I had a 151 booster bundle I meant to hold onto but ended up ripping it and having nothing in it. Brutal!
Ahhh that’s rude, wishing you the best of pack luck on the next ones!
Bought a kids collection from a parent when i was just getting back into the hobby after 20 ish years. It was only 80$ but 99% of the cards were fake
Ahhhh that’s rude. Not the best way of returning back to the hobby. Good karma will come 😀🙏🏻
@@thepokemonks I don’t think it was intentional on the sellers part, I just think they took the cheapest route to get their kid cards and didn’t know the difference. Re introduction to the hobby has been good aside from that. Still kicking myself for getting rid of my childhood cards in my teens. Great video btw :)
Worst purchase i ever did was $40 worth of S&V base lol
Haha don’t worry, i once paid $170 for a SV BB at release
My worst buy was the alakazam ex box and poster collection box from 151. 7 packs, 0 pulls :')
That’s rude, pull rates from 151 are savage. Way lower now compared to release packs
My worst pokemon buy was when I got back into the hobby in the pandemic and bought a bunch of Vivid Voltage sleeved boosters at MSRP. Back when I bought anything at MSRP tbh
Hopefully - for ourselves and for the hobby - we never see something like that period again haha
First video I got recommended from you. Very informative👍
I'm very new to Pokémon card collecting. First purchase was an 151 ETB some weeks ago and "worst" as of yet were a couple loose Lost Origin packs in a department store. Still, I was happy with what I got so not really a waste.
Thanks a lot 🙏🏻 welcome to the channel! 151 etb is an enjoyable product to start in the hobby! IF i buy loose packs, i always go to my local store, but never buying loose packs on the secondary market online :)
I'm new to this world: I bought my first ETB in December: Zenith Regal. I got hooked and started buying the AR cards I liked and some SAR. I only have 3 SEALED products: Pandea Evolved and Paradox Rift booster box and Charizard UPC for $105, although I understand that it is not very popular and is overprinted but as a starting collection piece it is truly spectacular (at least aesthetically). I don't consider it a mistake at this price. I love this box. And inside have fantastic packs.
My worst purchase: Zenit Regale Unown V & Lugia V Special Collection. No more collections.
Your channel was a pleasant discovery.
Compliments
Thanks a lot for your kinds words! About your sealed products: paldea evolved bb and that UPC are amazing. I know this UPC is overprinted right now, but 16 packs of the best sets from sword and shield and 3 goodlooking promos from the most popular pokemon ever, people will hunt for these boxes in 5-10 years. Good choice!
Amazing videos!
Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
more great advice! im trying to complete a paldea evolved and S& V base set with my son but ill wait a bit longer before buying singles.....
Hi Rohan, amazing to hear you are in the hobby as true collectors with your son! I think for SV base and Paldea Evolved, it’s actually a great time for picking up singles right now. Especially SV base prices are quite low! 🙂
@@thepokemonks thanks for the tip! wasn’t sure if i should start getting the more rare ones but as you said the prices im seeing are not bad.
yes i got into the hobby due to my son and now hooked myself !
Amazing you are sharing this with your son, starting this hobby during this era is pretty good! Scarlet and Violet is not the most hyped era, but there are actually really beautiful and affordable sets in this era! :)
I'm still very new to investing and collecting. But at the beginning I bought individual boosters on eBay. Unfortunately, these were weighed up and I didn't get any hits. This was my worst purchase ever but I won't make this mistake again. Unfortunately I didn't know any better. 😟
We all made some mistakes when it comes to buying pokemon products, good you learned from it! Sometimes, i just go to my local gamestore, buying a little bit more for my products than i would pay on the internet, but knowing that you’re opening up a valid product is worth a lot to me 🙏🏻
@@thepokemonks That's so true. I would like to start with that too. I live in Germany, Berlin. There are also small shops here that occasionally organize tournaments and things like that. I would like to support that more.
@rocketruepeljonny 100%, also getting a bit more into the TCG, trying to enjoy this hobby as much as possible!
This is some great advice tbh
Thanks a lot, i appreciate this 🙏🏻
my worst purchase ever was whatnot mystery bag shoes where the odds seem so good but i always pick the wrong bags 😂 thanks for the content!
