    The big question is: can people use the force in ways that might be self-serving without eventually being corrupted by the dark side? The head witch here literally puts a guy in a trace that turns his eyes black. That definitively seems like some bad guys stuff.

      Well we see the Jedi use the force in self-servicing ways all the time. Selfishness is not all evil, you need to be a minimum selfish to survive, and you need to survive to do good, like remembering to eat or drink is fundamentally selfish...but it's a question of balance, between selfishness and selflessness and understanding when to put other before yourself, and when you need to take care of yourself.
      If i could do telekinesis, believe me, i'd use it to grab the TV remote when it's out of arm's length... and don't you dare tell me that you wouldn't :P .... but that act of selfishness would balance out with all the good i could do for others with that power. It's like any other skill... and it's about balance.

      it looks trippy and scary to us but the reality was, he was just put into a trance and released afterward with no adverse affects, no pain, no manipulation, and overall; to our knowledge was not harmed in any way. For a mother acting to protect her children from being taken it was pretty tame. It was an expression of power to make the jedi leave, thats all, we cant just say "ooh black eyes = bad guy" we have to look at what actually happened

    • @unincognito3689

      Also, the nightsisters already use the dark side without being corrupted by it. That is literally part of their training and culture. Ventress tells this to Quinlan in Dark Disciple and tries to train him the same way. So yes its already possible, at least to some extent. You could argue the Sith lean further to the Dark Side than the Nightsisters and that is where the corruption comes from.

    Something that’s infuriated me about this show in general is the pacing; it’s been absolutely awful.
    Like, one thing Andor did well was it set up plot points and paid them off at the right time, but Acolyte is awful with it. Anytime they set up an issue, conflict or mystery it’s resolved too quickly and it means that most of the time I’m wondering where I’m supposed to feel tension. The main example was the whole twins reveal. When Ohsa was arrested for murdering a Jedi and acted adamant she didn’t do anything, I was confused and thought this was a plot point that would carry on throughout the whole series, but they then pulled the twin thing out the hat, had her scream out “I HAVE A TWIN SISTER AND SHES BEHIND ALL THE MURDERS” and then had Sol go “I INSTANTLY BELIEVE YOU AND AM NO LONGER TRYING TO ARREST YOU” and fixed that whole problem by episode two without letting any sort of tension build.
    The one thing that I was curious about and made me feel some sort of intrigue was the mystery about their past, and I thought they’d just drop little clues and hints at what happened while leaving the rest to your imagination so that the show, yknow, kept it a mystery and kept it interesting… then episode three came around, and told us EXACTLY what happened, completely killing most of the questions I had and just leaving me feeling a bit nothing-y.
    I don’t feel interested in the show because I don’t know what to feel interested in- every big conflict and piece of tension I was invested in has been solved within the space of three episodes and I’m kind of just watching to see if they make any more blunders like this as they carry on

    • @datNERO17
      @datNERO17 3 месяца назад +2

      "then episode three came around, and told us EXACTLY what happened, completely killing most of the questions I had and just leaving me feeling a bit nothing-y."
      What questions did you have? Because this ep didnt explain anything. We know nothing about the witches as a whole, who they are, where they came from, their objective etc, and we didnt see how they all just died and we have no idea of the jedi's involvement in this. All we got was an episode showcasing all the things we already knew by episode 2. This episode didnt answer anything except the intention behind Mae starting the fire was to kill her twin sister.
      Just stop with the stupid critical thinking until you have seen the whole show. This is like watching the first 5 episodes of Clone Wars or Rebels and basing your strong and negative opinion of the entire show on just those 5 episodes, not knowing how awesome they get after the introducing of the characters is done and we start to see them grow.
      Its stupid and detrimental for your and everyone else's viewing experience. Sick and tired of you self-proclaimed movie critics that judge an apples taste before even opening your god damn mouths.

