Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 the BEST drag strip Muscle Car?

- The Dodge Challenger is a muscle car in it's truest form. MOPAR has taken what they have learned from the drag strip and poured it into this special Scat Pack known as the 1320. Under the hood is a 6.4L V8 that is paired to either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic. This Challenger features special suspension taken from the Demon and tires that are sticky for the strip. On the inside you can have the passenger and rear seat deleted or add them back in. Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 the perfect 1/4 mile muscle car?

1320 owner here. The headlight air vents are sealed from the factory but can be opened. Mine has the lower airbox and snorkel tube from the Hellcat, and is open on the driver’s side like the Hellcats are. The hood pins are an option and not part of the 1320 package. The vented aluminum hood is standard on 392 Scat Pack cars. The 1320 package brings the lightweight wheels and street-legal Nexen Nfera SUR4G drag radial tires, the full suspension package from the Demon (same adaptive dampers, springs, sway bars), the Demon’s differential and 3.09 gears, the Demon’s heavy duty 41-spline axle half shafts, the Demon’s transmission brake, and a torque management upgrade to the engine software. The engine and transmission both are slightly factory tuned. It is underrated at 485 hp at the crank, it’s closer to 500. The infotainment system has the 8.4” UConnect screen but is obsolete, its software is identical to the 2015-2016 Scat Pack cars, and does not have SRT modes. It does have the Dodge Performance Super Track Pak from the 2015-16 cars, and two driving modes, Norm and Drag. The adaptive dampers and steering are three position, norm/sport/drag, and can be selected through the Super Track Pak screen. The ZF transmission is the 8HP70, not the Demon’s 8HP90. There is a button next to the Super Track Pack button on the center stack labeled “Drag,” where you can select Drag mode as you set up in the Super Track Pak with one touch, it is identical to the “Sport” button in the 2015-16 cars. My car is a 2019 year, one of 38 built in its color. It was special ordered from the factory in February 2019 and delivered in April 2019, and has the sunroof, adaptive cruise, automatic wipers, Plus Pack with full leather, and Harmon Kardon stereo with subwoofer, and still will pull 12 second flat quarter mile times and take a Hellcat in the first 60 feet until the ‘Cat’s power advantage kicks in. And the alcantara steering wheel will last longer than Raiti thinks, mine is still looking near new after 12,000 miles. In full drag mode off the transbrake, punching the gas will throw the front end straight up like a 1960s A/FX drag car! I got the package because it was the least expensive way to get the adaptive dampers, and at the time I didn’t know it was a dedicated drag package. Know that the Nexens work well in rain but are only 100 treadwear and won’t last long if you’re doing a lot of burnouts. Dodge refers to them as the “Angry Bee,” and I love mine. New owners need to be aware that it is a cast iron mofo to get suspension, rear axle, and transmission parts. Dealers have no clue how to get them, because they have to go through the Demon ordering system and have your car’s VIN to do it before Dodge will release the parts. You’ll have to tell the dealer what to do. Keep that in mind.
Thanks for sharing that great ownership experienece!
Just bought one yesterday, amazing almost scary car . Dream come true!
Im a charger fan but im really starting to like the challenger more
It really has the classic lines Xavier!
Maybe because of the classic lines
But the charger is really good and it's a 4 door sedan wich is more practical.
Challengers are growing on me too, and I own a 392 charger
Xavier Wrecks frr
Xavier Wrecks already switched
Sold my Camaro ss and bought a scatpack. Love it.
Congrats Ryan!
Me too, my SS 1LE for a Scatpack 6M
I like the room and visibility of the 1320, but my Camaro is a second faster at the strip. Can't see $46k to go slower.
Joe Marks so you run 11.2? The 1320 on 17s and good air run 11.3s
Nice.
I would be great if Dodge would just bump the 🐎 power up to 500hp with the 6.4L V-8
I think 550 HP would be perfect!
Raiti's Rides here here joe! I’ve got a 2019 Charger 392 with every option but man I wish it was 500+
I'm here wishing my 2018 civic si had at least 250 😪😂 475hp would be plenty for me.
Carlos Villalobos 485 hp is a ton of fun but reality is these LX platforms are super heavy so the 485 needs to bump to 550 to overcome. I’m on my way to a hopeful 500 whp with my 2019 392 by putting a cam, headers, ported heads, and ported intake manifold, then dyno tune. 💰 I feel then the hp to weight ratio will be more equal.
