- Released to celebrate the Game Gear's 30th anniversary, here's a hands-on unboxing video of the Japan exclusive Game Gear Micro.
I walkthrough the system's functions and features as well as the games on the Blue model. Functions such as how to access the in-game menu, and the options menu.
Included games are Sonic and Tails, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale, and Baku Baku Animal.
I bought mine just as a collection item. I had a quick go of Sonic 1, and now I'll just have it for display.
nice! I actually ended up beating Sonic and Gunstar Heroes. Played more than I thought.
Oops I meant to say copyright instead of usage rights.
Also, turns out the clear one is just a mock up!
Did youbhear about the speacial Box with the pins? No one got a micro but a box with Pins.
Great video
Thanks for taking the time!
It’s sad that my petition to get Sega to improve the Game Gear Micro bombed with only 20 votes; The improvements I would’ve liked to see to the GGM are a bigger size, more built-in games, a cartridge slot so you could play additional games directly from the cartridges, and AV support so you could play the games on your TV screen.
That'd have been amazing! Had I known about your petition there would have been 21 votes.
didn't your fingers got tired after few minutes of playing it?
Not really. I played it last night for about an hour and didn't notice any discomfort. Surprisingly my eyes didn't bleed either.
If this is for Japan than why is sonic in English? The start up of gunstar is English?? Count me cofused. Cool novelty but clearly nintendo did a WAY!! better job with the gameboy advance micro. I'm sure they're not competing but clearly the most natural comparison. Sega should have made the systems just a little bigger so you could swap carts. It would have been larger but could still be considered a micro. Just a thought. And what games are on that clear micro?
Not sure why, but it's not too uncommon for Japanese games to have English menus.
Yeah, I think this compares to Nintendo's new Game & Watch out in November. That has the larger screen, rechargable battery, for the same price... I'm thinking Nintendo did a way better job with that than Sega did with this. That'll even have USB-C! Seems like it'll be a much throwback.
But to be fair, I've been playing the game gear micro every day lol
And about the clear one, it's actually just a mock up! You can't play it!
Any idea what games came on the clear one?
I just looked it up and it says you can't play any games on it! It's just a mock up! How disappointing.
Looks like there's a white model coming to stores (not online only) in December. It's an Aleste special edition with 4 shmups. That sounds like a good fit.
@@raccooncitycinemado you know where it'll be available? I'm sure it stays in Japan but maybe. Just maybe it'll get a larger release.
@@michaelcomandatore7736 Sorry, I haven't heard anything about an international release.
Ah the smallest of gears I seee
very nice! it is too rich for my blood considering how limited it is, though
Yeah 5000 yen is too expensive. Especially if you want the Big Window... 1 is enough for me!
Btw, I like your channel!
RaccoonCityCinema thanks! Everyone I know also says they want to wait for the price to come down.
It’s a tiny system, more of a curiosity than anything else but the price tag... oof! Retro Core did a tear down and found out there’s a button inside on the pcb that does absolutely nothing. It was kinda fun.
Yeah, that price. Considering the Game & Watch is the same price with a larger screen and rechargable battery... interesting to see how they compare and if they get hacked.
Haha mystery button eh? Thanks I'll check it out!
The button does do something, but you need to have the micro connected via USB to your computer
@@CrossedCoder now I'm intrigued. It had do to something, otherwise it wouldn't be there.
I get mine in 2 days :-) BTW.
Awesome! Which one did you choose? And no, I didn't hear about the pins, I'll check it out.
@@raccooncitycinema At pre order I wanted the Blue But was forced to get the Red one.
@@raccooncitycinema I want to order the Big Screen Window Micro but i dont want to spent 400 just for that. Im sure someone will print screen one.
Yeah hopefully there'll be one we can buy separately...
Gotcha. Too bad you couldn't get the one you wanted, but they all have some real good games at least.
I checked out the pin set. lol that's crazy expensive! Wouldn't mind having it though
@@raccooncitycinema Another person posted a video of the Rakuttan Bundle with pins and shows him opening it up and came with no Game Gear Micro.
The boot time is the result of linux booting it up
Oh yeah? Then it'll be interesting to see what kinds of things people find and do with this as time goes by
@@raccooncitycinema the button behind is to activate the FEL mode, a common feature on AllWinner SoC
Ah, thanks for solving that mystery! Glad to have a developer here :D
Will get mine hopefully next week to Germany. Thank you for sharing this video, it's fun to watch.
Thank you for watching!
Hope you enjoy it, whichever colors you got. Looks like blue is quite popular.
Where can I buy the limited edition white one please ?
The white aleste one
Any game or electronics shop in Japan according to the website.
@@raccooncitycinema any idea which shop need to try import to UK.
Sorry, no idea. They're taking preorders now in stores, haven't seen it online yet. It releases Dec. 24th
@@raccooncitycinema ok no problem, can’t even find out how to make a rakuten English account that would be anyone’s best bet
I just looked on Amazon Japan and found some listings for the Switch bundle (from resellers). It ain't cheap at 24,500 yen

Kind of want to stuff this into a dreamcast vmu
That'd be amazing! Then put the VMU in the Game Gear micro lol
@@raccooncitycinema do you have a link to order the game gear micro?
I ordered mine from Amazon Japan which I think ships globally, but I'm not sure. It's also on Rakuten and the Sega online store.
