s why it shows that message. I hope that helps but let me know if you’ve got any more questions!
amateur question im sure but why do i keep seeing little black squares or black boxes all over my footage when in resolve? Trying to grade my night footage.
@@oliverkeys3953 I looked up what dead pixels look like and thats not it. It like little black squares or artifacts that appear in a few frames for a split second

Very weird because I’m actually a huge fan of Oliver Reed. I’d probably say his drunk appearances on 90s chat shows stand out to me more than his movies but nonetheless the guy was a true champion
But it still looks digital in any case. It looks like your "16mm film" has a poor dynamic range, but modern scanners allow us to achieve almost the same range as digital cameras. If you compare Kodak's vision-3 to Digital Bolex or BMPCC (ORIGINAL) (Digital 16mm cameras). Kodak beat those digital cameras.
