    • Grass-fed beef
    • Pasture-raised, organic egg yolks
    • Walnuts
    • Chia seeds
    • Flax seeds
    • Dark leafy green vegetables

(At 0:47) Yellow (carotenoid) pigment in the macula serves to absorb blue-wavelength and shorter-wavelength, high-energy light, thereby sparing this area from damage. As the lens brings objects into focus, it also admits a great amount of damaging UV wavelengths which would damage the macula without the yellowish pigment.

Something very important that you left out is Vitamin C. Which is the reason why a lot of sugary foods deteriorate the eyes. For me hands down the number one best food where I really notice a difference in my eyes is one you did not mention at all- for me CAPSICUM is THE BEST! Especially the orange and yellow ones. They are super high in vitamin C, have the carotenoids from beta carotene to lutein to zeaxanthin mesozeaxanthin. Personally I have to say that nothing works as great as bellpeppers. And I do consume everything else that you mention but never noticed a difference in my eyes. I am sure it helps also but when i eat extra bellpeppers I can directly tell how my eyesight sharpens up, it works right away. Hope this was helpful.

I’ve had astigmatism nearly my entire life if not all as I wasn’t given glasses until I was 9 years old. 40 years later my eye doctor told me in my last visit that I no longer have astigmatism in my left eye. It’s gone. He said that he’s never seen that happen before. He said he’s seen reduction but not a complete healing. I’ve been going to him, nearly every year for 20 plus years so he’s the only doctor that has been monitoring my vision health. He got me on Lutein and I’ve taken it daily for nearly 8 years or longer as there were gaps. He also says there’s been no further macular degeneration for at least 12 years but probably longer. He noticed some degeneration about 5 years or so after I started seeing him. I started wearing the wrap around sun glasses and added a Lutein supplement. He noticed some minor degeneration over the next few visits but minor and some years none. Now there’s been a lengthy gap with no degeneration at all.

I started on this journey with Dr Berg and Low Carb Keto back in 2016. I detoured away from my regimen during Covid through the end of last year. I still did no to low sugar and intermittent fasting, but added in carbs like grains, pasta and potatoes. I tried to keep it moderate, but I stopped counting so I’m certain I went way over moderate. I think IF (16-18) and low to no sugar is what helped me stay somewhat on track. I’ve found that my body isn’t meant to eat higher carbs. Unfortunately higher carbs worsen my stress, energy level and insomnia so these things got worse and I gained a little weight. Stress and lack of sleep can derail your health just as much if not more than eating the wrong foods. I’ve been back on a low carb keto lifestyle for about 6 months. My anxiety has gone way down to near nil and although I’m still battling insomnia, I feel far more rested with limited sleep than I did eating a higher carb diet. I have POTs and I truly believe that my health suffered when I veered away from Keto. I went from minimal symptoms to near debilitating in two years. I can now say that I’m on my way back to trying to manage my symptoms with Keto and finding a physical and nutritional balance that works for POTs.

@@awaisshafiq5692 It’s different everyday. I used to meal prep and make two different meals and eat them for a week, but not lately. I only eat 2 meals a day and 1-2 snacks, or no snack. I try to fast 16-18 hours. It’s honestly so easy to eat keto that sharing what I eat in a few sentences may not be very helpful, but its best to use an app to track your macros, simply avoid grains, potatoes, starchy veggies, legumes, nuts too if you’re strict keto, but I don’t avoid all of them. I use almond flour, almond butters, walnuts, occasionally organic peanut butter. I don’t eat rice or pasta. No seed oils, just grass fed butter, olive or coconut oil. No salad dressing, just olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My big thing right now is making big salads with 4 cups of mixed greens, avocado, chicken, boiled eggs, ginger or dill flavored fermented sauerkraut, gorgonzola, feta or blue cheese crumbles, real bacon bits, chopped walnuts, avocado oil, fig flavored balsamic vinegar. Best salad ever. I eat lowest carbs 5-10%, moderate protein 30-35%, and higher healthy fats 70-80%. If you search RUclips you’ll fund a ton of Keto recipes. If my playlist didn’t include non-keto recipes, I’d share it, but theres a lot of non-keto recipes that I saved because I learned to cook them ketogenic. So I don’t want to confuse people. I need to start making videos. I can pretty much cook anything ketofied.

Optometrist here --- Number 1 best thing to do for eyes is to avoid smoking of anything. The capillaries of the retina are very easily damaged by toxins in any smoke. Also, smoking decreases oxygen and increase carbon monoxide in the lens of the eye. Number 2 best thing to do for eyes is avoid high levels of ultra violet light. The greatest source of ultra violet light for your eyes is the sun. There are both short term and long term eye damage secondary to ultra violet light. The epithelium layer of cornea can be sun-burnt by ultraviolet sun rays -- this will be obvious if this happens, as it hurts like Hell. The long term eye damage from ultra violet is more insidious as symptoms are slow to develop, without symptoms and are irreversible. In addition to a well balanced, high in fruit & vegetable diet is to avoid smoking and to wear HIGH QUALITY sunglasses. ( UV coating is required by law, on all sunglasses; however, the government has never enforced this law -- ask your optometrist for recommendations on high quality lenses).

What is your recommendation on taking liquid MSM to aid permeability in maintaining eye health. I've been taking about 142 mg a day for a few years now (along with fish oils and some Lutein).
At 66 years old, and combined with daily intermittent fasting, these have kept my vision in both eyes at 20/15 and with excellent acuity and contrast, and excellent low-light/nighttime vision.
I'd like your thoughts specifically on taking MSM internally and how it aids eye health. Thank you for all you freely give us for our health and well-being Dr. Berg and staff!

The most important nutrient for the eyes is DHA, which is an omega-3 fatty acid.
DHA has many important functions and protects against macular degeneration and inflammation. It also inhibits the formation of extra blood vessels in the eyes that could affect vision. DHA is destroyed by blue light, UV light, and omega-6 fatty acids.
Carotenoids are also very protective for the eyes, specifically lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin.
The best foods to support the eyes:
    • Oily cold-water fish (bluefin tuna, salmon, herring, cod liver, cod liver oil, oysters, and sardines)
    • Grass-fed beef
    • Pasture-raised, organic egg yolks
    • Walnuts
    • Chia seeds
    • Flax seeds
    • Dark leafy green vegetables
    • Shrimp
It's also crucial to avoid omega-6 fatty acids and sugar to support healthy eyes.
