Great vid Brant. I trim every bit of red off the fillets and it makes a difference. I've eaten sail cats several times when my kids caught and entered then in local youth tournaments and you'd be hard pressed to tell them from freshwater channel cats.
I visited home (Brandon, Florida) with my sons and wife back in June and my dad and I took his boat out of Hernando Beach and I couldn't get any shrimp (yeah...I know...the bait shops were all out short of frozen shrimp) so I used small pinfish. I caught a big 34" cobia on a medium action 6'6" Penn Pursuit II rod and reel with 15 lb mono along with a 4' blacktip. I really don't know how I caught those fish on that 15 lb mono, but it was alot of fun. Took me a while to reel in that cobia. It fought so hard and took alot of drag.
We did the same thing one time trolling in about 100 ft of water looking for Gag and snapper when this huge Cobia comes swimming right up to the boat out of the blue, chucked out a rubber Eel and we had cobia for supper that night. You were talking about being fish slapped Noobies, I was waiting to see how green those cobia were, they were pretty worn down, talk about being slapped around when you put a cobia in the boat too soon. The first one I ever caught (years ago) got too anxious, hauled it up too quick and just about beat the boat to death.
Once fried a gag grouper and red grouper the same way you did in this video. You could tell the difference big time. The gag grouper was so much tastier then the red. I've yet to catch a cobia. You made it look so easy.
Hey brant I'm a huge fan and I'm in Pensacola until Friday night I'd like to meet with you or maybe even go fishin with you I watch your videos all the time and you have taught me a lot about salt water fishing. I don't really know where to go but I've caught some Spanish mackerel at fort pickins, anyway thanks for teaching me about saltwater fishin
I now only get to salt water fish 2 or 3 times a year so I don't get to eat it fresh as much as I used too when I was younger, but I'm just the opposite, my favorite way is a cajun spiced buttermilk corn muffin batter and deep fried in Hotter oil and less time than I would with other fish like snapper, you get a crispy, tasty coating with the cobia still fairly moist and flavorful.
Can't believe how crazy brave (or curious) those Cobia are---the way you can just cast out to them so easily without them getting spooked by the site of the boat. I don't think you can do that with Reds can you? My brother caught one 2 days ago off Crystal River/Homosassa and he gave me two nice fat filets. I cooked them in olive oil in a pan (with just salt and pepper) and covered them with lemon juice and they were delicious.
Talk about sight fishing cobia! They made it easy on that one. Totally BA! Awesome vid. If you get another cobia soon, do a cobia sandwich catch and cook. Best fish sandwich I ever had!
And just to clarify, it was grilled! LOL Not hating on ya for frying it, just agreeing with ya! It was actually oak grilled, so maybe something a little extra to try. The slightly oak smoked flavor really complimented the taste of the cobia.
I agree, fish taste like fish ,lol..we do prefer ours grilled , and agree that some of the texture is different, but like you said on the most part, it's fish, probably the biggest exception is grilled yellow fin tuna, grilled rare, we think it tastes like prime rib..lol..but we do like the firmer texture fish, that's our 2 cents...Thanks, enjoy all 3 of you guys vlogs!
I really enjoy your videos. Will you do any surf fishing videos? I would like to see you show some of your terminal rigs. I'm going to Tybee in late September and surf fishing. Not much surf here in Tennessee.
My family and I go to Gulf Shores every year to fish and we catch a ton of mackerel. Would love to see a Catch and Cook seeing as though we're never really sure how to cook em' up
how expensive is it to charter your boat for a fishing excursion? I have always wanted to go ocean fishing and try for various types of fish and seafood.
Hey, Brant. Killer video! I'm 17 and I'm considering choosing the path to become a fishing guide because fishing is my passion. Do you have any advice for someone in my position?
Fishing North Florida Sure. Learn to be a great online marketer. The charter business is becoming flooded with people trying to be guides. If you can't find a way to separate yourself from the crowd then you'll get lost in the mix. It's becoming a tough industry to build a business in.