No problem at all! Mystery bags on livestream are really a thing atm, you can be lucky but most of the time people ending up with rebel clash booster packs, psa 9 graded modern cards or a bidoof graded in a psa 10 😬
Keep it going, like your style of content 😁👍🏼
Appreciate this, thanks a lot 🙏🏻
I bought detective Pikachu boxes whiteout looking at the art after that i regret the purches because i really did not like the art. Also no ultra rares i did not know it 😢
My worst purchase was probably the shiny Charizard V from Champions Path. Bought it at release and sent it for grading but it took nearly a year to come back. It got a 10 but had already dropped to less than the price I paid for raw on the market. Now it has tanked even further. Thankfully I sold it as soon as it came back for just a small loss.
Hi Josh, a year waiting time to grade is absolutely crazy. It was during the lockdown I guess. Same story for me, i’m keeping myself away from early grading because i don’t live in US and waiting time for graded cards to come back is 3 months. It’s better to pay a higher price for chase cards after prices settled down than taking big losses at release. Glad you sold it for a fair price!
@@thepokemonks yes it was when there was a crazy backlog at PSA, I think it was 11 months waiting 🤦 I paid the price for FOMO haha. And yes same for me not being in the US it complicates things a little with grading. Better to be patient as the quick turnaround won't happen unless you pay a crazy amount for it.
Yes 100%, imaging paying big money for fast grading and getting a psa 9 back haha
The best set❤ but is 24 on the New boxes because the first print was 23? And on the cards too?i dont know. I love All about 151
Good question, don’t know about the numbering on the boxes! Would think it stays 23 because it normally focuses on the year of set release
My worst purchase was a couple of graded cards. It was a spontaneous online purchase and instead of the Beckett, I got some similar looking slabs from a company I'd never heard before.
Oh got it, thanks also one of my mistakes when i started buying graded cards. 1. I though i could buy every card i like in a 10 2. I had no clue which grading company i was buying from haha
Nice content, been watching for a while now.
Where are you from?
Thanks a lot 🙏🏻 based in Belgium!
@@thepokemonks nice!! Do you also trade on Card Market? I am from the Netherlands :)
Finally someone with good content in my area, probs!
Ahaa nice to meet someone nearby! Currently not on cardmarket, trying to attend more conventions and trade in real life! Also Trying to create a small community over here in Europe with this channel :)
I bought a Burning Shadows ETB just to open it and 1. realise every single card looked like it had been chewed on and 2. not get a single pull
That’s rude, those etb’s sealed are actually worth a decent amount of money.
I graded some cards in psa , no one was above a 8 😢 had let them raw same effect 😅
Ahhh feel ya, especially if those are modern cards. I’m actually sending no cards to grade if it isn’t a clear 10!
The worst buy for me was on Pokemon GO. I bought several items and then noticed a new box that had all the items I just bought and more but for a better price. From Pokemon TCG I havent had a bad buy thankfully.
Probably my recent purchase of Silver tempest haha
Didn’t pull anything good?
@@thepokemonks I will answer when it arrives😂
Awesome advise. Love your content. Keep up the good work. Always look forward to you're videos
Appreciate this, thanks!! 🙏🏻
Worst purchase was a galar powers mini tin that I didn't realize was open and the evolving skies stolen out of it.
Ahhh good karma will hit you for that 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
i have the magikarp in psa10 ...should i sell it now while its hot..or do you think it will increase more?
Hi Jenna, amazing to hear you have a Magikarp PSA 10! I think this is an amazing card to be a part of your collection. I can’t forecast what prices and paldea evolved will do in the future, but it looks like this card is already at a decent price. Personally i would keep the card as a collector, but if you would want to make some profit, you could always sell it :)
@@thepokemonks thanks
You’re welcome!
Worst purcshases for me were few big bulky collection boxes. 😅😊
Haha yes, too much product choice so you do have to choose smart
What site did you use to see price evolution?
Hi Ken, the site used is tcgplayer!
