I Ran The David Goggins Challenge | 4x4x48

- 48 miles over 48 hours doesn't sound too bad in the grand scheme of ultra endurance challenges, but when you factor in the sleep deprivation that comes with having to go for a run every four hours, the Goggins Challenge is no small feat. Mark took on the 4x4x48 to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Will you consider taking on this enduring challenge?
No. Never
It's a fun event. Raised a lot of money for charities.
@@bluto2143 glad you enjoyed it!
With no training just to start from scratch!
Never, no
Did it last year with a group of friends. It was awesome. Miserable, but honestly such a great time. The running part was not bad for me as I typically run 40-50 a week. Where it got hard was the lack of sleep and the zero recovery. Probably didn’t sleep more than 3 hours for the two days we were doing the challenge. My advice would be to have a stretch routine after every run, and sleep where you can. Finding some friends to do it with too was also huge. Makes the challenge way more fun when you suffer together.
This kid sounds like a beast
Why not put 2 runs back to back to get 6-7 hours of rest?
@@nk-dw2hm The challenge isn’t really about running 48 miles. It’s about getting up to do something every 4 hours. So you can’t cheat and try and do an 8 mile run and then rest for longer, because the challenge isnt to get to 48 miles, it’s to complete an activity that’s takes around 30-45 minutes every 4 hours for 48 hours.
@@jcc5950 you don't say
My wife did this twice back in 2020 when all of our races got canceled. I just joined her for the overnight runs so she wouldn’t be out alone in the darkness, that was enough for me.
I really wish I lived closer to people who shared this endurance sport like mindedness. I live around the type who love big bellies, big beards, and only enjoy talking about automobiles. 🙄
Great job mark! Great to see you running healthy!
What is your location?
Cheshire ?
Covid affected poor metabolic health. Just do some cardio for heart and brain. No idea why gov not interested in pushing a bit of exercise to keep the economy together. Oh that's right..they want u weak and dependent
haha i can relate to this. Also people are shoked that i run three times a week (which isn't that much?!)
Maybe it’s an opportunity for you to inspire your community to become healthier by leading by example! I’m sure there are people that would be keen!
Maybe is because I was a runner first, but I love that you don’t restrict yourself to multisport and do a lot of running content. 👍
Just completed my first 4x4x48 at midnight last night. The running part was not as bad as I thought, but the lack of sleep (about 5-6 hours total of broken sleep) and you are right, keeping fueled, was also hard. Had some friends for 2 of the runs but the rest was solo. It was still a pretty amazing challenge and I think I will make it an annual thing.
Staying awake and motivated would be the hardest part I presume. Respect to anyone who does this stuff.
This Goggins stuff is another level.
Completed my 4x4x48 a week ago. I wanted to use it as training for running through the night at some ultra marathons I have planned so did 11 of the 12 solo. Also tried to stress myself mentally by each run starting from the same point. It's definitely an achievement to complete but you can adapt to you as an individual so much.
Well done Mark, and thank for introducing me to the charity. What a fabulous charity! Brilliant work, hardcore.
I done this all by myself after COVID cancelled my Ironman. The distance was easy. It's the recovery that's the hardest, the foam rolling got me through. Amazing how your body adapts though because by the end I felt fine and went back to running sub 30 4 miles
Nice work!
Well done! I’ve done it the last two years. Challenging and fun. Goggins is an inspiration. A few logistics to nail down, but overall an incredible experience. I plan on completing it every year 👊🏾💥 stay hard!
Wow, The CAF is so inspiring and a sober reminder to be grateful everyday. Way to get er done mate!
Well done Mark, really impressive to do this in winter as well. Some real logistics to deal with being in different locations
Mark, great job! My name is Mark as well; (Great name by the way); proud of you. I did this challenge 2 years ago and am doing it again next week. I will let you know how it goes; great training and also great cause the Challenged athlete's foundation. I used to work with para and quadriplegic athletes. Love it. Cheers
6:02 .....when I come out of a bar with that swagger, the last thing I want to do is run!! Good work!
I did this last April, personally I found the running easy but I really struggled to get my food in, just didn’t feel hungry at all, I decided to prioritise sleep so I only washed once the whole 48 hours which on reflection is disgusting but I laid towels on my bed to I could just get back from a run and get straight onto my bed without rotting out my bed sheets haha such a good challenge and a great feeling at the end ! Well done on your effort !