Glad to have found this video in my recommended. Subbed. Love the vid bro Anything I should know before deciding to be a guide or not? I've got about 5 years b4 I might move to Florida Fishing is my passion
Hey Brant, awesome video, I previously had no desire to target cobia but then that double up was awesome! Just curious why the bobo didn't make it in the box? After your taste test I thought I would see more of them headed home with people. Keep up the good work man!
So the other day I watched you catch a red snapper with a piece of banana, really! Ok who am I kidding, loved it!!! How bout a series where you try different items (not meant for fishing) to catch fish
I love Mackrel, I prefer fillets opposed to Mackrel patties, and I do not like Salmon or Trout. I love catching Trout, but do not eat them, I give them to others.
you dont need to season your fish "heavily" as you say. if you bleed the fish (cut its gills open) you never get a fishy flavor of the meat. its in the blood the fish taste is. so yeah, try it out, and yes there will be a little bloody but hey, its so worth it trust me! lightly season with some salt and lemonpepper.
Cobia is good but a large part of its craze is that its not a fish that you can go out and catch each day of the week. So since its rare catch people make much more of it.
Oh my gosh those spanish are tiny ! We get them over 20 kg here in ausi, small cobia too , my pb is 18kg , i cant understand why you deep fry it and season the heck out of it, dude if you want your cobia to have flavor then just crumb it like you did , cook it in a little butter, not oil, cook it only 1/4 of the way thru then flip it and cook a 1/4 thru agand take it off the heat and let stand for a minute or two then eat it, no salt or pepper , youl be supprised how good it tastes, enjoy 😎
Some fish have a stronger taste, bluefish has nice strong fish taste so is Jack Crevelle, to me Spanish macs have a less strong fish taste. I can cook the bluefish head on a pot to make soup and and you can taste the fish but on a mullet, or Spanish Mac doesn't give fish taste on soup. My experience is some fish have a stronger fish taste than others. On fish with less fish taste I usually add more salt but on another example is salmon I use less salt it also has a stronger fish taste. Some fish you can add all the salt you want and nothing.
Azarias H. I'm not a guide but I've been on multiple excursions around the world. The one thing that ruins the experience the most is bringing friends during charters.
Azarias H. The same advice I gave another kid in this thread. Separate yourself from the crowd when it comes to marketing. There are TONS of people trying to become guides. If you aren't a good online marketer you'll never get any business. There's too much competition right now.
Great day on the water Capt. Definitely happy clients. Now I need to find a Cobia. The search begins now.
Key West Kayak Fishing Thanks, Steve. Good luck!
I've always wanted to try cobia. It's making my mouth water just watching you guys eat it!
Cobia are ok to eat. Good on the grill but not the best tasting fish in the sea
bring him closer I'm gonna stick em lol. looks like a great day on the water.
Pure joy on your clients faces.
RickandRobs Outdoor adventures yeah they had a blast!
The best right here!
EliasVFishing Sup my boi
EliasVFishing hey, I like your channel and this channel!
Glad to hear the fish are migrating in
Great vid Brant. I trim every bit of red off the fillets and it makes a difference. I've eaten sail cats several times when my kids caught and entered then in local youth tournaments and you'd be hard pressed to tell them from freshwater channel cats.
Gotta say, just started watching your videos and I'm in love with your style, so good. Keep it up
one of the best or the best channel i have ever seen about fishing.
Brant, Love these videos man! Keep up the great work you've been killing the game!
Appreciate it!
Yes sir, I do like catch and cook videos...Nicely done...Thumbs up....
I visited home (Brandon, Florida) with my sons and wife back in June and my dad and I took his boat out of Hernando Beach and I couldn't get any shrimp (yeah...I know...the bait shops were all out short of frozen shrimp) so I used small pinfish. "There's like a ... tang!"
*probably the lemon...*
lol
but its other name is actually lemonfish, maybe it does taste like lemon
AnglerUp with Brant what u should do is make a video with all of ur knots on that 7 strand and knots on ur mono leader. that would be very helpful
Gannon Casey hey

