Islam isn't the real problem but the perception of Islam by certain ethnic communities who self impose certain ideals and beliefs onto others and I'm talking primarily about the Pakistani community here in the UK.
I agree sometimes there is a big difference between "Islam" and "Cultural Islam" especially from the Pakistani Community. The challenge is how do we stamp that out of generations upon generations who thing this is the correct Islamic behaviour. We r constantly pressuring the Indian society to do better which it is getting to. The rape against women in Uk is about 10-11 times that in India(according to official figure). Lubna says that when you are born in a certain religion then you are brainwashed about that religion. I would like to correct her on that one. One is not necessarily brainwashed. It depends on the family and the surroundings you grow up in. I was born in a Hindu family and there are many things I disagree in Hinduism and say so openly. I went to a Jesuit school and had friends from other religions, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, etc and different states as my class mates who are still in touch with each other and respect each other. We still without fail wish each other on our various festivals even though many of us stay in different parts of India and the world. I was never taught about religion either in school by my teachers or in my house by my parents. My mom was a devout Hindu who prayed regularly which is not so in my case and I don't visit temples as such nor do I pray daily. My parents never imposed religion on me. I am not an atheist but I believe in and have a direct hotline with the creator of this universe and all that exists in it and to me my beliefs are personal and are none of any other people's business. In short I am not brainwashed and I don't display my religion on my sleeves. In the end it is education that matters.

In fact, it's common for Indian men and women to talk and interact with each other. Women's rights and women's freedom is much better in India now than it has been in the past. Islam isn't the real problem but the perception of Islam by certain ethnic communities who self impose certain ideals and beliefs onto others and I'm talking primarily about the Pakistani community here in the UK.

Lubna says that when you are born in a certain religion then you are brainwashed about that religion. I would like to correct her on that one. One is not necessarily brainwashed. It depends on the family and the surroundings you grow up in. I was born in a Hindu family and there are many things I disagree in Hinduism and say so openly. I went to a Jesuit school and had friends from other religions, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, etc and different states as my class mates who are still in touch with each other and respect each other. We still without fail wish each other on our various festivals even though many of us stay in different parts of India and the world. I was never taught about religion either in school by my teachers or in my house by my parents. My mom was a devout Hindu who prayed regularly which is not so in my case and I don't visit temples as such nor do I pray daily. My parents never imposed religion on me. I am not an atheist but I believe in and have a direct hotline with the creator of this universe and all that exists in it and to me my beliefs are personal and are none of any other people's business. In short I am not brainwashed and I don't display my religion on my sleeves. In the end it is education that matters.