Congratulations!! I hadn’t heard of the organization you are raising funds for…they sure do great work. I was happy to donate to such a great cause!!!
Thank you so much!
Going to give this a try after New Year. You should do Fortitude Mark run by Fullsteam Events. 3,4,5 mile loop every hour for 10 hours. Did it with a friend from my triathlon club, neither of us had run a marathon ever but I managed 37 miles and he did just over 40. Your recovery is what ever time you have left over from your previous run. It’s a great challenge and extremely hilly……….no flat
Amazing stuff! Great effort for a great cause too! I’m definitely going to do this too. The “craziness” is as transmissible as omicron
Already dark at 4pm! Excellent challenge.
This video comes at a moment of where the universe rings you what you need. I am in the middle of Goggins’ book (Can’t Hurt Me) and it is amazing. I will watch this video when I put the book down as it grabs you. He is a beast and deservedly so.
Don’t be afraid to follow the advice in each chapter. Changed my life for sure.
Stały hard!
Well done Mark!
That was definitely a challenge!
Very inspiring!
On the donations page, I think its compulsory to enter a USA state, I'm in the UK and only managed to make a donation by saying i was in New York, got it to work in the end.
Well done for raising money for a brilliant charity!
Brilliant work. I'll be documenting my attempt between Xmas and new year 👍
Bob is a great guy. He's funny and just an all round great athlete as well. Living in So Cal I got to know him through triathlon and racing along side him. My wife and I and the tri cub I'm a member of, have contributed to CAF as they are an amazing organization.
Did the 7 1/2 marathons In 7 nights after watching your video only problem was I did it During BEAST FROM THE EAST 2 and temp went down too -11 still shorts weather thought well done depending on races and holidays will pencil this in for early 2022 STAY TUNED 🏃🏻♂️💪😎👏
Mark is the new king of the strava feed spammers 🤣🤣
Great achievement though. You should be very proud!
This is great David made me tough in my hard times instead of sulking he’s an absolute beast
I showed my poodle Goggins interview on Joe Rogan, he’s a wolf now.
Did this with a friend + his family, we started at 9:00 pace and dropped 10 seconds avg pace each run. The lack of recovery + increase in intensity really pushes your limits!
What a fun challenge for a great cause. On a more lighthearted note, would love to see some more GTN challenges, something like the 8-16-24?? Miles, donuts, and beers, pick your poison for each and complete within 24 hours.
24 beers 16 donuts 8 miles. I’ll be done by midday
I did it last year and it was very grueling! Me and my students raised over $2000.
Amazing achievement Mark 🏃🔁💨👍
Well done!! CAF!!
Been waiting for this one, great content 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just finished it yesterday and on the final morning I had over slept the 4am run by 2 hours. I still ran it and immediately after did the 8 am run as well
Wow what an amazing charity anyone who supports this is brilliant 🙂
Wow, sounds like fun and I will give it a try. I am 67 and now powerwalk, ruck and hike as opposed to run anymore (joint stuff). Seems you will suffer from sleep deprivation regardless.
What's most impressive is you did it while working with people keeping you up. If it was just a closed calendar on an easy course I figure a person like you could do it more easily.
To train for the Moab 240 my running partner and I did 4/4/96. I ain't been right since. Or maybe that was Moab🤣
By Far Marks best Thumbnail. Its like a epc movie poster 😁, great job. Hope i can do the 4x4. What a beast! Letz Go! 💪
Well done, love your optimism and great mood all the time
Awesome Mark, love your positivity
Wow, well done Mark, unreal! And even banged out a park run! Stay hard
Great running Mark 😃😃😃🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thanks 👍
Inspirational, well done
I did it last year the last few sections were the hardest, plus it was dry and great weather every run.
Been there done that. Was fun and alot of money raised fir charities.
Congratulations 👏👏👏
glad you gave this video the title it deserves with Goggins' name in it - well adjusted 👍🏼
The video gives him a ton of credit. It’s absolutely his challenge, and I was proud to do it for a great charity
AMAZING VIDEO. WELL DONE.