That was awesome watching the cobia bite. Great footage as always.
that kid gave that snapper A AnglerUp Beaten! Great Channel!
Cobia is one of the best taking fish I've ever eaten. I recommend it grilled.
Once fried a gag grouper and red grouper the same way you did in this video. You could tell the difference big time. The gag grouper was so much tastier then the red. I've yet to catch a cobia. You made it look so easy.
You're really nice to that kid and I'm sure your client got his money's worth you set them up to catch plenty of fish. Nice job
That double cobia part..awesome footage and fishing!!
Shark!!! Thats where it's at. A ton of them caught and nobody eats them. They are really good. Used to keep them all the time when we went out.
Hell yeah, Jack! It was this big so I kept it!🎣🍻
thats was the best double cobia catch ever maaaaaaaaan.

Capturing that cobia hook up on camera was awesome Brant! Keep up the good work 👍
Yeah that was pretty cool man
Talk about sight fishing cobia! They made it easy on that one. Totally BA! Awesome vid.

Appreciate it man. Cobia sandwich sounds good!
Here in Australia cobia is in my top four along with Coral Trout, pearl perch and venus tuskfish 😁
great catching those fish at end
Nice work, Capt' ...

Just found your channel! Alot of great content. What knot do you use for the wire leader?
I can tell you cobia makes an awsome saviche.😎
I love eating fish but I generally don't keep many. But I do love Sea Robin and Fluke.
I asked my dad years ago, (an avid fisherman all his life) what is the best tasting fish in the ocean and his answer was cobia.
That eat right beside to boat was sick!

I really enjoy your videos. Will you do any surf fishing videos? I would like to see you show some of your terminal rigs. I'm going to Tybee in late September and surf fishing. Not much surf here in Tennessee.
Ken Renfro Thanks. I've done one. Go watch my oven baked Pompano video.

My family and I go to Gulf Shores every year to fish and we catch a ton of mackerel. Would love to see a Catch and Cook seeing as though we're never really sure how to cook em' up

Damn nice job on the cobia. You got some good footage of the 2nd one eating.
Another awesome video dude!!
Sam SWG Thanks!
Good stuff brant!
Thanks!
I challenge you to try some puffer fish. They are so easy to clean and taste great especially with Tajin seasoning!!!
how expensive is it to charter your boat for a fishing excursion? I have always wanted to go ocean fishing and try for various types of fish and seafood.

Start out as a deckhand to learn the basics before you try to run things yourself.

Fishing is my passion
Hey Brant, awesome video, I previously had no desire to target cobia but then that double up was awesome!
Just curious why the bobo didn't make it in the box? After your taste test I thought I would see more of them headed home with people. Keep up the good work man!
Gregory Childers Thanks! They wanted to release it. I kept a few yesterday though and my clients loved it.
AnglerUp with Brant, cool, just checking! It's pretty cool knowing that most fish out there are edible & enjoyable.
im a fisher woman great video.
Hope we can catch some this yr.
good fun pardner enjoy youre clips
Love the vids... I think if you keep making this videos at least twice a week you will hit 100,000 subs by the end of the year
I might try that!
You should do a catch and cook right on the beach, just take a portable grill and grill it up right there.
Good idea.
Nice work!!
Brant, i live in Pensacola and want to go fishing on the boat!
So the other day I watched you catch a red snapper with a piece of banana, really! Ok who am I kidding, loved it!!! How bout a series where you try different items (not meant for fishing) to catch fish
Jerry Perez Good idea. It's something I've thought of. I may start that in the future.
Salmon has a different taste and one of the best tasting fish. My favorite fish to eat is bluefish doesn't need to much salt.
I definitely enjoy ur videos... Very interesting n informative... How much do your charter run?
Tyree Jennings Thanks. Check out my site www.captainbrant.com
that's a good dinner!!!

Awesome vid bro!
Marcus McAlister Fishing Thanks man
Love the videos. Would you eat carp out of the allegheny river?
eric cook Probably not! lol
When you run into trouble so she probably big using the haywire twist but I mean do whatever works right
shark is awesome also. There's a lot of people that don't know, you can eat shark.
I love Mackrel, I prefer fillets opposed to Mackrel patties, and I do not like Salmon or Trout. I love catching Trout, but do not eat them, I give them to others.
Brandt trying to move people off cobia... You know what, I completely agree. People please start throwing these big trash fish back. 😜
yeah grilled it's freaking awesome, fried is just not the right way to do cobia justice . you do have a point about the fish being fish though
you dont need to season your fish "heavily" as you say. if you bleed the fish (cut its gills open) you never get a fishy flavor of the meat. its in the blood the fish taste is. so yeah, try it out, and yes there will be a little bloody but hey, its so worth it trust me! lightly season with some salt and lemonpepper.

I agree.
awesome video
Brant what type of oil do you use when frying fish?
I use olive oil. It's more expensive but better and healthier.
what rod/reel setup did you catch the cobias on?
Oh my gosh those spanish are tiny ! We get them over 20 kg here in ausi, small cobia too , my pb is 18kg , i cant understand why you deep fry it and season the heck out of it, dude if you want your cobia to have flavor then just crumb it like you did , cook it in a little butter, not oil, cook it only 1/4 of the way thru then flip it and cook a 1/4 thru agand take it off the heat and let stand for a minute or two then eat it, no salt or pepper , youl be supprised how good it tastes, enjoy 😎
Fishing video!!!
Brother you should do a catch and cook with ribbon fish!
john m good idea. We haven't seen many around our area lately.
great video nice catches
Thanks!

you should do a Spanish Mackerel vs. King Mackerel catch and cook
WH Outdoors Already planned on it. Thanks
The smaller cobia actually tastes a lot better than those 80 to 140 lbs ones and dif not fried .
Hey Brant, what bait did you throw to those Cobia??
cigar minnows
What advice can you give for an aspiring Saltwater guide. Thanks in advance
Azarias H. I'm not a guide but I've been on multiple excursions around the world. The one thing that ruins the experience the most is bringing friends during charters.