Worst purchase was ETB from scarlet and violet. I got 2 hits worh 2 dollars in total.
That’s rude, SV base pretty cheap, actually a good moment right now to buy singles you want or complete the set!
@@thepokemonks Yes, but for me it was a sad moment. from 9 packs 2 hits, not a single full art...I got scammed :D
Got it… pull rates from 151 these days are also rude. Stopped last month opening packs after getting 1 jynx out of 2 full booster bundles 😂
@@thepokemonks at least I know it's not just me🤣
@thepokemonks also brother if u need help with youtube stuff let me know
Bought a raw card for the same price of the PSA 10 version in another store nearby hahaha but it's okay cause I'm grading it anyways
Haha let’s say it will be one of those cards with a cool backstory 😬
Pokemon center exclusive etb, booster boxes, ultra premium collections and Japanese specialty products. Thats all i buy 🙌🏻
That’s a rock solid simple strategy!
A pokeball tin which ended up being pokemon go packs…
Hahaha okay get it (i actually like some pogo cards shh) but i can imagine if you’re expecting some sword and shield alt art packs, it’s not the best surprise 😂
Never had any bad purchases since I buy what I like. But I have sold plenty of things at the wrong time aka before the covid spike
I understand, that spike was exceptional. Great to hear you’re in the hobby to enjoy, as it should be! Grateful that today’s sets are more affordable to step in as a collector and investor.
I bought off eBay when I started getting into the hobbie.. biggest regret as they were fakes. Will only trust local stores now
Lessons learned… good karma on the way :))
Mystery pack of ANYTHING is never worth it as an investment as it is no different to going to a casino and pulling a slot machine arm. Its not an investment, its hoping to get lucky with 0 knowledge. Anyone selling mystery packs/boxes/whatever is selling at a price higher then the price they paid to put in.
An easy way for them to make a lot of money in a short period of time!
yup, but people still buy it so i’d say buying sealed product is still an investment
Someone please timestamp when he actually blinks please.
Lol
I think my worse pokemon purchase was a kid not knowing the difference between booster and decks. I bought a D&P leafeon deck thinking it would be full of boosters but turns out it was almost only cards I didn't care about as a kid
Thankfully it had the leafeon which was cool but not enough since all my kids savings went on it
Thankfully I now still own the card in what should be a mint PSA 0.00001 rating (only went once in the washing machine)
Ahaha what a story, rude money loss but what great story to take with u in the hobby. Your mint psa could join all of my other childhood cards, “heavy played” is an understatement haha
Worst Purchase? Buying a case of Dakness Ablaze ETBs when they did the huge reprint too soon.
Ahhh, still holding on to the case? Will eventually go up in value in the long term
@@thepokemonks yes but, along with buying a lot of Shining Fates, I’m down the most and they take a lot of space.
Storing collections and investments one of the main problems of this hobby haha
Sleeved booster packs are just as easy to tamper with than regular packs
It gives me more safety imo when buying sleeved booster packs at well known retail stores. Yes, if you buy this on the secondary market from individual resellers, there’s always a chance that you end up with someone who’s in the hobby to scam, but well known retail stores did always good to me in my experience.
Worst buy would be a fossil booster which I opened and turned out to be light instead of heavy 😂
Ohh feel ya, i’m trying to only hop on vintage packs if it’s from a live box break made by a well known retail store.
Worst purchase I would say are the mystery blisters.
Ahh, “mystery” items are bleh
My worst purchase was darkness ablaze displays
Ahhh that set had a hard time. Did you keep them sealed?
@@thepokemonks yeah sure. It ist still sealed..
resealed and weighted packs. Never buying single packs again.
Ahhhh feel ya, also not interested anymore in loose packs
Worst purchase: anything to do with Pokémon Go. Thought the popularity of the mobile game would help 😢
I understand. However, I’m actually completing this set for a cheap price as a collector because i do like some cards. I’m not gonna say things will def turn for pogo on the long term, but maybe this could become a remarkable set when pogo stays in the game for many years. Anyway, feel your pain… 😑
it doesnt matter its only 60 dollars its for the fun
Nen Belg? 😁
Present! 🇧🇪