    • @E_A_T_S
      @E_A_T_S 3 месяца назад +8

      @@datNERO17 the main question I had going into episode 3 was “what happened on Mae and Ohsa’s home world? What was this big incident that left their whole planet dead and the two of them split apart?”. Episode 3 was literally a flashback episode on exactly this. No we didn’t see the witches die and they might have another explanation to give us here, but surely it would’ve helped if they’d kept us guessing what happened when they were kids instead, so that they could build it up gradually and create tension.
      Oh! And forgive me for not liking what I’ve seen so far and being critical of it, if you don’t want to hear people’s criticisms of a show then going on RUclips reviews of it is probably not the best of ideas buddy

      I disagree tbh. The first few episodes of Andor were so boring that I stopped watching. Got back into it and ended up absolutely loving it, but I wouldn't praise the pacing.
      Pacing of Acolyte is fine for me, it's just a very mid story and production.

    • @datNERO17
      @datNERO17 3 месяца назад +1

      @@E_A_T_S I see, so the problem is that you just havent paid very much attention and you do not have any patience. The first we heard about what happened is that people burned to death, but we only see people lying on the ground clearly not burnt and showing no blood. This doesnt answer anything, because it isnt supposed to. This episode was one side of the story of a very traumatized child (Osha). Everyone knows the "there are two sides to every story", this was painfully obvious if you actually paid attention. The answers will come, they are definitely keeping us guessing (those of us who pay attention at least) so stop complaining about having no answers and be patient.
      Doesnt matter where i go. There are plenty of problems in this show, but i see a lot of criticism that is just completely and utterly invalid. You are doing the equivalent of judging a whole movie based on only its first 30 minutes, completely disregarding the rest of it. Thats just dumb man, and of course i get annoyed by dumb shit like that, only natural.

Those who laugh at the novelty of Luke Skywalker throwing his lightsaber over his shoulder and 2. Those who have existential crisis/tantrums because he (Star Wars) didn't act according to 'plan'. I am so sick this fabricated controversy constructed by the 'I hate the new Star Wars' industry. I actively tried to find something outlandish with this plot after hearing it sucked for a week and the best I can come up with is the room burned real quick, which 1. It's fucking space fantasy and 2. Maybe the planet has a higher oxygen content then Earth. I also can't help but recognize that this was a minority heavy episode and suddenly there's contrived controversy. Yes, it is the same Rashomon technique of showing events from different points of view. This was used in The Last Jedi, but of course it's not the first time Star Wars has drawn inspiration from Kurosawa films (it goes back to the very first movie, which drew from The Hidden Fortress).
      This episode of The Acolyte shows us the events from Osha's point of view - although I suspect her memories may have been skewed by Sol. I think that we'll next see Mae's point of view, and this will definitely have been distorted by the Sith Master (as was the case in TLJ). After that we'll see a less distorted view closer to the truth.

  • @jinzo637
    @jinzo637 3 месяца назад +60

    I honestly was irritated by Ohsa thinking it was her fault everything went to shit but no it was Mae. At first u would think Mae is the good twin wanting to stick to tradition n becoming a witch. Ohsa on the other had wanted a life of her own. Like most twins she doesn't want to always be tied to her twin so she find ways to be on her own. Mae on th3 other can't let go of the old ways cuz it's all she knows n is comfortable with afraid to venture out n explore the galaxy. Mae is already showing dark side traits.
    Fear. She is a afraid to leave home n never seeing her mother again. Fear of what's out there.
    Anger. She is angry at Ohsa for wanting to leave n by doing so would Separate them from their home. Something she is afraid of. N she takes it out on Ohsa.
    Hate. She hated Ohsa for feeling betrayed that her sister would betray her trust n not follow what their mother said. She hated that her sister would risk everything all cuz she wanted a life of her own.
    Suffering. Mae now suffers alone with no one to blame but herself. Who knows Mayne the fire wasn't her idea fully but she already had dark side tendency n probably already met with the dark master.
    Overall Ohsa wanted to explore the galaxy n forge her own path n not one that she felt was set for her at birth. Mae in the other hand can't let go of the past n that's what fuels her vengeance against the Jedi. She felt the Jedi are responsible for turning her sister to want to leave their home. When ok reality it was Ohsa choice. N I'm sure the mother was gonna let her n only her go but something happened maybe between her n her partner/lover. Mae over hears it n tried to take matter Into her own hands.
    Can't wait for the next ep. We might see what happened that night n find out who the dark master is.