Will Jeff what shop is doing the work? And whats the price range?
God I love the challengers. Was getting my oil changed on my scatpack charger this morning.. and I just couldn't resist the intimidating scatpack challenger staring me down in the showroom!
The engine sounds more beautiful than mozart. :P
I totally agree!
Great review of a great package! There was one just like this one, minus the rear seat, sitting in the showroom when I picked up my 392 T/A. It was a gorgeous car. I wanted a 6 speed more than I wanted a 1320 Scat Pack. Too bad they’re only equipped with an automatic transmission. Your heavy as an elephant comment was hilarious.
what color is your 392 Ta?
@@chrisrandall2814 White.
@@GLHS592 i have a black one 6.4
@@chrisrandall2814 You are a better man than I. The black ones are the coolest looking T/As, but I have a black 1998 Ram SS/T and it has worn me out over the years keeping it clean.
@@GLHS592 i know the feeling of that lol
The old and new challengers are both one of the best generations ever made early 70s late 2000s all the way to 2020s
Love it. I want it!!!
Back in the day, everyone called the hemi an "elephant motor"
No they called the “426 Hemi” the elephant engine while other hemis were just called “Hemi”
love the review. love the car more and ordered 2022 1320 because of your review thx.
i appreciate you being so interactive with your viewers youre a great guy
Thanks man! You guys make the channel what it is!
The Challenger is a heavy car, but I loved the R/T that I had. Been looking at the new Scat Pack, now I need to look at the 1320 edition.
Don't just look at it. Go ahead and purchase one. Explain things to your wife later.
Can you review the Charger scat pack plus? I own a 2019 and love it
I actually have one coming!
Raiti's Rides do a review on the wide body scat pack
@@RaitisRides rly I can't wait I have one
Honestly the scat pack wide body is the best challenger you can buy. Enough power to still be wildly fun but at the same time drivable and not a burnout machine.
The challenger is actually so important to dodge that they are supposedly redesigning both, but plan on selling the challenger "classic" along side the new challenger and charger, which will be entirely different animals.
I totally agree with you James!
That's cool as hell
Too bad it wasn't to be, RIP Challenger
I like your definition of MOPAR. The first time it was explained to me was More Old Parts And Rust.
Great job on the review! Only have 2 things to correct. The headlight inlets are not functional and it is only available in A8 no M6 in this one! Drag button turns it into a totally different car! I have owned my Indigo Blue 1320 for 7 months and STILL watch every video on it! Yes, it is that AWESOME!!!
I was thinking of buying either 1320 or a Camaro ss. I was thinking indigo blue as well if I went for 1320. How is it doing so far?
I love it! I choose it over a Hellcat and have no regrets at all! Almost like getting 2 cars in one. Streetable Scat Pack and a whole nother monster when you hit the drag button. But keep in mind it is still a Scat Pack. Not gonna beat Hellcats with it, but it is very fun to drive.
@@SATrentman
Cool, now I wonder if I should save for a hellcat or this.. thanks for the reply and will keep in mind. I built one with deleted back seat and the cheaper seats and it came out to be 42k not including taxes and fee. Is really a good price.
No problem, if you go with the 1320. Shop around and look on the internet. I looked for a month or better and found mine for $40,000 rear seat delete, cheap seats, upraded radio. Thought about putting rear seat in, but nope gonna leave it as is.
My dream muscle car!! Amazing job Joe.
Dodge really has nailed it with the Challenger and Charger scat packs. Blow Ford and Chevy out of the water. My next car’s going to be a Charger because I need a few more doors for my children… but I do prefer the Challenger’s body style a little more.
I loved my old 6.4 but my new 6.2 makes me much happier! : )
Oh I bet!
Super glad to finally have a confirmation the 1320 edition is available for the 2020 model year. Saving for one right now. Just got a wagon and a couple sport bikes to sell first.
If i have one of these, definitely im not gonna go to race ,just gonna cruise and enjoy it.Thanks a lot for making this reviews so great and funny.🙂
Christian Garcia sounds good to me!
I love your videos, I also own a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT392 and it's a dream come true! Thanks Raiti's Rides! I'm a big fan!
Hi Joe! All love man keep the hustle. Car looks clean.
Thanks Trevor! This think is a street beast!
"Start/Stop"?!?! On a drag car? Well, first of all "Start/Stop" is garbage in anything. It absolutely wastes gas. But, on a Challenger RT?!?!?