Great stuff! I loved the 4x4x48 challenge when I did it ...other than the 4am ones, although they were oddly satisfying!
An absolute wonderful and inspiring video
Thank you so much!
Great achievement. Even greater charity!
On the 2022 list. Mind over matter!
Donated. Great job Mark
Thank you very much!
Bravo Mark. This might be something I might do.
well played on doing the 13th run....definitely the right decision, would only have regretted it if you hadn't.
Great video, awesome endeavor. Very inspiring.
Good work, Mark!
With the reflective tabs and the music, that first run looks more like Tron than GTN.
Goggins is the man
Donated! Amazing work.
dude you made it look easy. gz
4 legged running partner 💙
I did this last time and due to a covid curfew did 3 sessions on a rower. Awesome experience but at the 3 last sessions I just wanted it to be over and hated the waiting in between sessions. Cancelling all other activities for 2 days will help a lot :-)
Awesome 👏
Well done Mark
Well done mate
Nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Follow up on my comment, as I hadn’t finished the video. Think about fuelling for the following run, as well as the one you’re on. Tough but it helps. The CAF looks to be a beautiful foundation. Hoping to inspire others this year to join me and raise some money. Heck yea! The 13th run was not even a question in my mind.
You make this look way too easy haha
Did this last year. A great experience. Hardest part was sleep deprivation, calorie intake and clothing (being winter in Canada). Great job Mark
This is great Mark, now you have an average pace to beat, you can do it every year 😂
Cool though, think I’ll give it a go.
We're not sure mark would like that idea 🥴 ..
This is on my to-do list for 2022.
Go on!
Random to see this. I was going to do a challenge myself. I was going to run 3miles every 3hrs for 24hrs lol
💪🦵 stay hard!
I done 13 runs with mine which you cover 52 miles over 48hrs run 1 I started 6pm Thursday and run 13 was 6pm Saturday which makes 48hrs of running and basically covers almost 2 full marathons
Stay Hard
Some awesome work there Mark! And specially the cause GTN is supporting 💪🏽. Will definitely donate. One question..would you recommend out n back runs from home? This way there is no travel time involved, and you can get back to resting quicker. I did the 24hr challenge last year, and I feel like I wasted a lot of time driving to and back from a spot. Time that I could have used for sleep.
Yeah I would just keep it simple. It was really fun meeting people, and it made the video even better. However, I would just keep it straightforward for yourself if you can. Thank you also for the donation - very kind :)
I would be done after the beer
i am proud to say , i done it !
Sounds like it's time to do a Bigs Backyard Ultra. Same format, just....a little less rest lol
I also did the 13th haha, had to make sure it was 48 hours
STAY HARD!
The sleep deprivation reminds me of having a newborn. Everything feels so much harder when you’re tired.
Getting up through the night isn't as bad if you've had a baby lol
i did it for the first time over winter break as a freshmen in 2022
How did you find it? 🤔
@@gtn my dad
Stay hard
09:10 THATS WHAT SHE SAID!
Is it wise to use "box-fresh" shoes for a trial such as this?
What pants and jackets were you wearing when you started? Around 2:47 they are quite reflective and looks like something I could use!
They’re On running. Yeah I didn’t realise how reflective they are until seeing the footage
once i had a beer i am only going to bed ;)
always wanted to do this
Zen do.
Who's the oldest person to complete the challenge. I just finished it on a whim. I will be 65 in a few weeks..
Can't find any info on this.
Im one rep into this right now - ending at the Park Run on New Year’s morning. Not the best time of year to be doing it but this vid was good motivation!
Wow...
My housemate did it last year, I joined him for just over half of them. My god the sleep deprivation ruined him, but he did it.
He couldn't remember the word for 'Bus Stop' on the last run.
More Reggie please!
Does the Sun ever come out in England? 😆
yes, probably for about a week in July
😂
I'm doing it tomorrow
Best of luck Brett, Let us know how you get on!
I hope I look as fresh as Mark by the end of it but a dont think I will🤣
@@gtn I completed the challenge yesterday at 12pm. The hardest thing I have ever done. Had an average split time of 5.78 which I was really happy with. Very sore legs today 😁
I would love to know how you worked your watch