    Like, in Clone Wars the Nightsisters literally brewed a fucking Force Potion to Force Curse Count Doku with their Force Vodoo powers from halfway across the galaxy.
    You can't tell me that that's closer to Jedi Style force powers than a group of witches following a philosophy that feels like an ever so slightly different take on the exact same shit that Obi Wan and Yoda were saying throughout the OG triology.
    Literally the first thing Obi Wan said about the force is “Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.”
    If anything the coven's philosophy feels more like a return to what the force was originally presented as in A New Hope, before it got more and more reduced to "fast reflexes, telekinesis, lightning, and sometimes a vision" as the series went on.

      So, nobody has a problem with a different view on the force, and nobody has a problem with witches having great power within the force like the TCW, the main problem is that these witches did something so drastic in the force that it basically rewrites everything we know about the force. The ability to create life was something that was coveted by both Plageuis and Palps, and both tried their entire lives but couldn't really achieve it. So for these witches to just know how to do it, and to create two of them mind you, undermines the importance of Anakin being brought about by the force itself. It also begs the question, if they somehow had the ability through the force, whether directly or indirectly, to create life, then why haven't they done this a million times and make many more of themselves? This whole thing creates a giant plot hole. Again, witches having great mystical power within the Star Wars universe is not the problem, the problem is overstepping the bounds in which their powers should reside. Also, it kind of goes against what Obi Wan was saying, because this is them directly manipulating the force, which a Jedi is not supposed to do, a Jedi is supposed to channel the force, rather than "use" it. (Which is weird in this episode because the mother first talks about not "wielding" the "thread", but then a few minutes she demonstrates her "wielding" the thread by force pushing her sisters, and then later in the show explaining how she created the twins, most likely through the force/thread since that's where she gains her powers.) So finally, no one is against the witches, or the sisterhood, or the fact they may be lesbian, but more so that they kind of have this insane, unexplained power that originates from an explanation of the force that doesn't hold water. Poor/lazy writing.

      I get your point, and it's interesting and developed, and that is appreciated. The point is we still don't know how they did create the twins, maybe we should wait to see really what's going on before we all light the torch?
      "So for these witches to just know how to do it, and to create two of them mind you"
      Well, if you can create one, it's not far fetched to think you can create two. There is a way longer way between 0 to 1, than between 1 to 2, right?
      ", undermines the importance of Anakin being brought about by the force itself"
      I don't really agree with that. An "immaculate conception" from the force itself is something way more powerful and meaningful than what seems to have been done here (again we have to wait to know a little bit more to judge). This point could be well transposed into the real life: it was a big deal when scientists manage to create the first clone (a goat if I remind correctly), but not even close to what will happen if someone is prooved to be born by "immaculate conception", from "nowhere".
      " So finally, no one is against the witches, or the sisterhood, or the fact they may be lesbian"
      let's be honest, that's definitely not true.

    A very moderated take. Balanced as all things should be. I personally didn't like the episode at all, and that is the same for the show so far. I will keep an open mind until the show comes to an end. It isn't really about the different interpretation of the force for me, it is more about the fact that this new take on the force isn't interesting at all. So far as I know creating force sensitive beings via the force is impossible. Anakin was created by the Force itself as a reaction to Darth Plagueis trying to create a force sensitive being. I doubt that a witch would be able to do it, yet a Sith Lord isn't. The way that this episode was filmed and the writing was kind of lackluster for me. Most certainly since it cost 180 million dollars.

    Both canon and legends have numerous force based organizations operating in many different interpretations of the force, and varying levels of proficiency. Over 100 listed on Wookieepedia.
    The importance of Anakin was not his birth. While definitely very rare was not solely based on being a 'virgin birth' but that Anakin was a Vergence in the force, he was a living force nexus. That's what made him so powerful and dangerous.
    A lot of the knee jerk reactions come from fans who aren't as deeply engrossed in all the existing lore and stories as others, so these concepts when introduced are seen as abrupt changes. Which is not the fault of the viewers, not every fan wants to or should need to know everything about Star Wars. It falls to the way these stories are told. Which unfortunately hasn't been brought into mainstream viewing in a way that informs the viewers properly. It's a difficult thing to bring in obscure lore to engage with fans who know of it, and fans who don't.

