I'm a former child actor. I'm a generation above the Nick kids, but it was the same abuses, just different clothes and different hairstyles. Every word out of his mouth was about him-- 'I hate how people feel they didn't enjoy their time with me,' 'I want people to have fun on my set,' etc. Everything was centred around his feelings, his wants and needs, and how hurt HE is that other people are upset. I don't trust a word that comes out of this man's mouth, and I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw a car.

Two things bothered me about this interview:
    1) We have to be EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA careful when uncovering any inappropriate behaviors towards children in such situations. This is why such documentaries always annoy me when they are exposing issues, because they always try to bite off more than they can chew and convolute the conversation. If dan schneider was inappropriate with kids, THAT is what the conversation should focus on. Nothing else. When you bring in "pay gaps" and "mean boss" conversations, it gives them a way to skip out of the conversation and just say "I would have removed the videos" and move on to "now let's talk about the pay gap that i had NOTHING to do with. No. Answer the inappropriate behavior. Answer the child abuse. Period.
    2) The fact that he thought "but so many others approved it" was an "excuse" says so much about what we've been screaming about for years. This sh*t is engrained, and not just in Hollywood and the entertainment industries either. There are many industries where people look the other way, either because the person being inappropriate is higher up, or because the behavior is acceptable. And when we talk about it, we're the problem. "But everyone knew" is NEVER an acceptable answer. If anything, it's a reason to burn the whole thing down and build it again!

Many animated films like Shrek have highly inappropriate jokes & innuendos for kids in them too. This Snyder guy is clearly a pervert & a pig, but to pretend his content didn’t go through censors and the FCC is being blind to reality. The FCC is Federal, & not controlled by the execs. My sister and I are twins and we were trying to be recruited by Disney, but we were a little too young and couldn’t form full sentences yet. We ended up moving out of CA so my parents obviously didn’t follow up. Always feel like we dodged a bullet there. I love acting, but you have such little control already. I can’t imagine how helpless you’d feel as a kid and being so impressionable because you’re surrounded by “adults” who you’re supposed to trust.

    • @BabyBoy_Milo
      @BabyBoy_Milo 5 месяцев назад +1

Especially when you’re already around those adults every day all day anyway. The only other dynamic like that for a kid is like their classmates in school. There’s no room for them to understand the boundaries that need to be in place there.
It can feel so easy to feel like you know your coworker better than you know your own friends sometimes when you work a lot. Trying to manage that as a kid would be impossible.
I’m glad you ended up not pursuing it. I’m sure you’re better off

Yes, he can make it up even now - Call each person directly and apologize. Pay the ladies who they were not made whole - that in itself is illegal, shameful, and unfair. I was a costume designer. I worked on some amazing sets and on some where actors clearly tried to use their power over you. Because an actor often wasn’t replaceable but I was.
I was sexually harassed many times by mostly actors. Most of the crew saw what was happening and saw the way an actor would talk to me, try to touch me etc. Nobody ever said anything. One time a makeup department boss has had enough and spoke to the actor. I was forever grateful to her!
We were working 13-16 hour days with one hour for lunch break, last thing you need is person like that on set.
Eventually I stepped out of the film industry. It’s filled with inappropriate people. I haven’t seen minors being mistreated but there was a lot of sexual harassing towards women.

He doesn't seem remorseful, embarrassed, or even angry, which is strange considering the accusations coming out against him. I agree that these two appear to be on very friendly terms and Dan seems to know that he is safe here because he is aware that this interview will be for his benefit and no one else's. Shame on Boogie for conducting such an obviously biased interview and attempting to pass it off as something it's not. Of course, comments are turned off on the original interview, so people can't even voice their opinions. Just another slap in the face to the people who have been so negatively affected by this guy's actions.

Dan Schneider's cadence is smooth and fluent without many random pauses such as; ohs. ahs, hmms as is common with most people in a stressful situation. He appears actually to be quite calm, in control, almost as if he had practiced these responses. Even the interviewer seems to be speaking his lines while providing exposition to the viewer and topic cues to Dan Schneider. Perhaps this "interview" should have been converted to a social media/blog post to avoid these obvious visual pitfalls. Looking forward to part 2 on Observe.

Were they completely oblivious compared to the kids who are now adults? Nope, they simply weren’t the victims of the jokes. They were the perpetrators. The now adult victims are rightfully upset. He is 100% excusing Schneider’s behavior and hyping him up, enabling his excuses and downplays of the horrendous things that happened. And if I remember clearly, there *were* people who came forward and told Dan that they were uncomfortable with stuff, but they weren’t listened to? Like this whole interview just has this gross feeling of them like patting each other on the back. I don’t really think Dan is being sincere in his apologies and it definitely doesn’t feel like he’s holding himself accountable. I haven't heard anyone claiming that Boogie and Dan are good friends as much as commenting on Boogie being Dan's past employee creating a power imbalance.
For example; in the documentary they show Dan being presented an award by bunch of Nick stars like Drake Bell. While presenting the award, they're all saying how Dan is basically why they have careers. It's very possible Boogie had been made to feel that way too.
But while there's still a power dynamic at play between them: it's important to note that Boogie was an adult working for Dan.
In this interview they essentially use Boogie as an example of someone who worked for Dan who didn't have a problem with him. But when most of the complaints are coming from kids or women working with Dan, having a male adult offer a contradictary experience comes off as detracting from the issues.
Yeah it's likely Boogie never had a problem with Dan, because he wasn't in the groups Dan was targeting with his bad behaviors, making his experience less relevant in this specific context.
Also Boogie says he reached out to Dan but the interview is on Dan's channel which is sus.

My issue with the approval from other executives he brings up is that he could have made the conscious decision to not have these jokes at all? Like yes they were approved by other people and they should be held responsible too but a simple solution to these jokes is to not make them? That would make it so the jokes didn't even need to be approved anyways cause they would have never existed. It makes me so frustrated that he can't own up to what he did as being wrong. He basically puts the blame on others. I also question why he thought these jokes were appropriate in the first place? He should question why he would make jokes such as these in the first place. There is also such a power imbalance at play. As the documentary showed the parents and kids were afraid of bringing things up to Dan which clearly shows that they didn't feel safe on the set or safe bringing things up too Dan. So therefore no one felt like they could speak up. Going back to the golden boy thing as well he then has the power of being the money maker putting him in a position where people aren't going to question him. The executives and whoever is approving these are looking at him as our cash cow. He should be aware of the power and sway he holds and how that influences situations and people around him. But he refuses to take any actual accountability. There is just so much wrong about how he has handled this and also these accusations of him have been around for years yet he decides to just address things now. If he really cared I feel like he would have said something years ago.
