The difference is that the civic is a poor man's project. You can build one of these civics for a fraction of the cost opposed to a stock gtr that's pushing 10sec. How much you think it'll cost you to get it to 6sec? If you have the money to each their own, however I give credit where it's due and for a 4 banger that shit is insanely fast.

A GTR is legendary status not just in tuning, but out of the box, maybe old now, but it has always repped for japan as the fastest production car and tuning cars. How long ago. No comparison, hondas best factory car what nsx nice car but didnt beat anyone on its release, gtr old man now and still eats nsx and any japanese manufacturer for that matter out of the box. How many years it took honda tuners to realize going awd, and turbo, something that civics and integras dont have. So u gotta go way beyond what the car really is to make it fast. And its what 1000kg lil car, so it doesnt matter how many ccs, look at bikes, does ccs matter no power to weight ratio. Compare apples to apples, not watermelons to grapes, weight is key. Can an nsx take on a GTR? Talking about hondas best effort hell no. It gets obliterated. Gtrs setting records in full body guise, that honda aint even a car, a daily, just a shell. Anyone can build a lightweight fiberglass body car throw a small engine 4g63 evo gearbox and see if it aint faster than the civic. Did anyone forget about how monsters evos are, the only thing the honda got in its favor is less weight. I had an 96 civic type r hatch loved it, but i got my ass handed to me by just about everything on the road, 240sx, silvias, put a t3t4 turbo on it, got faster but front wheel made it hard to launch on street tyres, sold it, got an evo straight out of the box a monster, quick, fast, weapon the street. Got a nissan fuga 350gt my daily for 7 years now, completely stock, blows the doors of any of its japanese rivals, even german rivals of its same year. Nissan fastest productions cars from japan, period. R390 gt1, r32,r33,r34 skylines, r35 gtr, gtr50, silvias,z, zx, 240sx. Nuff said. Pulsar gtir, fastest hatch of its time. If they aint no more because they quit, nuff said. But still one hell of a fast civic. It just vanishes in the horizon. Damn. Even american muscle fears this.