    There's a very easy way to understand the Force controversy: There is this mindset in parts of the star wars fandom that any alternative interpretation of the force or any attempt to demystify it or retcon in new elements to it is somehow sacrilegious.
    This is nothing new. From midi chlorians to the mortis gods, the lore behind the Force has always had stuff added to it. And arguably none of it has ever been all that well-received.

    I think the kids are some kind of Force Clones of the Mother. They don't share any traits with the Zabrak. There's no other children. The ceremony makes it clear that they're purpose is to lead the Coven when the Mother dies. The Zabrak implies that the twins creation was through something taboo/dark. The Coven had to go into hiding. What if that's because they were experimenting with Dark Side Life Manipulation/ Force Alchemy?

      I have a guess theory that Koril thinks Aniseya created the twins purely by the Force (or as they'd call it the Thread), but she actually hired Kaminoans at a great price to create clone embryos (which she implanted into Koril using Force telekinesis, IVF style).
      It's just that the whole thing is plainly based on IVF, which a lot of lesbian couples use to have children. Typically one partner carries the pregnancy while the other provides the eggs. It's a very expensive procedure, so most can only afford to try it once. Because of this, they usually implant multiple embryos and if you're lucky one or two of them will survive.
      Note that this show takes place long before The Empire wiped out Kamino - destroying generations of cloning knowledge in the process.

    I'm at a disadvantage as I'm not keen on lore much beyond movies and live action series but...
    1. My impression from RoS was that Palpatine revealed Anakin was not 'conceived by the force'. He was created as a result of the methods he and his master discovered.
    2. Anakin was not special because he had no father. Him lacking a father was, if anything, bait because it played into the prophecies the Jedi had. (this is strongly tapping the vibe from Dune, esp. the novel)
    3. 'Discovered' in #1 has two interpretations. They could have discovered it from scratch, the way Einstein did relativity. In that this is potentially lore breaking. Or they could have discovered it from older knowledge, knowledge passed down in sects that are not Sith or Jedi (such as witches). This implies this ultimately could have been the source of the knowledge used to create Anakin in #1.
    4. #2, though, implies another risk to canon. The Jedi in this series cannot learn that the Sith exist or that 'force conception' is possible. If they do then there's a canon problem with TPM as the appearance of a small boy who seems forced conceived just at the moment the Sith reveal themselves again would cause massive problems with accepting Anakin as anything but a plant by the Sith.

I'm also assuming that the unknown Sith killed the not Nightsisters to drive a schism between the 2, so 1 could be trained by him, while the other could go to the Jedi and probably cause issues there. It fits in with the basic canon of the Sith, and damaging the jedi in any way is a win for them.
    Plus, and I may be wrong about this, but I think this episode may be the start of the Jedi taking in padawans as infants, and not kids; we've seen what happens when the Jedi remember their families.

    Actually I find this episody pretty interesting, precisely because you see the different ideologies about the same thing (the force) from the point of view of a child, and I'm pretty sure that will be an episode of the same... but from an adult point of view too, and learn what really happened there.
    But yes, not much great acting from the "extras" in this episode.

    This guy is the Daniel Green of the starwars community. Straw man’s peoples complaint, tries to cope about it not being that bad but at the end acknowledging some bad parts of it usually superficial stuff. It’s just pandering to everyone which is fine if he didn’t aggressively misrepresented the real arguments against the plot

      I literally have no problem with this episode and makes me even more convinced that there are only two types of Star Wars fans, 1. Wouldn't be the first time Star Wars hated on Star Wars project because non-white people played a big part with it. I love Star Wars but hate Star Wars fans. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH BREAKING THE BACK OF STAR WARS LORE. Embrace change you troglodytes.

    Why are most criticisms of this show that I have seen so far about fire in space, Jedi not being stab-proof and minorities (for some reason) or just people saying "it's dumb" without elaborating?
    Especially when there are actual bigger and dumber issues to point out:
    -Like why would Mae use a poison specifically from her homeworld and then also leave the vial behind for the Jedi to discover other than for the reason that the plot has to happen?
    -Or why did Torbin, despite apparently expecting Mae to arrive, wait until the second night (other than for the plot to happen because she can't leave until the Jedi and Osha arrive)?
    -Or why would a prison transport only have droid guards that can be hacked?
    -Or why would they give whatever that creature was on the one prisoner's face to him for being too dangerous but not the former Jedi suspected of murder?
    -Or why does Mae walk around everywhere in the same outfit instead of a disguise despite knowing there are living witnesses who can easily recognize her since she is pretty distinct looking (other than to maybe frame her sister but apparently she didn't even know she was still alive)?
    But no, I guess it's bad because fire in space (which is dumb, yes, but not the biggest issue), a Jedi got killed with a knife (the way it happens is dumb, sure, but the Jedi are not stab-proof afaik like I'm pretty sure penetrating their heart with a sharp metal object will still kill them) and minorities (grow the fuck up, please).

