  • Travelling/Flying with your EuroMini? You can easily put it inside a standard suitcase. Depending on the airline, you can avoid paying the premium "sports luggage fee".
    Suitcase interior dimensions: 29" X 19.5" X 13" (expanded)
    External dimensions: 31" X 21" X 14" (expanded)

    Thank you for this video. I had no idea that a Dahon 20" folding bike could fit in a standard 31" x 21" Samsonite suit case, and quite handily, too. Thank you!

    This is great. I am planning to do this for a trip to the California coast this spring with my Zizzo. Thanks for sharing this and confirming the fit of the bike into a suitcase!
    Bringing a bike on a plane isn’t for everyone, especially picky overthinkers. But for the rest of us, this is the perfect option. Throw it in the suitcase, and enjoy!

      I bought the biggest hard sided suitcase I could find on Amazon- 32”. And it fits but awkwardly. United barely bats an eye. I pack around it but it will be overweight. My most recent trip, the suitcase got punctured but I blame it on the cheap suitcase not the bike.

    1) Put a 1-2 inch layer of clothes at the bottom (shirts, pants, shorts)
    2) Use a towel or thick tarp material to isolate the clothes from the bike
    3) Place bike and all parts inside
    4) Use plastic bags and place underwear, socks and all other crap you will be needing for your trip like underwear, socks, toiletries and other crap.
    5) see step 2 above
    6) Place the backpack you will use above layer on 5 above, add jacket and raingear.
    A HARDCASE is DEFINITELY a better solution.

    I don't see how this method wouldn't bend the derailleur. I recommend taking off the derailleur and wrapping it in foam then taping it to the frame before placing it in the luggage.

      That's a great suggestion! As with method used for packing a bike, there are "costs and benefits". It's up to each rider to determine the "risks/costs vs the benefits/protection" they feel comfortable with ;-)

    Unfortunately, given the combined measurements of 66", this suitcase would NOT be considered standard size since it exceeds 62". As I previously wrote, you might get away with 63" or even 64" but a 66" suitcase might look suspiciously oversized enough that the check-in agent could measure it.

    If you put the derailleur down, won't it damage the unit?

    • @ZiZZOBikes
      @ZiZZOBikes  6 месяцев назад

      Hey @neeleshkushte6023 Great comment!
      If there is any weight/load on the derailleur (for example, laying the bike on the derailleur side, as you mention) there is a possibility that the derailleur or derailleur hanger can get damaged.
      Always make sure to keep weight/load off the derailleur AND pad/protect it when traveling.

    The suitcase is described as a standard 31 x 21. I'm not sure why the width wasn't mentioned (unless I missed it) since it would determine if the suitcase would be considered oversized . The maximum for the width would have to be 10" (pretty narrow) adding up to 62". An 11" or 12" width probably would still go under the radar so what was the width of the suitcase?

    It looks like the axel post could push through the side of the suitcase and/or otherwise be vulnerable to damage. Is this an issue, or am I being too finicky?

    • @ZiZZOBikes
      @ZiZZOBikes  2 года назад

      Hey Terry> Great observation and valid point. Though we have not heard of any issues to this specific point, it could be chalked up to luck! Prevention is the best cure, right? As a suggestion, if you are planning on traveling with your bike, save the plastic axle protector (from the original shipping) and reuse it for packing your bike in a suitcase.

      Traveled recently with one. Although the post did NOT make it all the way through the suitcase wall, there was a small cut. On the return trip, I simply put the quick-release back through the wheel, and I make sure that the side with the lever was the one that made contact with the suitcase wall. This seemed to work much better.

      Having just returned from a trip using the shipping box, I’m now looking for a suitcase big enough for my Zizzo.
      Cons of a box: no handles, no wheels, will be scrutinized by baggage carriers, when TSA opens it, they may not pack it back up well, and you have to pack tape. Also, my guess is a box would last a max of 4 flights based on how my current box looks.

      Think of this situation like a car's seatbelt: In an accident: the seatbelt will not prevent ALL injuries, but it will help prevent some!

    • @ZiZZOBikes
      @ZiZZOBikes  3 года назад +1

      Hello Arya and thank you for your question!
      The short answer is, " It depends on the size of the suitcase!" The forte (with some slight modifications like pedal and seatpost removal) would probably fit in a "standard" checked suitcase.
      We do have a short write up and video you can see here:
      zizzo.bike/blogs/news/leaving-on-a-jet-plane?_pos=1&_sid=370cb3505&_ss=r
      We also sell a travel case you can view here:
      zizzo.bike/collections/accessories/products/zizzo-folding-bike-luggage
      This case is specifically designed for traveling with your bike., BUT is slightly larger than most airlines "standard checked bag" and may incur an "oversize" fee.
      Please let us know if you have any other questions.

      I just did a test with my new Forté and the problem is the folded frame is still pretty wide at the bottom of front fork so it sits too high in the case on that corner. Which means fork may get bent in unless you add something in the drop out to hold fork apart. Also I could only get one wheel in as the 2nd wheel makes case stick up even higher. I always check two bags anyway so I can put 2nd wheel in another suitcase.
