I love how you do less famous as it were, marathons and races. It really highlights them for us (and them) and I think makes you so relatable to the every day runner hunting down races where logistics and expense is a deciding factor to a lot of our choices.
Thanks, I enjoy the big races but I also enjoy the smaller more local ones too... and for me its about once again, going back to basics, sleeping in my own bed the night before and taking as much stress away from the day itself as possible so I can run as best as possible!
Love the sound of your plans 🤌 I recently did Edinburgh and am looking at chester for my next marathon. Also looking to focus on speed in between those and then have a relatively short specific block for Chester. So will soon find out how this goes 😆 keep up the amazing content, watching yours and few others videos really inspired me to start posting videos of my own running journey so thank you 🙏
I totally get Abingdon as your choice. I ran my pb there back in 2004 (2:42.10) and Dawn ran well there last year. In terms of pre-race logistics far more straightforward than even Manchester and Yorkshire, never mind London. Chester runs it close for ease of access on the morning. Hope to see you there, if I can get my mechanics sorted enough to get me round a marathon.
Thanks... yeah its much easier isnt it, much more chilled and logistically, if you can get it right on the morning without too much stress then you're bound to have a better race! Ah that would be awesome to see you guys there!
I’m also running Abingdon! Would be great to meet you. Hoping to get sub3:45 for that one. Thanks for your speed session videos - I find them really helpful.
I ran the Battersea half last November and ran a 1:28 for my first sub 90min half. My experience was similar to your 10k though. It was Dull as it was 8 and a half laps, and frustrating as by lap 2 you were dodging slower runners constantly. I felt there were too many runners for the course and they really needed to enforce the no headphones rule. There were quite a few near misses. Its certainly fast, but I couldn't recommend it.
Yeah I always said if I went back to Battersea park, it would be for a 5k only.... I am tempted with the flat and fast nature of the course but the park in general also got crowded... let alone with the other runners so it made it quite tricky!
Great choice Andy 👍 can’t imagine doing 6 laps and trying to dodge lots of people! Looking forward to following your progress. Plus I’ll see you on the Abingdon start line 🎉🏃 going for a sub 2:50 so might see you for a minute or two 😂
Take this as a compliment, as intended, but: it's watching your videos that have inspired/guilted me into signing up for my next half in October! Putting it all to the test, maintaining a routine of running, trying to batter a PB, i can't watch your videos and basically lie there with a brew and a biscuit!
Thanks for sharing your experiences with double threshold. Its something I would like to implement as I try and get my age grading performances to improve. I'm hoping to get to the UK to do the Saucony 10K in July.
Check out the recent sweat elite podcast with Rory Linkletter. Ran a 2:08/09? coming off a 3:59 mile speed training block before the marathon block. Now he's off to the olympics in the marathon with a 5k block to start.
What’s the Abingdon course like mate? Pencilled in for Chester but may consider switching. Am aiming to go sub 2:40 & would like a fair group to work with.
5 miles out, 2 loops of 9 miles, 3 and a bit back to the finish... I think! Really enjoyed it, its fast, a few very small inclines but they are minor... its a really fast course and attracts fast runners... anywhere from 2:30 and below you'll have a pack

Sounds like a great plan Andy! I sense a marathon PB incoming at Abingdon!!!
Thanks buddy, I’ll definitely be going for it!

Abingdon is a good call. Im back there next year. Amsterdam this time. Here's to a happy healthy training block.
Good luck for amsterdam buddy!
Looking forward to the 16 miles @ MP video 💪
You know its coming haha
Yeah - Andy for the win
Good luck Andy, I shall watch your progress with interest, love your training videos as I often put the sessions into my training!
Thanks buddy!
Loving the confidence right now. Can’t wait for London 10km. See you there

Amazing, see you there 👊
Looking forward to following this program. Sub 2.40 would be a great time to knock over if you get it at Battersea.
Thanks!
Also doing Abingdon in October. My second ever marathon. Should be good
Awesome!

Good man, that’s great to hear!! What’s the half?
@@TheFODRunner loping around Goodwood race circuit! Think it's 4 laps but should be wide enough for passing (or people to get past me)

Good morning. Well done, Andy. First Like. Have a great day.
Have a great day!
Did you consider Chester marathon October 6th?
I did yes, but Abingdon is easier and I can sleep in my own bed, so logistically it works much better
Will we see coach Will for the marathon block?
Not for this one though… I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m keen to work with him again, so it’ll happen at some stage 🤞