      X wings and TIE fighters have flown like fighter aircraft in the vacuum of space since A New Hope so I don’t know why everyone cares about the adherence to physical laws now all of a sudden. It’s a space opera, not hard science fiction, it is allowed to break some rules for dramatic effect.

    One thing I wanna mention which I feel is not being discussed, there is no way Mae killed all the witches. The scene around the 9:05 minute mark seems to me like something else is going on at the witch coven.
    To me it seemed like maybe the reactor might be sabotaged, it does blow up later in the episode. And you can't convince me some ten year old did that.
    I wouldn't be surprised if they did another flashback from a different perspective. Maybe the Jedi actually killed the witches, that would explain Master Torbin's guilt when he drank the poison. And also Maes's anger towards the Jedi who were there that night.
    Also, another theory I have is that maybe the witches did create the twins without a “father” but not in the same miraculous birth Anakin was made. Like Snoke in the new trilogy, maybe the twins were made in some lab and then put inside the witch to grow like normal. If true this would explain why the Jedi would kill a whole coven of witches, and blow up their home to destroy the evidence. They are making force-sensitive children unnaturally and I could see how this would anger the Jedi.
    If I am correct this doesn't really break Star Wars lore as far as I know.
    The show is mid but not as bad as everyone is suggesting. I would hold out complete judgment on it until all episodes are released.

      1. The 1st thing is not even mentioned in the movies, aside from the spiel about Plagious in RoTS. Anakin's birth remained mostly a mystery in the prequels.
      2. If papls and his master can't do it, and as we know they are a result of a rather large"family tree" of sith lords, then these witches should not be able to do it either. This is a random force cult, not rule of 2 doctrine descendants. It just paints the sith as incompetent twats.
      3. It trivialises anakin's story and origin because any feckin' force cult can do it now. Any force cult could produce a sudo chosen one.
      4. The rest of the episode is also a dumpster fire. Burning stone, witches legit deciding not to run away and all keeling over dead, dead all in one spot, making further mockery of the Jedi... what else do you need to see this atrocity for what it is? 20% on RT is not enough?

    The real problem is that the Witches were able to create a twin force user equivalent to Anakin the "Chosen One" by just plucking and manipulating the so-called Tread, their version of the Force.
    Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis were so dumb to even realize this technique since they mastered the force to a transcendental degree, yet they never realized this simple trick.
    they literally could have created billions of Anakin Level Clones in 1 go by just plucking some treads and manipulating it to create a physical embodiment of the force, this series is very amusing and interesting for a show that was based on Star Wars with a story that was not Star Wars. Ohh BTW even though Star Wars was not a Hard Sci-Fi story but a Fantasy and a Sci-Fi genre, the scene where they were putting out a fire in Space like any normal fire in an atmospheric room blew my mind, 'cause it's shouting this is not really Star Wars but Star Wars Parody.

    • @ScriabinOTBeach
      @ScriabinOTBeach 3 месяца назад +1

      Like another comment mentioned though, the twins birth is different than Anakins and doesn't really take away from him being the chosen one. But I think considering the time period, the possibility that the force can be manipulated to that point is something Plageuis would then come across perhaps.
      As far as the fires in space go, I think George Lucas himself was basically like "yeah obviously that doesn't work in real life, but the 'space' in starwars is more like an Ether". Basically just movie magic, part of the suspension of disbelief. If you're going to get in a tussle about fires in space, I hate to tell you that people can't make lightning come out of there hands.

      @Mmmm-tx6qc sorry but we're going to have to agree to disagree. It doesn't matter what purpose they're born for. It should be the Force's will alone, not someone manipulating the Force to do so. Anakin should be unique in that sense imo