That's horrible.
You are killing it. Keep it up.
Dodge....they're getting there.
There is just no substitute for a honkin' naturally aspirated American muscle V-8. I drove the Charger with the Hemi and I didn't even turn on radio. All I wanted to do was listen to that engine exhaust!
Love challengers and chargers. Enjoy these while we can as next gen will probably have twin turbo straight 6's. I think the v8's will only be on the top trims.
Bob Bob it’s going to be interest to see what happens.
They do have hemispherical combustion chambers still. Not as deep as the originals, but they are true HEMI’s.
Reminds me of the classic superbee it was meant to be a budget drag car
Just picked up my 1320 scat pack. With the drag edition 20 inch. With the 40 drag tires. If anyone has one if you could tell me what you think if you had it for while
Thanks for sharing your experience! Congrats on your amazing car!
@@RaitisRides well in 1981. My wife made me sell my 70 R R. So we could buy a home. And start my business. Well 40 years later she agreed to by this car. So for a man in my 60s I'm looking to have some fun.
Not a Mopar Guy , this 1320 edition definitely peeks My interest...
Gr8 job MOPAR !!!!!👍
This is the actual 1320 that I bought from that tampa dealer, I guess you made this video 2 days before I bought it... very cool!
This Challenger is awesome but a Challenger with a 6-speed manual is the ONLY way I would have my Challenger.
AGREED! #savethemanuals
People are scared that will lose to a auto but if you know how to drive you'll win some and lose some anyone who has a manual nowadays means business
Mr. TAMW Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m not really worried about winning or losing, as long as I’m having fun and feeling connected to the machine, that’s a win in my book.
Old or new muscle cars are cool any brand is cool as long its got muscle
I totally agree with you!
No, the Demon would be the perfect drag strip car for me.
Very cool car your reviewing.
Awesome review as always brother!😎
You have the very best reviews on you tube, barr none!
Please, If you find a 2018 Demon challenger in your travels for around sticker price or 5-10k over, depending on the condition & mileage, let me know brother.
Been looking for one to buy.
Black on black being my first choice.😎🇺🇸
Thank you sir!
I will try to find one for you!
@@RaitisRides
Thank you
If you sup up the internals and add a Twin Turbo kit or a super charger you basically have a budget Demon that will destroy everything in quarter mile drag or roll racing. I've even seen the Demons destroy it's competition in half mile racing. Those big Challengers move out
That is a very good point! Just make sure you beef up the whole drivetrain!
I know it's not the American muscle way, but man would a 4WD version be just the best.
Power Button Revelations AGREED
Great one as always bro, keep em coming.
Dodge definitely do hate that people are driving around with them yellow protector as a Style 😂 but great 👍 video
You are so very right!
My uncle has one and he keeps his on to protect the bottom from scratches but, he paints it black because it matches the bottom and the yellow looks ugly yeah I agree but I would leave it on but, I would paint it black and it's also not noticeable😁👍
beck Moral what a good idea lol!!!
Still 275s on the rear. Should have been 305s but I guess that's for the owner. That's a nice package bang for the buck for sure.
Seem like u had more fun in the Scat Pack Charger!
It is a blast!
Hate to correct you Joe but the trunk is bigger in the Challenger than the mustang. Also the exhaust tips are styled to look like a 1970 Challenger. Nice Review 🏁👍
Hopefully some little children weren't around when you revved it up 🔥
No, no orange. Wish it was louder - probably need to delete the mid muffler. The trunk is huge. You could put several dead bodies in there.
Love the challenges
I bought one !!!!!! 5k miles she a beauty
Holy crap I think I found my next car. With a manual of course. : )
I can see you driving this!
Cant get a 1320 in manual
I have this car. I have a 2017 6 speed manual challenger 5.7 liter hemi. And the heads on the hemi's are hemispherical. In the 1950's the plugs were on the top. Then in the 1970's they put the plugs on the side. But, today it does have Hemispherical heads, if it has a hemi in the car. Just saying
Never did mention the transbrake. That's how you get a low 60' time.
This is so true.
The only True Muscle Car in my opinion. The Ford Mustang is more like a Sports Car per say, I'm not saying that the Mustang & Camaro r not Muscle Cars but looks wise the Challenger has looked the same since 1970 🤯.
Thanks Jay!
@@RaitisRides No problem Joe
@@RaitisRides Hey Joe, what if the Original Dodge Charger looked the same nowadays like the Challenger?? 🤔.
