It was indeed. I was in the audience and it was filmed on two days, this day Robbie Williams was on (turned up in a wig, girl took a picture, he had her camera taken off her) Skunk Anansie, Macca closed the show, Travis were on too. Peter Reid was there pissed up. Previous night Prince was on (I kid you not). I saw his big gold symbol backdrop thing propped up in the wings. Donna Air presented. Good times...
Definitely one of their most classic tracks. I remember first hearing this on the NPR audio recording from the 2006 show at 9:30 in DC, was blown away by it.
There must be two versions of this video. I remember he sang, "on The Tube" after "when we're on stage" when I saw it on TV. The programme was repeated so they must've swapped it with this version when they showed it again. I always thought this sounded better than the version that ended up on Jonathan David.
Andrew Irvine I also absolutely remember seeing the version where Stuart sang “on the tube” - you’re not imagining it. And totally, bar the forgotten words, this is far superior to the fairly mediocre (in relative terms) recording on Jonathan David. Somewhere there exists an early studio recording of Lord Anthony, circa 98 (Stuart sold it for charity on eBay) - I bought one demo CD off him but didn’t get that one. Would love to hear it.
In reply to 38 Highbury, yes indeed Prince was on - singing The Greatest Romance Ever Sold. He did a lovely turn, starting with jumping off the drum riser into the splits as I remember it. If anyone has it and doesn't mind pissing the little genius fella off, it's worth sharing
I'm almost certain it was at the old Tyne Tees studio's just down the road from where I live? Macca was there and they were breaking off inbetween acts to speak to the stars in the 'Egypt Cottage' bar next door. I think it was a one-off episode of the Tube.
No dislikes for this poignant tune. Love 'em with all my heart.

I was there too. It was the Apocalypse Tube from 1999.

I love this song. Great performance.
Ideally, that coda could do with being about an hour longer.

Love Sarah but Isobel had such attitude; in a good way!!!!!!
But do you remember where it was?
It was filmed in studio 5, the same studio at Tyne Tees Television where The Tube was filmed in the ‘80s.