@@JayPatel-tx1zc People would be confused.
@@RaitisRides I know right LOL
All of my dads cars in the 60s 70s overheated. It ducked.
Great video, thanks.
The 1320 isn’t available with the 6 speed standard. Only with the automatic.
I have a feeling that Joe is 100% Dodge guy. It has been officially confirmed.
Great Review Ratti as always!! Personally which is a funnier driving experience in your opinion. A N\A V8 or a SC V8? Just curious of the differences from your experience.
Me: Ima go buy one.
Dave Ramsey: Ooohhh baby what is you doing?
Suze Orman would be snappin' out. 😆
Wow!!! What a nice car Joe!!
Thanks Denny! I am so glad you liked this one.
This guy got bars
Correction, no 6 speed available with 1320. But trans brake included.
This is true! Thanks for the info.
Gota make both tonight?
Great job on this muscle
Thanks John! It was a blast!
Hey Joe, my cars getting fixed! Not sure if you remember what happened to it but have a good day Joe.
Yes I do remember Joshua! I am so happy to hear that!
Raiti's Rides thanks man. That’s what makes you a great youtuber
At 47 thousands $ before taxes and fees leather or alcantara seats are a must!!
Cmon dodge how hard would it have been to put 305’s in the rear...?
Hds818 but why? I put air under the tires on the stock 275’s upon launch
Because the tires and wheels would stick out from the body and not be street legal
@@garybishop4030 where the hell do you live that wheels sticking out the body is not street legal?
"Some blow pops, some totsi roll pops" lol
Order the 1320 with the least options. Less weight is better for drag times. Hood pins add weight.
….so do valvestem caps
@@jacksimerly5788
Been to the track with my 1320. With weight reduction, we did an 11.569 seconds at 117.5 mph.
If you want to look good, go fully loaded. If you want the better times, go with less options and weight reduction.
Hell Cat is nice but a lil bit over kill, I think the Scat Pack can take any other straight line car out there. plus plenty of room for Twinkies : P
It's coming
Oh yeah!
@@RaitisRides yea I heard from a RUclipsr that dodge has there cars tune down from the dealer the. Base 5.7 push 420 hp the 6.4 scat pack really pushing 520
I'm glad the paddles are smaller the big ones getting away
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Tom!
Hey joe love the channel I was wondering if you review used cars at all ?
Thanks for the awesome compliment! Yes I do sometimes. Anything in particular you are looking for?
Raiti's Rides Lexus ES 300h
I was wondering if you can review an Infiniti G37x. There’s other reviews on RUclips but no one goes as in depth as you
That's beautiful maybe one day I will get one of these bad boys.
Question- does anyone ever order this car without the backseat? It is an option that will save you a buck and the offer is pure crazy.
Dodge needs to change the styling up it’s all the same car same motor yes it may be tuned but at the end of the day srt and rt you the shaker , scat pack I mean they all look the same . I might just get the 14 392 hemi I love challenger but it needs a refresh
It will be interesting to see where they go with this!
Great review, man that car pushes my buttons! $48k, that's doable.
Michael Jones I totally agree with you!
Michael Jones I was out the door on my 1320 for $39K
I own a 2019 Scatpack 1320. Love it.
Thanks for sharing that Mike!
Mike Lee that’s a 2019
DEMON JR 1320 indeed it is
The Challenger 6.4 is the last real Muscle car
Even more than the Hellcat or the RedEye or the Demon because they run with sc wich is not pure engine block power.
AGREED! There is no replacement for displacement!
That's a fact!
Even though the combustion chambers are not perfect geometric hemispheres, the valves are in a cross flow configuration, unlike Ford or Chevy valve trains which are inline and are true wedge engines, so this is a modern type of Hemi in a modern Challenger. Also, did anyone notice the cockeyed left tail light? That shouldn't have gotten through quality control.
Thanks for that info and I didn't even notice that!
Smh dodge
It's a hideous design flaw that Dodge will be working on night and day till corrected.
I would love to see a video on a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT!!
Stay tuned! ;-)
@Jacob Tratnyek in the market for an SRT. I understand the price is similar and the power difference, but I would still want the SRT.
@@isneaky24 just bought an SRT Jeep last year! You won't regret it!
I think Corsa or Hooker makes a nice cat back with quad tips. Do you know if that 1320 model has a dual mode exhaust on it like the Hellcats.
